I am looking for options for project architecture. Service - text chat between two clients. An experts or a teachers use an Ajax client, another - a students use a flash (AS3) applications (social networks, AIR apps, Android AIR apps, etc).
How best to organize a chat between the two? The server side can use PHP and mySQL.
In terms of HTTP request performance should I pick AJAX or Flash? To be more specific, I'm more into Flash than AJAX and I'm currently working on a wide scale web project. I wanted to try AJAX out for once and now it's getting too messy for me. Before it gets more complicated I thought may be I can run Flash on the background for HTTP Requests and use it with javascript. I couldn't find any benchmark on the Internet, but I think AJAX is faster than Flash. So what's your personal experience? Is there too much difference between Flash and AJAX?
View 4 RepliesI have problems with facebook application based on flash which communicate with PHP using FBJS-bridge.When someone use the application for the first time, he/she is asked for various permissions. After that, flash contact PHP with ajax but request is never sent. When you refresh page, everything is working without any problems.If you remove the application on privacy settings, refresh the page and try again -same bug happens.If you allow application, refresh page, in other tab remove application and start application in previous tab - user is asked for permissions but everything is working after allowing application.This is FBJS code

openPermissions is called to display permission dialog, and on allow flash function allow() is called. In flash, allow() calls JS function ajaxCall(), which should make ajax request. But, ajax.post never sends request. I know that for sure, because flash function parseAjax was never called and also debugging tools in browsers are not showing any ajax requests. URL and parameters are same as when it is working. No flash or JS errors are detected...

Hence i thought i would use the list component and disable the selection in it. I m able to add the chat messages into the list. But i doubt if large chat data might hinder the performance. Im using a collection and i ve binded it with the list. Whenever i receive a chat i update the collection and it gets displayed in the list. Can someone tell me if his could pose a performance problem as list component is not intended for this purpose.

I am trying to save the text in the chat window from sky poker. A standard select all and copy then paste will only extract the text visible at the time. It is not possible to scroll and select all the text.It is possible to view all the chat box text that has taken place while you have the window open.I guess that what is happening is you are simply viewing what exists on the chat log of the server via the poker window.What I would like to do is either:
i) get the chat text (I expect this is only possible if it is saved on my pc)
ii) harvest the text as it happens.

- Imagine a 2-way text chat, with 2 people connected via RTMFP to the FMES server. Would text chat with RTMFP NetStreams be more appropriate than RMI?
- Imagine a 2-way text chat, 1 person connected via RTMP and the other via RTMFP, would the text chat be better over RMI or over RTMP NetStreams?

I'm building a website where I hook people up so that they can anonymously vent to strangers. You either choose to be a listener, or a talker, and then you get catapulted into a one-on-one chat room. The reason for the app's construction is because you often can't vent to friends, because your deepest vulnerabilities can often be leveraged against you later on. (Like it or not, this is a part of human nature. Sad.)
I'm looking for some insight into how I should architect everything. I found this neat tutorial, [URL], which suggests using python & stackless + flash. Someone else suggested I should try using p2p sockets, but I don't even know where to begin to look for info on that.

I want client A to publish and clients B and C to play A's stream. I've tried to do this. A starts publishing, B and C create receiving NetStream based on A's nearID. Unfortunately only latest connected to A client can play A's stream.
Can I build up visual communication just based on two flash client points? I mean a live video connection from a client side to another client side, without FMS.

For editing the list I use Php. The problem: When I delete an item in my productlist, the array doesn't behave dynamically. It has the same lenght and every item still has the same index. I see one client connected which I assume is the encoder, however, which stat tells me the number of current connections watching the live stream? I see 'connected' but that number never changes.. Even if I have two different internet connections watching the live stream and I disconnect them I don't see any stats change.
