Flash :: Providing A JavaScript Link To Embed Content
Feb 8, 2010
We can obviously provide embed code to users such as.[code]which is what every (ok, so not every, but the vast majority) video sharing site does (YouTube, Break, Vimeo etc).However, somebody's pointed out that we could also provide a JavaScript embed link as follows:[code]What's the disadvantage of the JS embed option? The advantage is obvious, it's a nicer URL for the user, less characters to place in their site. I'm worried about security here, as somebody who doesn't know JavaScript; is this an inherently insecure way of doing things? And if the JavaScript URL is fine, how come none of the well-known sites do it?

What are the best practices for providing dynamic content within a flash site? I am trying to get my head around the idea and I am not sure how to think about this. Are there sites that use a graphic frontend for updating flash content? If so, what is the common way of doing this? XML? PHP+XML+SQL? etc. I am relatively new to all of this but I have been messing with Flash and XML. I can update stuff on my site by just modifying the XML but I want to go a step further now and create a frontend on the web where people could do this.

Various sites, such as [URL] for video, or [URL], use an object tag with a nested embed tag. Based on quite a bit of testing, I've concluded that these sites only work with the nested or stand-alone embed tag, but not with the equivalent object tag syntax. Here's an example:

When trying to reactive an old app we noticed that embedding flash content in posts (trying both stream.publish and feed) didn't seem to work any more. Instead, Facebook decided to throw the following error message:
There was a problem with the parameters of the request. Body of an error/warning message. Title is: Invalid Request
Further investigation showed that they're indeed working just fine in "classic" profiles, but new timeline profiles were apparently unable to show the embedded flash content. Did anyone else experience this and/or knows a workaround?

As the site will be totally in flash, there is no use of JavaScript required. So, what is the best way to embed a SWF file into a web page without using JavaScript. And why do you consider it to be the best one?

I need to suppress the default right click menu for flash embeds.
I've set menu to false, as well as used a stop default function on the right click event, but it still displays the menu.
Also, I don't have access to the .fla's, as the flash objects weren't created by me.

I'm trying to make an mp3 player that passes javascript events to a flash file. I'm not very saavy in flash so this may be a simple question.. but how do you make a "movie-less" flash file? Is it possible to just embed an actionscript file? Because that is really all I need to run. Side note: What is the easiest (and fastest) way to pass params to actionscript using javascript?

The "modern" updated way to embed a flash object, according to Adobe:
[Code]...
Then it works on Firefox and Chrome (the AS function is called and works properly) - (it doesn't work in IE though). How come it doesn't work with an object tag? How "safe" it is to use the embed tag instead of the object tag? Is it not obsolete? Note, that it is definitely not a timing issue - If I call the AS function from JS from an onclick function - then the results are the same.

I'm working on a simple website for A level ICT and am having some difficulties. My site has a javascript based drop down menu, as well as two .swf files embedded. When the drop down buttons in the menu are scrolled over, the .swf files disappear.index1.jpg is a screenshot of the page normally, index2.jpg is a screenshot when the menu link is scrolled over.I am also having difficulties with flash working with java on another page, the same .swf files do not fade into the background like the rest of the page when images are enlarged in a javascript gallery within the page. gallery.jpg shows this.

Im trying to change the size of this video object from 416x374 to 640x500.[code]I tried adding these parameters and none worked: scale="aspect", scale="exactfit", scale="default".From what I understand, this swf is being scaled inside flash using "StageScaleMode".Is there any way to override this and change the embed size?

Is there any way to embed Flash completely in HTML, without reference to an external SWF file? I ask because I would like to send an HTML file as an email attachment that the recipient will open in a browser and fill out as a form. The last step is that they will copy the result to their clipboard, paste it into a new message, and email it back. I cannot reliably copy to the clipboard with JavaScript because of the security issues, but there are simple Flash apps to add that capability.
I know I could just display the response text (which will be Base64 encoded) to the recipient and have them copy/paste, but it would be nice to provide this small convenience to them. Also, so you are aware, the text is often too large to include in an email using mailto. Yes. This needs to be done via email. The users have slow, occasional satellite email access and no other data connection to the interwebs. To make things worse, I cannot make them install anything. It is a difficult situation.

