Flash :: TextFieldAutoSize And TextWidth?

I'm trying to draw a background to a text field in AS3.I have a TextField with an embedded font and using autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT. I assign the text to the TextField then call try to draw a roundedRect using the textWidth of the TextField. The text field width is always smaller than the actual text width.Is there another way to get the actual textwidth? I did a few quick google searched but I haven't found anything.

I have a set of textfields that as I add text to them I want the right side of the text field to stay stationary and the left side of the textfield to automatically grow.now matter how I set it tho (.LEFT, .CENTER, .RIGHT) the left side is always stationary and the right side always grows??)

I have two text fields TextField1 and TextField2. I basically copy the text from TextField1 to TextField2 with actionscript on textChange. I notice that with TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT on, the TextField2 automatically puts in line-break after some characters. how is this default width changed for a TextField, so that the line break comes after specified characters only ?

I have a class that will not run in Flash CS4
myLabel.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.CENTER
I have tried everything to get it to work, here is the code, I am running it from flash with a class called main, if i comment the culprit line it the rest of it works.

I'm currently creating an app which allows users to select blocks of text from a List and dynamically create a TextField on the stage.I'm calculating the height of the TextField and positioning the next TextField beneath.I'm also recording the total heights of the TextFields so that I know when the total height exceeds the available height, at which point I move the x position and reset to y position to zero.When the next TextField will exceed the available height I want to split it into two, so I'm calculating the remaining height, making the TextField.height into the remaining height.My problem arrives when I try to get the position of the last visible line.If I have the TextFieldAutoSize as LEFT, then I can dynamically generate the heights of the TextFields.For the final TextField in the column I need to set TextFieldAutoSize to NONE so I can change the height of the TextField. i.e. I don't want it to autosize.However, bottomScrollV returns the total number of lines, not the last visible line.I can create the required behaviour in a separate doc but when I copy the code into the loop it fails. I have a dynamic text box on my stage that is 400px wide. The text box is being populated with flashvars data from an HTML file and auto-sizes (myTextBox.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT) so it will display all content by expanding when the text spans over 400px. But when I trace 'myTextBox.width', it always returns '400'and when I trace 'myTextBox.textWidth' it always returns '0'no matter how much text I push into it through the flashvars.
This is because the trace is only tracing the previewed swf in Flash which has no ties whatsoever to the HTML file and flashvars.Therefore, when previwing the swf, my text box is always empty.The only way to see the content populating the text box is when actually launching the browser with the swf embedded in it.Because of this I cannot seem to be get flash to 'do things' based on the new width/textWidth values of my text box after it has been populated with the flashvars data from the HTML file.How can I get flash to detect the new width/textWidth of my text box after it has been populated by the flashvars data from the HTML file?

I create various movieClips with TextFields in them using the following function.

Lets say that I use the above function with the following statement:
JimMC = AddLabel("JimVision",1);
Then I try to assign a string to the above movieClip with some embedded html like so:
JimMC.txt.htmlText = "This is my test < a href='[URL]'>link</ a>.";
When I try to run the above the results come out blank. When I list my variables I do see that my TextField is being assign the text and html code. What I also notice is that the textWidth and textHeight value become zero. Why my results are blank? Why do the textWidth and textHeight values become zero?

I have a movieclip, with a dynamic text inside.This movieclip is already on stage.I have found several solutions to this TextFieldAutoResize, however, most of them requires to create a new text before implementing TextFieldAutoResize.LEFT or right or center or .... etcIs there any method to apply auto resize on dynamic text which are already placed on stage?

I'm trying to autosize my combobox, according to the textWidth of its biggest items. I've got the right textWidth without setting the textFormat, but by setting textFormat, with a bigger font size (like 30), the textWidth stays the same !

I've got a dynamic text field. It has text in it. I can trace "myTextBox.textWidth" and it returns 154. I'm publishing to Flash 6, but if I change to Flash 9, the trace returns 139. Any ideas why this is behaving inconsistently when changing publish settings? Any ideas how I can make this NOT happen?

I'm working through Dreamweaver fairly well, and I'm now wanted to import Flash buttons I've created myself into Dreamweaver for a website I'm currently building, and it's here that I'm finding the problem. I have been to the 'get URL Function', but it says something about needing to link to a web page? But my problem is how can I link Flash Buttons to a web page, when my site is still being developed and not published? Do I have to publish first?

:confused:Does anybody know is Flash mx 2004 compatible with flash CS3 and flash 8?? I can not open flash cs3 on my laptop with flash mx2004 also can actionscript 3.0 be used with flash mx2004 and flash 8 because when I save my flash cs3 document as a flash 8 document it does not work? I am awful confused with all this. If you created a flash website in flash 8 or Flash mx2004 you can not open in in flash cs3 it dosent make sence?

Are there any programs or features in flash that can simplify flash vector art?
I just realized that one of the reasons why my program might be running so slow is that I made the images out of lots and lots of circles. When things didn't look right I often just put larger circles over smaller ones. I didn't think that flash might still be drawing the invisible circles underneath-

We've got a green screened video playing in a flash movie over top of our html content.when the movie ends, flash uses external interface .api to call a javascript function which swaps the flash movie out with a 5 x 5 pixel flash movie (rewrites the <div>).this works and you can interact with the html content after the flash movie in all browsers except firefox.anyone know of any work-arounds or is there a better way of handling flash over html in this fashion?

I have absolutely no idea where to post about this, please move if necessary.So, I've just installed flash player 10 and now my flash tracer plugin (in firefox) won't work. do i have to switch back to flash player 9 or is there a solution to this?
i have the correct path in Flash Tracer's settings (C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorApplication DataMacromediaFlash PlayerLogsflashlog.txt) as well as the mm.cfg file in C:Documents and SettingsAdministrator.

We are developing our app in flash/flex builder for the front end hitting .NET backend webservices. There is one section of the old app that will not be initially converted, so we need have it appear in an iFrame.
So far all that works fine.We shrink the size of the SWF in the host page to just be the menu/nav area. And underneat that I have an iframe control that loads in this page from the old site.Now the problem. in the SWF is a drop down list to enable picking a client. Since the SWF has been shrunk to about 100px high, the drop-down will only occupy within that 100px area which it's opened. This is NOT good as you can imagine. How can I make the drop-down list descend over-top of the IFRAME control and thus extend outside the SWF dimensions? Is this possible?
I tried to make the internal stage transparent and leave the SWF a little larger, about 400 px high, but the IFRAME still appears behind the SWF.

Is the Flash Video (or Flex VideoDisplay) component capable of seeking to an exact moment in a video?It seems to always 'snap' to keyframes (which is understandable). I'm just wondering if there are any mechanisms in the video classes for seeking to exact frames, ie it should do the translation from keyframe to specific frame in the background rather than having to actually play the video forward to the desired frame.This is not a streaming file and has nothing to do with buffering. The player is just downloading a movie file from the web and playing it from memory.
