My question today is dealing with a dynamically generated button with a textField.I have the button copy in XML and I need to add a buffer of 10 pixels to either side of the textField. I tried to CENTER my textFormat, but then I could not see my text because the button is for some strange reason 545.45 instead of 88 like it should be. When I change the alignment to LEFT then I can see my text, but still the larger issue is my button size is horribly off.[code]
I'm adding text to a movieclip as you can see below. The text is alomost not visible because it's so small. If I don't scale the movieclip then the text becomes clipped. I basically want the movieclip to be a tight container (the same size as the textfield) for the Textfield. The below does not work. How can I do this?
I have a textField that I'm populating dynamically through loadVariables. The text that is being loaded dynamically is HTML with an <img> tag. Once I autoSize the texField the image is removed.
I need to scale a movieclip to fit the width of the screen and it's height to stay proportional. I have code that's always worked fine but, in this case, the movieclip is constantly changing size and this throws off my code, scaling it incorrectly when using a listener (it's initial scale is perfect).
I imagine it's because it has shifted from the size it's proportions were read from by the time it applies them. I know my problem is theoretically solvable because the movieclip can be scaled correctly if I scale width and height equally. However, I need the movieclip to always be the width of the screen.
I've set the publish settings to 100% width and 100% height and have then added the 'noScale' function into the first frame of my timeline. Here is an idea of what I'm trying to create:
I have three movieclips that are touching the left side of the Stage and want them to touch the left side of the browser but centre vertically. I can do this by adding the 'Stage.align = LC' command, but not sure if this is the right way to go about it.
The movieclip that is on top contains a logo and I want it to have a fixed size. I called the instance name 'logo_mc'.
The movieclip below 'logo_mc' is called 'container_mc' and is a strip of photographs that I need to run from the left to the right side of the browser no matter what the browser size. I need this movieclip to scale proportionally up and down as they viewer resizes their browser so the first photo is touching the left side of the browser and the last picture is touching the right side (without distorting).
The final movieclip is called 'buttons_mc' and is right below the 'container_mc' clip. This movieclip needs to remain a fixed size.
Obviously when the 'container_mc' clip resizes I need the other movieclips to move up and down to stay the same distance above and below the 'container_clip'.
I want to put together a flash gallery of photography for my photography business. I am very good at Photoshop design, html, css, javascript but I am a novice with flash. I can use it and use some actionscripting but my knowledge is limited.
I see galleries like this one: [URL]
The images expand and contract perfectly as the browser is resized. I am used to having to size pics for the lowest res screens (I design for 1024 width resos's usually).
What size should I make pictures to work like this... Does flash scale them down / up / either... are there quality issues with letting flash manage the sizing.
I have made a UI control which contains a bunch of TextFields representing the members of an Array. I draw these un a list like in a combo box's drop down. Currently I hard code the height of the TextFields, iterate through the Array and position the TextFields by adding the hard coded height each time. Simple enough. But now I would like to put the control in another place where I must use smaller text. So I would like to make the thing general so I can resuse it whenever I want, simply by applying a new TextFormat. My problem is that I want to still be able to position the TextFields accurately regardless of the font size used in the TextFormat. I have tried just creating the TextField, applying the TextFormat, setting the text, and then trying to read the TextField's height, but alas this does not work.
what the best way is to find each TextField's height so that I can build my list?
For my menu on my page, I want to do things dynamically. For the drop down menu, I want to have a box around the link when moused over, that changes depending on the number of characters that are going to be placed on it.

See how the "tab" around team is smaller than the menu? But GRAPHICS will be larger, and so on.
I'm parsing an XML file to pull in the data for the menu, so I want to handle this portion dynamically as well.
I am trying to make a flash blog and basically I need to be able to load in text from an xml file into the different text fields I have setup and then I need to read the height of the loaded text so I can position the next post correctly below it.
The following for loop dynamically creates 4 instances of the same button. Each button is then populated with its own textfield.I have given the textfield(s) an instance name of option0, option1,etc, etc. I want to populate the text in each field with something different (Home, Contact, etc, etc). I am trying to call the textField by its created instance name "option0", but I get an error saying it's not recognized.
I want to display text in a textfield which dynamically creating. Also this textField is creating inside a movicelip which is created dynamically. I used the following code. Its not working.
var mainMc:MovieClip = _root.createEmptyMovieClip("mainMc",1000); mainMc.createTextField("my_txt",1,100,100,300,100); my_txt.text = "This is my first test field object text.";
i can create a textfield, show my percentage loaded in it, but when it hits 100%, i want to get rid of the textfield... doing all my stuff in actionscript so moving to the next frame not a possibility. unless i create the textfield in another movie..
I want to rotate a dynamically created textfield, i opened "flash help" and took the sample code i found below (i changed the font with "Verdana"). But it seems that the font cant be embed and it dissapears.
