i have a movieclip containing a dynamic text-field in it. When movieclip is stretched using transform manager, the text stretches. i am developing a component. Moreover,Event.Resize can not be used as Event.Resize is the Stage event. it does not work for movie-clips and sprite.Putting it in Event. Enter Frame works but that hangs the whole CMS when this technique is used.

I want to set the text field on the fly for txtName, so I add a little ActionScript (3!) that does it nice and easily: txtName.text = "Foo";reat. I am a newbie in Flash CS3. How to resize the width of of a movie clip according to the size the size of dynamic text inside it. I did it by creating a text field 'myText' and then converted it to a MovieClip symbol and named the MovieClip as myClip. The text in myText is assigned at run-time and its width changes according to the text.
I did it as follows:-
myClip.myText.selectable = false;
myClip.mouseChildren = false;
myClip.useHandCursor = true;
myClip.buttonMode = true;
myClip.myText.width = myClip.myText.textWidth + 5;
On doing this I find the clickable area changes according to the size of the text field but the text field doesn't appear at all.
how can i make a movieclip and a textfield to resize to the content of the text in the textfield? I mean, if I have a textfield with 3 letters font name XXX and then the content of the field change, how can i resize te textfield so the text dont autoadjust to the 3 letter space?
View 3 Repliesim building this interface in FLASH CS5, where i want to place a digital clock, i created a MovieClip InstanceName "RELOJ" in that MovieClip i have two layers, one with two Text Fields that are going to display Time and the other the Date, and on the other layer is the actionscript (AS3) of the whole clock and date.ok, now i place that movieclip on my Main TimeLine, i play the swf but i dont see the clock working.I have tried placing an Actions layer on my main timeline and writing "RELOJ.play()" but nothing... I have 2 input textfields on the stage and 1 dynamic textfield.
-input1 is for quantity
-input2 is for page count
When a user enters a number into the page count it makes a calculation and places the outcome into the dynamic textfield. This textfield is for the individual price.All of this so far works. What I want to do now is create another dynamic textfield for the total. So the individual price is multiplied by the quantity and this result is put in the new dynamic text field. I have the code for that working but here is where it gets tricky (for me anyway).The total price is to start off invisible. When I roll over the individual price the total price is to appear (For a test lets just say when I roll over an area the total price appears).To stop cursor flickering this should be done inside a movieclip. So... I have create a movieclip and placed a dynamic textfield inside it. They all have instance names BUT how do I reference it in script?I need to tell the resulting calculation to be placed inside the textfield which is inside the movieclip. If it isn't inside a movie clip I can do it. But how to I reference it when inside one?
I have a flash movie which produces a certificate for participants in an online course.It gets the pageHeight, pageWidth from the printjob then scales the certficate image to fit nicely in the middle.This is working fine on windows and linux, but on the mac it is not behaving. It is chopping of the right and bottom edge of the certificate, I think because it's misreporting the page size - putting in some debugging information about the dimensions reports as expected - the same as on other platforms - but if I put two printouts on top of each other on a lightbox, the mac one is scaled up, mostly horizontally.

It seems it can't find the textfield because it is in movieclips. I know I shouldn't work with the '_root' command but in my project it doesn't matter. Also tried making '_root' globalmain to 'this'. But that still doesn't do the trick.

I have a dynamic textfield that loads text from a txt file. The content of the txt file will be modified daily by the client.What i need is that if there is too much text in the txt file, the dynamic textfield resizes (and not only with autosize because the text can be really long).[code]it doesnt look very good but it works. The only problem is that if I have a really long text the maxsizeY doesnt work fine.

I basically want the movieclip to be a tight container (the same size as the textfield) for the Textfield. The below does not work. How can I do this?

I'm dynamically creating a navigational menu using a movieclip I've created that contains a textField. I want to change the text color of the TextField in the movieclip when a mouseover is performed. I referred to the movieclip from an external class and have the linkage setup for it.
However, no matter what I try to do to instanciate the text field inside it, I keep getting:
Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.
Now I really want to have this dynamic textfield inside the movieclip because it's part of a preloader so I don't just want to addChild to the stage. So Now I think I can't just build it.
I've been working on this all afternoon long and can't seem to shake this error.
I can't seem to make this clip disappear. I've tried calling it from it's parent object and also tried putting this.removeMovieClip(); inside the clip itself, but it just won't go. I don't have the same problem with other clips in the movie. This is the only one that has a dynamic text field, but I don't see why that would make a dif.

Now it shows just the background of the movieclip (so that gets loaded on stage), the title-field stays empty (although I embedded the font), only the content-field is showing the dummy content I put in in flash.
I have a dynamic text field which is just one line of text. For some reason letters like g or p that go below the regular line of text get cut off. I have made the field bigger, and also played around with the _height Property but it doesn't make a difference. I have imported the font into the Library. When I embed it the font doesn't cut off but looks very different. And if I change the field to a static field it doesn't cut off either, but the font looks a little different as well.

It worked fine until today. 3 different dynamic text fields suddenly do not show text when I set the text from actionscript This is what I tried:
1) Tried with and without text embedding
2) Turned on and off html
3) Tried with .text and .htmlText
4) Removed the TextField and added a new one
5) Added static text into the dynamic TextField and did not add the dynamic text with actionscript --> the initial text appeared I am working with CS3 and recently updated. I am considering deleting Flash and not running the update.
I'm wondering whether it's possible to generate alias text in dynamic textfields, similar to setting text to "Bitmap text" when doing so manually. If so how would it be coded? I don't see any TextFormat properties that allow for such a thing.

I have no problem dynamically loading text if I place a textField on the stage but I can't seem to get the following to work using the createTextField. I shortened my code to make it easier to read and still show what I am trying to do. Also I can I place the text within the BlueMenu or only on top of it? Is so how?

I have a Flex custom BorderContainer component which has text inside of it. If I were to add this in my main Application inside of a panel, the BorderContainer goes outside of the width bounds of the panel due to the text being a set size. I have all of its components in percentages so that it re-sizes when shrunk, but the one part that contains checkboxes and labels (lots of things with text) mess up since the font size doesn't change.
I am pretty positive that the results I am looking for can be done through embedding the font, though I have not been able to come up with a solution from online. I am trying to do this with a CSS style since I will be using it for many different components (I dont just want to change it in the flex code directly).
EDIT Solution:
I attempted to use the ratio as www0z0k had suggested but it caused some serious issues when it was re-sized quickly or to a small screen (the component would not re-size correctly because it was multiplying by the ratio. What finally seems to have worked for me and caused no issues was that I ran the code and found the width (1152) and height (842) of the container.
I then created a const variable of widthX = 1152 and heightY = 842 and in the onResize() function I coded the resize like this:
(where bottomGroup is the id of the borderContainer I am trying to resize)

I want to be able to apply non-style attributes to sections of text in a TextField. For example characters 30-45 will be set to animate in a certain direction.
As this field is editable characters 30-45 may no longer be at 30-45 if the text is edited in any way.
way to keep track of which characters had the attributes applied to them?
