It works great, but I need to change the coding so it's not hard-coded into the FLA, rather from the embed code for the swf.
Here's the chunk of AS3 code that's involved in the original loading of the XML data as well as the html text too.

May 6, 2009I've got a transition after clicking on a moie clip that goes like this:[code]The mcName variable is a Movieclip delared in the first frame, and set with the name of a movieClip in the onRelease of a button instance:[code]It does take the variable into the FadeFrame function, but doesn't work.It comes out in trace as undefined with the _alpha property.If I hard code the movieClip name into the setInteval it has no problem.Any reason why it doesn't want to operate on the movieClip alpha this way?

Sep 23, 2010I have a list component that has hard-coded labels on it (for testing). I then rotate the list component 90-degrees and notice the text disappears(during design time).
I test the file and the labels do not show up also during runtime.
I can get the labels to show if I rotate the component back to its' original state.

May 7, 2004if someone can shed some light to this matter... i'm pretty new (somewhat) w/ AS let's say, i got an .swf (voets enahnced mp3-player) @ [URL] --which works perfectly at the moment. i then referrenced this .swf in [URL] --which doesn't work prolly because the .swf is calling the XML (i.e. "onlineplaylist.xml") relative to its whereabout, which is /test08. the question is, is there any way around this problem, so that if i put all .SWFs in a certain location (server/directory/what-have-you...), and referrence it from another server &/or directory (like above), it would work?

Apr 7, 2011Im playing around with the last.fm api... Specifically the "getLovedtracks" call.... [URL] This is a weird one that I have never come across... The above call requires a username to return a track listing so if I hard code the username into my class like this.... var username:string = "aidanmack" No problems the call works... if I make that username equal to a dynamic text box string that has "aidanamck" typed into it..
so something like... var username:string = mystage.textbox.text
the last.fm api wont except this... I get user does not exist But if I check the call with the charles proxy Flash is defo sending the username "aidanmack" So I wonder if its to do with have how last.fms api interprets the string?

Feb 24, 2011I'm trying to create spinning shapes floating in space. There is still gravity in the environment, however it should not affect these platform objects because they are static (right?). How can I apply a constant angularVelocity to it though? It doesn't seem to apply when I assign it a value, probably due because it's static.
The simplest example would be a spinning gear, an automated teeter-totter (not influenced by external forces). All I'm trying to make is a spinning rectangle that could interfere with a ball controlled by the user.Do I need to use Joints to pin it in place? How can I specify the details of not being influenced by the dynamic objects?

I was just wondering if it was possible to link the buttons on my flash bar to open the pages into the main frame below my navigation bar? The code I have at the moment for my "home" button is the following:

2. Create two dynamic text fields on the left side of the stage. Type some text into them as I have done. Give them instance names of titleText and contentText.
3. Create a new empty movie clip (Insert -> New Symbol). Give it a name Image holder and hit OK.
4. Drag the image holder from the library to the stage. Position it right after the title text field (refer to screenshot). Give the image holder an instance name of imageHolder
5. Now we need to create the images that show up on the right side of each page. Feel free to use your own, or use the ones that I have. Remember the location where you save these images! You will need the path when we define the image sources in the XML document.

Feb 13, 2011I am creating a 2d platform shooting game. Currently I have my main character walking around left and right and the stage background also moves left and right.
The problem I am having is that if I go to far left the charater just walks 'off stage' and into nothingness but the stage still follows. How can I make it so if the character hits a certain point he just 'stops' and cant go left no more but can go right no problem. I have tried using hitTest with another movieclip but couldnt get it working.[code]...

Nov 30, 2010I'll try again, but this time I can add a link to the .fla my issue is this - I am building a website but the pages jump around - they don't stay still like they should[URL] the file is called "all files" - the main .fla is called "history" - there are two .swf's "wagon" and "band" if you test the website (CTRL+ENTER) and jump around between the pages for 20-30 seconds you will notice the pages jump around like crazy by themselves.

Make Buttons Link To Pages In Different MovieClip
Mar 29, 2010I'm just picking up flash and I am trying to make a new menu of buttons in the template and I will be changing the menu that is already there, but it isn't using conventional menu coding. This is the piece of code I am trying to use for my button to lead to a different movie clip to a different frame than the one the buttons are sitting in, a separate movie clip.

Of course there are more buttons, this is just one. Customhomes is the frame label, customhms_btn is the instance name. It tells me that customhms_btn is not defined. I have this code sitting in the movie clip that the buttons are in by itself in the first layer.

Sep 25, 2009Making buttons that open another url is easy enough, but for some reason I'm having a huge amount of trouble having a navigation button open new content on my website, such as moving from the Home content to the Menu content (the layout is static, only one small section filled with content changes.
I think the issue is that I can't figure out how to code it due to the fact that there are a good amount of nested movie clips, I'm not sure how to direct it to the place and frame I want.