Code: var my_fmt:TextFormat = new TextFormat(); my_fmt.font = "Verdana"; this.createTextField("my_txt", this.getNextHighestDepth(), 10, 10, 160, 120);
i can create a textfield, show my percentage loaded in it, no problem.but when it hits 100%, i want to get rid of the textfield....doing all my stuff in actionscript so moving to the next frame not a possibility...
I'm loading a XML to Dynamic Text field and all is OK, but the SWF is show at left out site of the flash document, I only want put a icon and a text in the same line, something like this: <body><img align="left" src="icon.swf" width="15"><mess>You have 4 new messages</mess></body> I try with many kinds of tags, CSS and attributes and nothing.
I have a project which has loads of FLA's with embedded textfields on the timelines. We now need to localize this project into Arabic, with right-to-left text (pulled in from XML) - my understanding is that this is only possible with TLF textfields.
It's going to be a huge task to manually convert all these texfields to TLF. Is there a way to programmatically set a normal textfield to be a TLF textfield?
Is it possible to add a textField dynamically but have different instance name each time this is created? In other words if I have a button that whenever its click it will add a textField to the stage and assigns a new instance each time this is added.
ActionScript Code: button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, addField); var inputWidth = 200; var inputHeight = 20; function addField(event:MouseEvent):void{ [Code] .....
Something like this but instead of textFieldName this would be different each time.
I need to create a textfield that is reporting events on stage dynamically (hitTests, onPress etc.). Something similar to output window in flash application. I want it to add events line by line, so afterall one can see what has been done.
We have a for loop creating text fields from arrays.
We have four arrays.
First three arrays create dynamic textfields getting their data values from a xml file.
The last array creates empty input textfields where the user enters the data.
What I'm trying to do is to send the values of these textfields to a PHP file.
The problem here is that I'm not being able to get the updated data of dynamically created input fields,which is the data that the user(visitor) enters.
I'm working on font embedding in Flash (flas are compiled using CS5 made previously in CS3). The project is split into a number of separate flas, and I'm having trouble with one particular one. I'm dynamically embedding the fonts using a class I wrote that sits on top of the stage listening for Event.ADDED then searching for textfields that have dynamic text and embedding the font needed dynamically (No efficiency requirements here. I have a check so that I don't bother processing textfields that are already embedded. No textfields in any of the flas (to my knowledge) have fonts embedded.
But some textfields are saying that they are, as in textfield.embedFonts == true.
In the fla global font embedding, that no fonts are embedded. If I click on the actual textfields embed button, I see that the font of the textfield is in the font list, but no character ranges are embedded. This is leaving me confused, as I want absolutely no fonts embedded in any flas. But the font for the individual textfield is always in the font embed list, no matter how many times I remove it. If I click on the embed button for the textfield to check it there is no embedding then the font is added to the list without any character ranges.
I have images being dynamically loaded into a html textfield and they look very pixelated. I am able to getImageReference via an id attribute in the <img> tag, but I can't apply smoothing to this DisplayObject because I can't access it's content which is the bitmap. I know the image is loading and I know the reference is working because I can call the id name, I can scale, rotate change the alpha and apply filters. I have tried setting the stage quality to best, but that doesn't make a difference. If I do an addChild(loadedObject) as a test, the image is loaded (not in the text field) and looks beautiful no pixelation at all.
Here is the error I am getting: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property content through a reference with static type flash.display: DisplayObject.
Here is the code: ActionScript Code: var loadedObject:DisplayObject = testText_4.getImageReference('image_mc'); var myBitmapData:BitmapData = Bitmap(loadedObject.content).bitmapData.clone();
been working in Flash using AS2 and loading external XML data into the movie. I am able to load the data into in Flash and parse it, but I haven't been able to figure out how to load the names of buttons from separate nod values into a textfield.Unfortunately, I dont feel I know AS3 well enough and am a little bit rusty on my AS2.I created a movie clip which holds the dynamic textfield and placed 30 instances on the stage. Each instance is successively named "cityName[i]" where i is a number from 1-30. I've tried setting the instances as both buttons and movie clips. I also tried setting both the .text and.htmlText attributes, but neither works. Ive embedded the fonts on the dynamic text field. Ive also tried changing the field to input instead of dynamic but that doesnïwork either. Ive been tracing things to try to debug, but havenï found the issue yet.Here's the code:
ActionScript Code: //load XML data var citiesData:XML = new XML();
I have an input text field, with only one character and aligned to left, where i put information dynamically. If i put the character from actionscript, it doesn't align as it should. If i manually enter a character then it aligns well. After i manually added the character, if i try to add it from actionscript too, it aligns correctly. The font i use is created by me, and all the letters are aligned the same way. I embedded the font.
