I have to decide whether I should choose a Flash or a HTML5 presentation tier third party application for displaying virtual tours. The thing is: The Flash app is better, but doesn't work one iPad. Which do you think I should go for? Flash, high quality or HTML5, a little worst quality?
View 3 RepliesIn a RIA application you are supposed to put as much business logic as possible outside of the RIA layers (flash/silverlight etc). What is the reason behind this? Any logic that goes into the presentation tier gets the benefit of executing faster...
Is this because the RIA technology will most likely need a face lift down the road and you will have to rewrite all the business logic?
how would the 3-tier architecture be applied in a Rich Internet Application?I thougt that flex was presentation, .net web services where busines and informix was data. But then when I started I feel that I must be wrong.

It has come to our attention that these are not fully supported on HTML5, and that they will not play on HTML5 platforms such as the iPad.So, in order to support such platforms, my thinking is that we need to try and display the video using the HTML5 <video> tag if the browser supports HTML5, or fall back to flash if it does not.However, it would seem that this requires our site to provide two video formats (flash format and video such as MP4). That presents problems because A), we need to store multiple video formats on the site, and B) our existing flash data will no longer work.Can anyone recommend information about the best way to support as many platforms as possible. And is there any way to do so without having to support multiple video formats?

I am running Flash Media Streaming Server 3.5.1 r516 on a CentOS system. I also have WHM/cPanel installed on this system. My scenario is this. We have a large number of MP4 media files that are currently located in a web root directory created by cPanel: /home/mediafa/public_html/fullservices. These all work without a problem when doing progressive downloads. However, we also want to make them streamable with FMS as well. From the documentation, I should be able to create an entry in the /<fms install dir>/applications/vod/Application.xml file to look up files in that folder.
Here is my VirtualDirectory block:

However, when I try to connect to a file that is in that directory, I get a 404 error in the access.00.log file. I've tried to change the owner/group on the fullservices folder as well as the owner/group of the target file to the fms user/group, but I still cannot connect to it. The connection address is rtmp://<ipAddress>/vod/mp4:1005-03m_256k.mp4.

First, excuse the screen name, I tried a lot more and was frustraded and wrote that. I got nothing but love towards google. now to my problem, when I try to play a video on some websites, ite tells me to and when i go to that website I can NOT click on the allow box and check it.

I updated flash. I deleted the whole macromed folder and reinstalled flash, did a system restore. and nothing worked. I tried to update java but it gave me error 1606 and that it couln't get to %appdata% did the offline manual thing and got the same error.

For example as for implementing MULTIPLE VIEWS for 1 View-Model does Flex implementation make it also more obvious?

When the flash app is served from our site - it works fine.But when we try to embed it in a 3rd party site (using an Iframe that points to our site) the following happens: when we try to perform a login to FB using the AS3 function Facebook.login(onLogin, opts), a small browser-based login to FB pop-up comes up, but it has the following error first

Is it possible to simply inject items using JavaScript? Is it possible to wrap the players in a container .swf that adds our context menu item along with the items included by the original swf?
Edit: To be clear, what I'd like to do with my extension is add a context menu item to any 3rd party Flash program. So for instance, if a user visits YouTube, I'd like to add my own menu item along with YouTube's custom items.
I have just been asked to do a project that i can do it in flash cause of its interactivity and graphical comunication and so on... its like an interactive map, VERY interactive. BUT, came the question of how long more will Flash survive after the HTML5 and the discontinuing of flash player for mobiles.Does it worth it doing it on Flash or should i move to something else?
View 8 RepliesI'm just trying to understand how once HTML5 enters the picture, the current concerns about browser incompatibility and other issues go away? Wouldn't HTML5 simply add another set of browsers to the large list of current browsers that the application must target?
That is, assuming the enterprise web app requires one of these new HTML5 features (e.g. playing audio and/or video, integrating SVG or vector graphics, etc.). If such a feature isn't critical then graceful degradation may be acceptable and then my question is moot.
But for those apps that require one of these new HTML5 features, are you planning to support older browsers, or expecting it's acceptable to restrict to HTML5 browsers because the enterprise in question has made one of them their new corporate standard (or other scenario, etc.)?

I'm working with a rather large flash file and I've already been to the flash website to download all the updates that deal with large file issues. Things are much better now. However, I was having issues with flash coming back and telling me that my virtual memory was low. I adjusted it and now I'm not getting that error anymore. Now every hour or so flash will just quit. I'll be working and then it will be gone. I don't have a lot of ram on my pc.. 2GB. I'm thinking I'll upgrade it to 4 tomorrow. I'm working

View 2 RepliesI have a website setup in IIS 7.5 with a virtual directory pointing to a local folder outside of the www root of my website e.g:
the website is c:website
the virtual directory is in c:images
I use flowplayer to play my movies, when I put the movie path in my website root directory structure, say c:websitemoviesa.flv it works fine in the player, but if I put them inside the virtual directory and point the player to play it from there using a relative URL, it doesn't work
I suspect that this has to do with either permissions or flash configurations to allow it to access directories outside of the scope of the website, but I have no idea where to edit such settings

I'm confident that I changed all paths to files correctly, but still it doesn't work. However I can see Gray box that should contain virtual tour, but it doesn't display it
