Gallery With Externally Referenced Images?
Jun 23, 2009I am wondering if someone knows how to create a picture gallery where the images are online (web hosting folder). I need a tutorial to add the script to my existing swf.

I have a flash site with 10 different tabs/sections with a stage size of 1200 x 1372. The final tab of the site contains a photo gallery, which I would like to have a different stage size and just fit the browser screen as it loads an external SWF which auto fits to the screen. At the moment, it auto fits the stage size meaning the bottom half of the photos don't show. How I can just alter the last page?
View 1 Repliesi couldn't find a tutorial on this matter so i sorta started making my own hypothesis... what i'm trying to do is: have a gallery of images automatically scrolling horizontally while having the set of images loop. like at[URL]..
here are a couple of my theories and questions for AS commands to have this work:
1) display a range of pixels of an image at certain positions, i.e. if gallery is scrolling to the left, leftmost image when its parts are disappearing out of the viewing area, they become visible at the right.
2) have two instances of each image and when an image is disappearing on left, the second instance of that image comes visible on the right. this I imagine would take up more HD space.
i guess what i was wondering more about is how jager did their gallery where there's only enough images are in a set to be viewed in the viewing area.
I was wondering if there was a way in Flash to preview externally loaded images in Flash while still working.I am loading images externally to keep the file size down on a piece of elearning but now I'm afraid maintenance will be a nightmare since you don't actually see the screens until you publish. I have interactions on the screens so I need to see them for their placement on screen.
View 5 RepliesI know how to build a simple slideshow. The particular slideshow that I'm working on has 50 images, and with all those images in the library, it makes the file 23MG and takes forever to load.Should I load the images externally? I know how to do that when using a thumbnail, or button, but how would I do that so that it loads in as a slideshow?
View 1 RepliesIn the following application images are attaching from library as bitmap. But i want to load it externally.Actually what I am trying to do is that i want to divide an image in to several pieces and giving a disolve effect for transition. I got a code in which images are loading from the library as bitmap object. I changed it and loaded externally using bitmap, but i cant divide images in to small pieces. I think its due to the problem of loading as bitmap.i just want to modify the following code to load image externally.

In Flash, I can go into the properties of an image in the library and check 'allow smoothing' to enable resampling when the image is scaled or rotated.
How can I achieve the same effect for images loaded dynamically by the SWF from an external URL?
I've been looking into how to crossfade externally loaded .jpgs.So far everything I have found deals with slideshows and seems more complicated than what I need.I have created a new Loader that will load a .jpg when the thumbnail of the corresponding image is clicked.I am trying to get the currently loaded image to crossfade upon load completion of the new image being loaded.I'm thinking I can define a variable that is the current image in the loader and then on completion of loading of the new image run a function that fades out the current image and fades in the new image simultaneously.I am having problems trying to identify the currently loaded image of the loader into a variable.
View 2 RepliesI have successfully gotten my images to load externally and randomly into 4 different boxes on my stage. My problem now is with the code I'm using, you HAVE to specify how many images there are in the actionscript. My goal is to allow for future updates to be done outside of flash and all we'd have to do is add or remove images in the external image folder. Here's the code I'm using:

I have the jist of how to load external images into as3. One thing that I do not understand is how to pull all the images needed and store them so that when you want to view a specific image it is not loading the image again.
I need help on how to pull about 10 images externally and store them in to movieclips or something so that when I roll over a button to display this image it will just call the movieclip and display the movie clip with a preloaded image already. I am also doing this dynamically.
I'm creating an image scroller in AS2 that pulls images into Flash from an external folder, as determined by an XML file. The program use a MovieClipLoader to load the external images into series of empty, and temporarily invisible, movie clips that are created inside a for loop. Once the attached listener determines that the clips are all loaded, their visibility is turned on and they begin scrolling. Everything had been going fine, until I tried to add functionality to each of the four images that had been loaded. All I want to do is generate a trace statement that says "success" when I mouse over each of the four external images in the scroller. I can use that as a springboard to continue working...
Here is the problem: "Success" IS traced out upon rollover, but only once - when you roll over the last image that was pulled in from the RSS feed and into the for loop. It does not apply to any of the other images. It seems like the functionality on the other images is created but them somehow instantly destroyed or overwritten as the for loop continues to run and the MovieClipListener updates itself. But I am not sure. If this were simply a series of movie clips or images being pulled in from the Flash library, I wouldn't have this problem. However, the external images and the MovieClipLoader are confusing things.
//Start For Loop Pulling from XML File {
//create movie clip that will hold next image pulled in from XML file var cImageHolder:MovieClip = scrollerBase.createEmptyMovieClip
("imageHolder" + i + whichRow, scrollerBase.getNextHighestDepth());
var mcLoader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();

I have a flash piece that just chages the image displayed on the screen. The images are stored extrenally so I can easily change them out from time to time. Is it possible to navigate to a web page if you click on an image? If so, how is that coded or can you direct me to where I can find out how to do this?
View 3 RepliesTrying to load images dynamically from library NOT externally since i want these images to be loaded when the site is launched. Basically i have several buttons, each button returns an event that throws a specific image name to grab. Here is the function;
function sendDisplayData(e:MouseEvent){
display_mc.displayName.text = e.currentTarget.parent.menuItemName.text; //name of image eg. "myImageName" in the library;
//create the image object
[code]....
So how can i make this function dynamic by using a String and then grabbing the image related to that string from the library.
I've created an empty movieclip (imgHolder) dynamically on my stage and through XML I've loaded a picture into this movieclip which works fine. However, if I click on the picture, nothing happens.
This is what I scripted so far...
Code:
xmlData = new XML();
xmlData.ignoreWhite = true;
xmlData.onLoad = function(loaded) {

