I have this code that activates when rollover, rollout, and release. I functions for rollover and rollout works, but the release function does not. I'm trying to pass some strings with url's to the function within a loop.
var url1:String = "http://www.google.com";
var url2:String = "http://www.google.com";
var url3:String = "http://www.google.com";
this is a standalone AIR app which runs off of usb media to help people organize their personal information. there is an XML file in a separate folder which stores the name of a file that the user uploads to usb media (into yet another folder), in this case, the person's living will. getting the path to that file as it differs from mac to pc has been a challenge and i feel the only way around this is to give a conditional for the operating system (second function below).
My immediate goal below is to get the name of the file (VALUE) over to the openThisFile function so that "fileName" can be given a value appropriately in the second function code for mac. I can't figure out how to do this...Alternately, is there a way to manipulate "currentTarget.data.toString()"? I was thinking that could also help me... it has the full path to the file, which unfortunately does not work on Macs... for some reason it just can't locate the file (unless I'm missing something).

I have a list of txt files and when one is selected it is read and assigned to a string variable. this string is then pushed to a view : pushView(viewer, string), where the string is displayed in a textarea. I want to also pass the relative path of the file also. Is this possible to pass two strings?
I am working with a function that converts csv data to a multi-dimentional array. I am then going through the characters to find specific situations in the way the strings are handled in the array. One example is if I have a string like - "this is a string, yeah" - then I make sure not to count the comma in the string because it is between quotes from that string. Anyhow In the following function I have some how lost my spaces in the results.Instead of getting "this is AS3" I am getting "thisisAS3". Spaces seem to only be available in the strings that have quotes.
function CSVtoArray(csv:String):Array { var inQuotes:Boolean = false; var field:String = "";
The documentation on parameters for application.onConnect() is below. It can take a Client "object" but is ambiguous about the optional parameters (strings vs objects). I'm guessing just strings?
I have a user value object with a few pieces of info in it that I pass around client side and would like the server to add it to its list of users (usersSO). I'm guessing I'll have to send it up in pieces and recreate it somehow on the server?
ParametersclientObjA Client object. This object contains information about the client that is connecting to the application.p1 ..., pNOptional parameters passed to the application.onConnect() handler from the client-side NetConnection.connect()
If you place a for loop in a recursive function with the function call within the loop... will the loop finnish or does it stop working untill the last recursion?
I'm wondering how I can create a reference to a function/variable by using strings. Sorry if I'm not explaining the problem well, but let me show you what I mean in an example:You can create a reference to a class using strings by using the getDefinitionByName as follows:var classRef:Class = getDefinitionByName("myClass") as Class;var myClass1:classRef = new classRef();Similarly, how do you refer to functions and variables? The reason why I want to know is because I'm trying to implement a function which takes in the event handler name as the parameter, and what the function essentially does is that it adds an event listener with the associated handler (based on the parameter) to an object, something like this:
public function addListener(handler:String):void { mc.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, "on" + handler); }
I have an external log file which name changes each session, with the format XXXXX.log I need to load it inside a swf to show its data, but each time the log's name is different, I need to open the .fla, changing the name of the file and then republishing the swf. So I have made a simple script to load another .txt, to type manually in it the 5 number of the logs name and load it externally inside the swf:
I'm using String.split to parse a command line string into an array of strings. The result is then used to call a function using the Function.apply API.If apply(null, ["17"]) is called with this function:[code]does not work (expected output: false Boolean; actual output: true Boolean).Is there a way to make it recognize "true" and "false" (or anything else) as Boolean values, just like it does with numerical strings? Ideally "true" and "false" should also remain valid string values.
I'm using String.split to parse a command line string into an array of strings. The result is then used to call a function using the Function.apply API.
If apply(null, ["17"]) is called with this function:
static function test(foo:int):void { trace(foo, typeof(foo)); }
it works as expected (output: 17 number).
However, calling apply(null, ["false"]) or apply(null, ["0"]) with this function:
static function test(foo:Boolean):void { trace(foo, typeof(foo)); }
does not work (expected output: false Boolean; actual output: true Boolean). Is there a way to make it recognize "true" and "false" (or anything else) as Boolean values, just like it does with numerical strings? "true" and "false" should also remain valid string values.
I am attempting to get Flash - Javascript communication working using ExternalInterface.addCallback, using code found at http:[url].... I am trying to pass parameters into Flash using a javascript function, but it only works if I insert a 'window.alert' line into the code. Once I click OK, the parameter str is passed into Flash ok. The function is:
function sendToFlash(str) { if (str=="tools"){ window.alert(str); getFlashMovie("richFunctionality_corp").sendTextToFlash(str);[code]....
If I remove the window.alert, str isn't passed into Flash. Is this a browser speed thing? A value menu is passed out of Flash using getURL("index.php?pageID=239&menu=tools"), i.e. the page reloads and a php script sends the appropriate str value to the sendToFlash javascript function based upon the value of menu.
