Flash :: Reading And Drawing A Pixel Font In ActionScript

Feb 16, 2011

I've created a small pixel-font that I want to use in a Flash game. Each letter is 6 pixels tall, and 7 pixels wide. I've saved a PNG file with all the letters from A-Z lined up next to each other. Basically, I'd like to be able to have a system where I point to the PNG file and say "A is position (0,0) to (7,6), B is position (7,0) to (14, 6), etc" then render those individually on the screen as letters in my font.

I was inspired to do this by watching (the creator of Minecraft) Notch do it in a video of him making Megagun. So, has anyone done anything like this before? Is there a simple library that will let me do it already?

Actionscript 3 :: Get An Accurate Reading Of The Pixel Data From A Bitmap With A Matrix Transformation?

Mar 24, 2011

i've filled a circle shape with the bitmap data of a bitmap asset.i need to rotate the circle from the center, so i added the bitmap to the center of the circle and used a matrix transformation to shift the bitmapdata upward and leftward so it appears centered.
now i'm trying to read the bitmap data with getPixel() but the return value is off since it is returning the untransformed position of the bitmap data instead of the visible transformed bitmapdata.

Bitmap(Sprite(evt.currentTarget).getChildAt(0)).bitmapData.getPixel(evt.localX, evt.localY)

how can i get an accurate reading of the pixel data from a bitmap with a matrix transformation? updated with code. assume the redCircleData in my example is more colorful and something worth retrieving pixel data.

var redCircleData:Sprite = new Sprite();
redCircleData.graphics.beginFill(0xFF0000, 1.0);
redCircleData.graphics.drawCircle(0, 0, 100);[code]............

ActionScript 3.0 :: Drawing Letters As A Single-pixel Vector?

Dec 23, 2009

I want to create a game which uses a very basic font which is a single-pixel wide regardless of font size (similar to the font in classic Atari games such as Asteroids & Battlezone).Many, many, many years ago I had a programme on the BBC Micro (yeah, that many years ago) which drew letters, to whatever scale you wanted, as vector art. I was wondering whether anyone was aware of a similar library for Flash (or, alternatively, of an appropriate font which always scales to single-pixel width).

Actionscript 3 :: Cannot Type In An Input TextField With An Embedded Pixel Font

Sep 24, 2011

In order to use a pixel font in my textfields, I have created a font class in the Flash IDE. Then, I created a TextField instance with the font embedded with the anti aliasing set to bitmap. I export an SWC with all those things.I created a class with a nice API to be able to deal with this stuff easily.In FDT, I use class and this all works properly.

The issue here is that I now want to use one of these textfields as an input. I tried setting the textfield type to TextFieldType.INPUT, however the only thing that this does is allow me to select the text, I cannot type. I also created another asset with the type already set to input, does not work either.I tried with just the asset, not with my class, and then I can type ok.Is there something that prevents a textfield from being editable once it is part of a sprite? Here is the code of my class with the API:

package net.jansensan.as3fflikeui.text
{
// + ----------------------------------------
// [ IMPORTS ]

ActionScript 3.0 :: Determine Point Size For A Font That Matches Specified Pixel Size?

Aug 22, 2009

I have a list of fonts obtained via Font.enumerateFonts() and I want to display them all as 12 pixels tall. The problem is that I cannot simply set the point size because this can vary in actual pixel size for each font. So basically I want to determine what the correct point size is for a font in order to make it exactly 12 pixels tall. Because I'm doing this with a potentially large list I'm looking for an efficient method to do this.

When i view the details of the font, the font weight is regular, however when i use local("Gotham Bold") in the css i have to specify fontWeight: bold or else it wont pick it up. But when I use url("folderGotham-Bold.ttf"), and specify fontWeight: bold, it says that font weight is not found for that TTF. If i remove the fontweight, there's no errors, but the font is not applied to the text.

I am working on a as3 project in which the user select a font from Combo Box and that font SWF should be loaded Dynamically and then i need to change the font of the Dynamic text field.

I have swf font files downloaded from [URL]

My question is that how can i load the font swf dynamically from server and add them to the library and how can i use that swf to change the font of dynamic text field.

if there are embedded fonts in library the i can access them using this- --

var fontList:Array = Font.enumerateFonts();
for( var i:int=0; i<fontList.length; i++ )
{
trace( "font: " + fontList[ i ].fontName );
}

But How to use dynamically loaded Font swf as a font type.

EDIT : After few tests, it seems that the player replace the loaded font... How can I merge them, then ?

Embed A Font In Flash And Have It Displayed As Though It Was A Device Font?

Jul 19, 2009

Is it possible to embed a font in Flash and have it displayed as though it was a device font? In other words, can embedded fonts be aliased?Using the bitmap-text option doesn't work, Flash tends to screw up a lot of the character spacing. I haven't found any pixel fonts that mimic Arial, Verdana and Tahoma accurately. Setting the stage quality to low does alias the fonts but they become fragmented.Using device fonts is an option but, as far as I understand, some browsers/operating systems will take it upon themselves to anti-alias the text.