I'm still an amateur at flash (more precisely, actionscript), how to do a simple gallery with static thumbnails which, when clicked, dynamically load an image into an empty movie clip, fading in and out (using actionscript)? By that I mean, click on a thumbnail, main image fades in, click on another thumbnail, loaded image fades out, image of clicked thumbnail fades in. Is it possible? I have successfully achieved thumbnails that load an image externally using both XML and using the ordinary loadMovie function, opting in the end for the loadMovie function and modifying AnaS' [URL] code (some of his comments are still in there). The reasons being that I'm not particularly concerned if I can't use XML for this, but I do want the images to load externally to save space.
I figure that the thumbnails are small enough in file size for me to afford to put them in, but just in case anyone think that XML is better for the job, I'm also including my XML file. On top of AnaS' code, I have added an if-else statement (lines 13-21) but, as I have said before, I'm an amateur, so I can get my head around the 'if' part of the statement, but haven't figured out the 'else' section (namely, the fade out). From what I have seen (I've been looking for the solution for a long time), most people just settle for fading the image either in or out, but rarely both. If there IS a gallery with both fades, it is usually done professionally and the code is either unavailable or goes over my head.
How to click on a thumbnail and load and unload the image using in and out fades. I have seen something which is almost what I need (both fade in and fade out are present) in the form of Kirupa's XML gallery, but I wanted to make mine just the bare essentials and really simple (i.e., no carousel/sliding effects). I just noticed that there is no tutorial for something like this. Kirupa has two very, very good tutorials (the XML portfolio, which is very simple, and the XML gallery with the slide, which is quite advanced) but not an 'in-between' one, such as the one I'm trying to create. [URL]. I have an empty movie clip ('loader') and three thumbnails ('thumb1', 'thumb2' and 'thumb3') on the stage.
My code:
this.onEnterFrame=function() {
if (loader._alpha <100) {
loader._alpha += 5;
} /*else {
if (loader._alpha > 0) {
loader._alpha -= 5;

i've got this header in a website that's got images fading in and out of each other. btu now i want them to be loaded externally and randomly. but still fading in and out of each other.i did foudn a post that loads the images externally from a folder and loads any image that's in that folder, but it doesnt work in my version of Flash 8.0 Pro.Does anyone know any good script or short tuto (since time is short) that's makes the movie behave like i want it to?
View 5 RepliesI'm current trying to create a slideshow with images loaded externally, and then crossfading between one another.I've achieved how to load the images one after another, but however I'm having problems with achieving a crossfade.Do I need to have 2 seperate image loaders? Because I do not want to have the first image fade out, showing the background for even a minute of a second before the second one fades in.
View 2 RepliesI have a few questions... All of which have to do with this website: [URL] 1) First off, is there any way to pre-load externally loaded .jpg's so that there is no time delay between each background image? (You can see what I mean by clicking the "-" and "+" buttons on the bottom left corner. Here is the code that I'm using for the background images/buttons:

How can an instance name defined in the CS3 envionrment/stage be referenced successfully in AS3? My attempts seem to point at "just assuming its available in AS3" is not the case.
View 2 RepliesMain requirements for that gallery are:- must be updated via xml file- must be auto resize- thumbnails must be floating like in example- also must have preloaderhat's allIt is my first serious project with flash and it will be good to get any tips how to start doing all of that.Especially I am interested how it is possible to make such floating thumbnails which are also preloading.
View 2 RepliesWhat i need is to be able to pull images from a folder, and just be able to dump images into a folder and not have to keep updating an xml or fla file.
View 1 Repliesbasically my program has this part in it where it emulates this menu system that's on a piece of hardware. So in my code I just have a bunch of objects in a hierarchy to represent the menu. Each object constructor has references to other screens. When these buttons are pressed, they go to one of the screens referenced in the constructor.

I'm not entirely sure that I've even asked the question correctly in the title but hopefully) this description will make it a little more clear.
Code:
private var mySpriteA:Sprite;
private var mySpriteB:Sprite;

what i'm looking for is to create a gallery of images. there are 12 images in total with 3 showing. I want to add a forwards/next button that will cause the gallery of images to scroll across, with a smooth action, when the cursor hovers over the fowards button. I don't want the next images to show 1 by 1 but the gallery to gradually scroll arcoss(like all of the images are on one long reel being pulled from the left)
View 2 RepliesI created a flash image gallery for my site but the images look pixelated. I really don't like the way they look. Im fairly new to web design and very new to flash.
View 3 RepliesI am putting together a gallery that will show about 60 images. basic fade-in transitions between the images. I need to animate the company logo (very basic) and show some text below each image), becasue of this I dont know if any off the shelf xml based gallery will work? As usually you just define the image name/path and run the swf. This is for a presentation and not web so maybe not possible to be Xml based. Is there anything that is out there that could work for this and if not i suppose I am doing everything in flash but fear this as thimeline will be so long and a bit of a nightmare to do, if I have to do this in flash, I would have each image occupy about 20 frames 1-9 it will fade in, frame 10- a 10 sec pause, and frame 11-20 a fade out, that will still give me a timeline of 1200 approx.
View 1 Replies[URL].. The images on both the thumbs and the final seem jagged.
View 6 RepliesThere is a site with an image gallery that uses Adobe Flash.Is there a way I could capture the images? ( Apart from print screen)Softwares like Orbit do well with .flv videos, but don't work with images.Is there something that will help me getting a direct path to the images?
View 3 RepliesIs there any ready built images gallery as shown in this link? [URL]. If I were to build it by retrieve from database contains links to images and display on each containers, would TileList be useful as I'm will be using it for displaying Classifieds images.
