Dec 2, 2011I'm trying to create a simple application that streams the webcam to FMS 4.5 (running on a Windows 7 machine), and then displays the published stream locally. Here's my code:

All traces in the event handlers show the NetConnection connecting successfully, and the netstream publishing successfully. However, I get no video output from this. I've confirmed this using the sample video player in FMS 4.5 as well. There is also a weird traffic pattern reported in the FMS Admin console.There is some traffic (~4K) when the NetStream first publishes, but after that there is no activity.

Dec 1, 2009I have a series of mp4 videos (H.236 @ 22 fps) streaming from an akamai FMS serve via RTMP protocol in flash player 9+ with AS 3.My goal is to create client side playlists that smoothly switch from one stream to another. I am creating these playlists using a series of netStream. play (filename,start,len) methods. If I don't use an offset for the start parameter, then the stream switches smoothly from one video to the next with not noticeable jump or jerkiness. However if I introduce a start offset, say a few seconds in, I start to see a quick little hiccup or pause between the seams as it switches from one playlist stream to the next.

Media Server :: NetStream.Play.InsufficientBW When Streaming Server Side Playlist?
Sep 23, 2010I am streaming pre recorded audio files (mp4) to an AIR client. I have tried two different solutions,
streaming the file directly with the NetStream.play("mp4:xxxxx.m4a") and creating a server side playlist, adding the same sound clip and then streaming the playlist. The problem is, when streaming the playlist i get a few NetStream.Play.InsufficientBW, this does not happen when streaming the file direct. Both solutions uses bufferTime=1.0
I would like to use a server side playlist to implement a simple key solution so that the client dont know the full path to the file, but instead sends a key to a custom server side function that looks up the file path and creates a stream for the client.
Media Server :: Recorded Streams Are Different Length
Oct 31, 2011I am trying to record a video chat being done through FMS. I have made my program start recording only when the second stream publishes. Then, I stop recording when either streams stops publishing. In my last test I recorded a 45 minute chat. The resulting flv files show that there are 13 seconds difference between them. The video gets more out of sync as it goes along. My first guess is that it is something to do with dropped frames. Is there any way to force FMS to fill in dropped frames. Sep 6, 2010I understand how clients use bandwidth detection etc to dynamically switch streams via client calls with ns.play2( ... ), but I was wondering if it's possible to only ever use 1 initial ns.play( ... ) call on the client side, but let FMS server side logic that I write dictate which client sees what content. For example, I have 3 clients connected to my FMS server, all watching a live stream. I then decide I want clientA to see 'recordedMovieA.flv', clientB to continue seeing the live stream, and clientC to watch 'recordedMovieB.flv'.

Media Server :: Switch Or Change A Server-side Stream - Starts Lagging After 2 Seconds Of Playing And Sound Disappears
Jan 28, 2010I try to switch or change a server-side stream, it starts lagging after 2 seconds of playing and sound disappears. Here are scenarios that result in that terrible lag:
1. I create server-side playlist with stream.play() with reset=false; when it is time to play the next movie in the playlist, it starts lagging after 2 seconds.
2. The same problems appears when I just switch streams. I installed FMF Feature Explorer and tried to launch SwitchStreams sample application: the same problem - server stream starts lagging after I switch streams with stream.play().
I tried on different servers (local and remote), with different players (debug player of FMS Admin Console, Standard Flash videoplayer component, OSMF player, Flex video player). I also tried all possible flv, f4v and mp4 file compression options for video files - still the same problem. I have also tried literally thousands of Application.xml settings: changing buffer, buffer ration etc. Is there any tip where I should search for a solution?

Sep 16, 2011NetStream.play(streamName, -1); This seems to be working wrong.if I have recorded an flv on server using FMS and FMLE with only audio with name "myaudio" and then after if I try to play a live stream using NetStream.play("myaudio", -1) then it plays the recorded stream. I believe that documentation says that it should start a live stream instead of playing recorded stream as the second argument is -1. Is this a bug in NetStream.play method?

Media Server :: Adding Custom Callback Handler To NetStream Client
Nov 2, 2010I'm trying to add a custom callback handler to a NetStream client in a p2p application. The problem is, when I add such a handler, the NetStream Client doesn't function as it did before. It seems the NetStream.client object is changed. I know the default object is this. But changing the client to this doesn't solve the problem. The remoteControlStream, is the incoming stream. And the localControl stream is the stream being published. This is the localControlStream that's being send by the peer, and received as remoteControlStream:

The onPeerConnect method of the localControlStream doesn't get called when I connect when the above handler is added. When I remove the that handler, the onPeerConnect method gets called. Obviously the problem is the NetStream.client.
Media Server :: Flv Playback Client Side Bandwidth Detection?
Jun 23, 2011Has anyone been able to get bandwidth detection to work using the flvplayback control (client side - using AS3)? I have successfully got it to work using the video component with bwcheck and bwdone but I need to figure out how to do this with the FLV playback control. I am using FMS 3 and do not want to use the native bandwidth detection that comes with FMS. I need to detect the clients bandwidth and set the buffer time and what bitrate of a video (high, medium, low) I provide to a user based on their bandwidth.
In other words, is there an equivialant of bwcheck and bwdone that the flv playback can hook into to detect the client's bandwith?

May 24, 2010I'm using the server Stream.play() method to playback a recorded stream, it plays back fine until it hits the buffer limit (Say I set the buffer to 5 seconds, it will playback fine for 5 seconds). But then it freezes and playback is very stuttery (1 frame every 2/3 seconds). Is this a know issue? I'm using windows 2008 server. I've tried a few things to resolve this but no luck. The server is running the dev license and has no load.

Mar 11, 2010I now have a Windows PC and I purchase Adobe Flash Media Server 3.5 software and install.I but server space on a managed server arrangement.I upload my pre recorded Flash clips to the server and my website and playlist to my host. Basically the website is channelled via http and the clips via RTMP. The key question that no one inside Adobe seems to be able to grasp (or answer) is ~ will it work if I stream my own clips?! or is it inferior to say that of a professional streaming company.The streaming companies charge anything from $125 to $250 a month, a big cost for someone like me, streaming around 1000mb a month. So does anyone out there have direct knowledge of this software and can you stream via rented server space without using a streaming company?

As I know computeSpectrum() cannot work on streaming files, so I think I need to access the recorded files using http instead of rmtp. Is that true?

Aug 2, 2011I have a problem on streaming my files with the FMS 4. There are several testfiles on my VOD-directory, most of them with a length about 2 minutes. Altough there are some with 12 minutes. So if i want to play all those files with the StrobeMediaPlayer, only the files with a 12 minutes length are working, on the others the player ist sayin "We are unable to connect to the content you´ve requested.