I have an object that has all the elements I would want to pass arguments: var args:Object = { 'dog', 11, myArray }; and I want to be able to pass the contents of args to doSomething without making any changes to doSomething (assume it's someone else's function) and I'd like to do it in a way that doesn't assume I will know anything about the contents of args.
How can I combine the following functions and still pass a different string to the buildUI(); function?
I have two functions that do the same thing only at the end they both call a function and pass a String value to the function. This string value is the only thing different.
Below is are my eventlisteners and functions as they are now:
female_start.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, startFemale); male_start.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, startMale); //FUNCTIONS THAT DO THE SAME THING AND BOTH CALL buildUI BUT PASS A DIFFERENT STRING.
I work on AS3 one week, and then take a break for a few weeks, then work on it a day, take a break, etc.. So I forget some of the basics, and need refreshers. I think I need to stop taking breaks.
Problem: I push multiple strings into an array, and some of the strings are the same.
Code: var myArray = new Array(); myArray.push (Snivvle); myArray.push (Kirupa); myArray.push (Snivvle);
I want to find out which element positions "Snivvle" hogs up. We can see that it would be using element 0 and 2, and if we do an "indexOf" we would only get to see element 0, and doing a "lastIndexOf" we would only see element 2. How do I find out ALL of the element positions "Snivvle" is located in, so that it returns: element 0, element 2.
I think this is fairly straight forward but my skills lie in JavaScript and Ruby rather than flash so I want to run this past a few other minds :) I have a flash file that will take pictures of the user via their web cam. I want to take that newly created image, base64 encode it then pass it to a JavaScript function. That JavaScript function will essentially take this data then embed it into a hidden form element on the page.
I'm having some trouble passing parameters with a function that is itself being passed as a parameter.In my application code I'm instancing that class five times:they are buttons in a menu.In that class, I've got an onRelease handler that does a number of things when a button is released, one of which is to invoke a function that is defined in the application level of the code.My problem is that I don't know how to send the function parameters.In my StandardButton class I have:
class StandardButton extends MovieClip { /* define properties */[code]..........
The function is successfully being "sent" to the StandardButton class, but without any parameters.How can I send parameters to the class instance with the way I've got this architected.
I am making a character walk. This code will make him wobble to the right and when thats done it will trigger him to wobble to the left and then call the function again to continue the loop.I can get the loop to work fine by calling the function but how do I STOP the function? Also I want to call it later on. Is there a way to start and stop a function?
I've worked out a great way to create a pixelized wipe effect, with movie clips of pixels nested in rows. I've created a loop that goes through each row, and then another loop inside that loop for the pixels in each row. I then use a random number between 1-0 for for the delay before it alpha-ups the pixel. I used Greensock for the tween and it works great. One problem, I can't stall the for loop for the rows, and every row comes up at once. Still, the pixels are staggered, and this is a nice effect, but I want it to move from left to right. So my code looks like this: (BTW, yes, AS3 does have setTimeout and it works fine)
function stripeWipeUp(stripe:MovieClip):void { var total = stripe.numChildren; for (var i:int = 0; i<total; i++) { // the rows trace(i); setTimeout(function() { [Code] .....
What happens, with the setTimeout in there, is that the "i" for loop hits every row (there are 27) before one setTimeout gets finished. So, it doesn't work as it should - the next loop should not execute until the setTimeout is finished. How to accomplish this so each row gets stalled by about 500 ms?
I am working with some actionscript that are spread out amongst different frames, and having changing conditions, determines whether to end the sequence (gotoAndStop(1)) or continue (gotoAndPlay(5))
I understand this easy example could be done several ways on one frame easily, (while x<10, etc).. but my code is so long and complicated, that the way I wrote it, it was easier to have it sort of "loop" between frames. The problem with this is, I think the frame jumping is slowing the coding down. I tried functions, (like having all coding in frame 5 as a function, then calling that function with the "else" in frame 6), but that would only run the function once.. I need it to keep looping.
Im trying to create a simple loop that creates 50 buttons, adds them to screen and then when a button is pressed, it traces out that number. I can get it to work by doing stuff I consider hacky (such as using the buttons X/Y location to determine its value), but I'd rather just be able to hold a single value in the function.
The code itself is: for (var a:int = 0; a < 5; a++) { for (var b:int = 0; b < 10; b++) {
what I'm trying to do is to get 4 movieclipps (leaf1, leaf2, leaf3, leaf4) to play the sound that is attached to them when is dragged onto another movieclip (NatureTarget) and the play button is pressed so that the sounds are played in the order they are dragged on. I know I need to use an array and the push function and a loop...
I have another question about my For loop. I am designing and coding a navigation menu at the moment, and so far I have got the button instances to duplicate for each of the menu items, and set widths, positioning values and RollOver/RollOut functions. However, I would ideally like to include the onRelease button functions in the for loop too - as they are all the same apart from the variable "i". Here is the code snippet:
I have a script that contains:an array of movieclips -> MaxBallArranother array of movieclips -> MaxBallLrgan array of textfields -> MaxToolTipArra library movie clip -> max_boxI'm trying to gather them some how in an addEventListener which worked fine in that way:
