ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading Background Images (Externally Loaded) & Timer

Aug 1, 2011

I have a few questions... All of which have to do with this website: [URL] 1) First off, is there any way to pre-load externally loaded .jpg's so that there is no time delay between each background image? (You can see what I mean by clicking the "-" and "+" buttons on the bottom left corner. Here is the code that I'm using for the background images/buttons:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Stop A Timer In An Externally Loaded Swf?

Jan 21, 2009

I have a project in which the main swf loads another into it. The swf that gets loaded has an xml driven slideshow that runs on a timer. To view what the timer was doing in the output I traced the name of each photo as the timer fired. When I unload the swf I've noticed that though it appears to be gone from the stage the timer continues to fire and the images are listed in the output. I know that I can stop a timer by using

ActionScript Code:
photoTimer.stop();
but I can't figure out how to stop the timer in an externally loaded swf. I'm using this code to remove the swf

ActionScript Code: this.mc_content_box.mc_placeholder.removeChild(contentLoader); I'm worried that the timer may be loading the photos in the background somehow and increasing the workload.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Turning On/off Timer In Externally Loaded SWF From Main SWF

Mar 28, 2010

I want to know if its possible and if so how, to stop the timer in an externally loaded swf from the main swf that's its loaded into.

Just to give a quick basic rundown of the set-up. There is the main swf which via a class called Img loads smaller swfs:

PHP Code:

package {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.display.Bitmap;

[Code].....

The _scr bit is a string which gets passed in that comes from an XML file with the source of the external SWF to load. In the SWF there are some actions that are dependent on a timer. From the main SWF I want to be able to turn the timer on or off.

Do I need to put a addEventListener in the external SWF file?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Crossfade Externally Loaded Images?

Nov 11, 2008

I've been looking into how to crossfade externally loaded .jpgs.So far everything I have found deals with slideshows and seems more complicated than what I need.I have created a new Loader that will load a .jpg when the thumbnail of the corresponding image is clicked.I am trying to get the currently loaded image to crossfade upon load completion of the new image being loaded.I'm thinking I can define a variable that is the current image in the loader and then on completion of loading of the new image run a function that fades out the current image and fades in the new image simultaneously.I am having problems trying to identify the currently loaded image of the loader into a variable.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Portfolio With Externally Loaded Images Fading In And Out

Mar 5, 2010

I'm still an amateur at flash (more precisely, actionscript), how to do a simple gallery with static thumbnails which, when clicked, dynamically load an image into an empty movie clip, fading in and out (using actionscript)? By that I mean, click on a thumbnail, main image fades in, click on another thumbnail, loaded image fades out, image of clicked thumbnail fades in. Is it possible? I have successfully achieved thumbnails that load an image externally using both XML and using the ordinary loadMovie function, opting in the end for the loadMovie function and modifying AnaS' [URL] code (some of his comments are still in there). The reasons being that I'm not particularly concerned if I can't use XML for this, but I do want the images to load externally to save space.

I figure that the thumbnails are small enough in file size for me to afford to put them in, but just in case anyone think that XML is better for the job, I'm also including my XML file. On top of AnaS' code, I have added an if-else statement (lines 13-21) but, as I have said before, I'm an amateur, so I can get my head around the 'if' part of the statement, but haven't figured out the 'else' section (namely, the fade out). From what I have seen (I've been looking for the solution for a long time), most people just settle for fading the image either in or out, but rarely both. If there IS a gallery with both fades, it is usually done professionally and the code is either unavailable or goes over my head.

How to click on a thumbnail and load and unload the image using in and out fades. I have seen something which is almost what I need (both fade in and fade out are present) in the form of Kirupa's XML gallery, but I wanted to make mine just the bare essentials and really simple (i.e., no carousel/sliding effects). I just noticed that there is no tutorial for something like this. Kirupa has two very, very good tutorials (the XML portfolio, which is very simple, and the XML gallery with the slide, which is quite advanced) but not an 'in-between' one, such as the one I'm trying to create. [URL]. I have an empty movie clip ('loader') and three thumbnails ('thumb1', 'thumb2' and 'thumb3') on the stage.

My code:
this.onEnterFrame=function() {
if (loader._alpha <100) {
loader._alpha += 5;
} /*else {
if (loader._alpha > 0) {
loader._alpha -= 5;

ActionScript 3.0 :: Does Loaded Content Get Choppy While Loading In Background

Apr 27, 2010

I have some preloader (timeline-based) content and some FLV's that I want the user to see while other content is loading in the background. The preloaded content and the FLV's are very choppy while the content is loading and run fine afterward. I initially thought this might be a RAM issue, but my other apps are running fine at the same time (YouTube, etc.) so I think it's an issue within my code or Flash Player. How do the really nice preloaders (animation on timeline OR FLV's) run so smoothly while background content is loaded? For example, are they independent SWF's? internalized classes exported for Actionscript? some other option I'm not privy to? Mine, for example, are internal classes in the main library that I have exported for AS.

IDE :: Get Flash To Keep Loading All The Images In The Array Until They're All Loaded?

Feb 26, 2009

So I've got an array of images,

Code:
pixArray = ["Images/Architecture/Hospitality/01.jpg", "Images/Architecture/Mixed/01.jpg", "Images/Architecture/Office/01.jpg", "Images/Architecture/Performing/01.jpg"];

It's part of a slide show, loading one image, waiting 4 seconds, then it loads another, etc etc. The problem is, between each image, it has to load.I'm trying to find a way to get flash to keep loading all the images in the array until they're all loaded, something to the effect of:

on the completion of the loading of the first image, start loading the second image in the array. On completion of loading that, load the third image, etc, until there are no more. I already have a variable that tells it how many items there are as well:

Code:
var total:Number = 4;

ActionScript 2.0 :: Externally Loaded Swf Does Not Stay Loaded?

Feb 16, 2006

I am loading an externally loaded swf that uses a mask to transition in. When the user clicks a different button I am doing a gotoAndPlay that goes to a mask that "unloads" the content (it doesnt actually unload the info is just outside of the mask area. As soon As I jump to that section the movie is no longer loaded and just shows the container clip that I had created for it. The Container Clip is never changed and is the same throughout the whole process. The only thing that changes is the mask animation.I have tried both loadClip and loadMovie but no luck on keeping the clip loaded.

EDIT - I have narrowed it down. When I change the mask movieclip the movie unloads for some reason. Is there a way I can keep it loaded?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Stop A Timer In Progress In The Background?

Jun 8, 2011

Finally I was able to get my site running with a little FLASH ACTIONSCRIPT in it. (all courtesy of url....)I got so excited and published it right away 'cause I think for as a photographer, it's a huge accomplishment on my part.In my main movie, there are 3 BUTTONS namely: Portfolio, About me, and Contact.In the main timeline I added this script below

PHP Code:

stop();
delay=30000;
intervalID=setInterval(pause,delay);[code].....

if you notice it, there is a 30 second timer set to purposely move the playhead back to "rewind" and load the RANDOM SCRIPT again. The problem comes whenever you click on either ABOUT ME or CONTACT, because once you are in those frame, the timer will bring you back at "rewind" naturally.I tried to search for some way to stop the timer when pressing ABOUT ME and CONTACT but haven't seen one yet.