I'm trying to change event for mousewheel after leaving / entering flash content.
on flash - I want to scroll flash carousel
on web - I want to scroll web content
My problem is:
Different browsers give different "focus" for flash element and therefore not properly triggered in events: Event.MOUSE_LEAVE, MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER. I have JS triggered for MOUSE_OVER and MOUSE_LEAVE but this seems not to work.
Also mouseWheel is attributed to the browser, not a flash object.
Firefox 4.x/5.0 - fires them properly, without clicking Chrome 12.0.742.112 - it fires after the grant of "focus" or click on the flash object, like IE 9.0.1
JS code:
function stopWheel(e){
if(!e){ e = window.event; } /* IE7, IE8, Chrome, Safari */
if(e.preventDefault) { e.preventDefault(); } /* Chrome, Safari, Firefox */

I'm new working with Django. I have a html page with flash content named map.html, and I like to include it into another page named soporte.html (which extends base.html page) through {% include %} tag. If I open map.html directly without django, in firefox for example, I can see the flash content, but if I open the whole project using django (in firefox too) and I go to the page where is suposed to be the map I can't see anything.

I have an flash swf on a page loaded with object/embed tags.
<object width="565" height="300" >
<param name="movie" value="/swf/Sample-Elf.swf">
<param name="wmode" value="transparent">
<embed src="/swf/Sample-Elf.swf" quality="high" wmode="transparent" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" width="565" height="300"></embed>
</object>
I need to be able to start/stop or reload this swf with purely javascript as I don't have access to the source swf file to add any actionscript.I figured the easiest way to pull this off is by removing the element and replacing it forcing a redraw with would hince reload the swf movie. Though ie seams to cache the flash element and pretty much look over any updates I make to the embed/object tags and keeps right on going.So how do I force IE to redraw/update a flash element on a page?

I have recently launched a site for a client which includes an interactive flash element on the home page but it takes a long time to load (10-30seconds). I have followed advice from others about keeping image small and link movies rather than embed but still slow, the swf file is about 7.9mb which i thought was ok for the size of flash file. Does anyway else know where I have gone wrong whether it be the embedding or some other area.

Is there a way to set focus to the embed HTML element using JavaScript? Test case: embedded YouTube videos on a page.
I have no control over the embedded Flash element. So, is there a way to set focus on it by using only JavaScript?
I read somewhere that calling the element.focus() method works only in IE. I need a browser-independent way that works in Chrome/Firefox.

I have a simple html page with some javascript where if i click a link, it will show a flash video in a div using the swfobject.embedSWF function. I did a test: Uninstalled flash from my machine, then reloaded the page and clicked the link...I correctly saw no video. I then installed flash and came back to the same page (no reload) and the embed still won't work. I know in swfobject 1.5 (I'm now using 2.2), I would be able to embed the swf after the user installs flash, but now the user needs to reload the page in order to get the flash to appear. This is not good for my current situation, anyone know what is going on here? Here is sample code using a youtube video:

I would want to catch click with javascript on a embed flash object on my page. I used wmode="opaque" (tried transparent too) and put a low z-index. I tried catching click on a div, on the object element and on the embed element. On FF (5), all three of them work. On IE (7 & 8), none of them work. Here's my code (I removed some attribute for flash like type or classid) :

[URL] If you click on the home page you will see 4 links below the word FEATURES. All of the content for the links is below if you use the scroll buttons. All i want to have happen is if you click on a link it takes you to the content that the link describes. For example, if you click on 'community involvement' then it would automatically scroll you down to the community involvment content located below.
