I have two text fields TextField1 and TextField2. I basically copy the text from TextField1 to TextField2 with actionscript on textChange. I notice that with TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT on, the TextField2 automatically puts in line-break after some characters. how is this default width changed for a TextField, so that the line break comes after specified characters only ?

I'm trying to draw a background to a text field in AS3.I have a TextField with an embedded font and using autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT. I assign the text to the TextField then call try to draw a roundedRect using the textWidth of the TextField. The text field width is always smaller than the actual text width.Is there another way to get the actual textwidth? I did a few quick google searched but I haven't found anything.

I have a set of textfields that as I add text to them I want the right side of the text field to stay stationary and the left side of the textfield to automatically grow.now matter how I set it tho (.LEFT, .CENTER, .RIGHT) the left side is always stationary and the right side always grows??)

I'm currently creating an app which allows users to select blocks of text from a List and dynamically create a TextField on the stage.I'm calculating the height of the TextField and positioning the next TextField beneath.I'm also recording the total heights of the TextFields so that I know when the total height exceeds the available height, at which point I move the x position and reset to y position to zero.When the next TextField will exceed the available height I want to split it into two, so I'm calculating the remaining height, making the TextField.height into the remaining height.My problem arrives when I try to get the position of the last visible line.If I have the TextFieldAutoSize as LEFT, then I can dynamically generate the heights of the TextFields.For the final TextField in the column I need to set TextFieldAutoSize to NONE so I can change the height of the TextField. i.e. I don't want it to autosize.However, bottomScrollV returns the total number of lines, not the last visible line.I can create the required behaviour in a separate doc but when I copy the code into the loop it fails. I've some components with dynamic heights. They have to be aligned with respect to the bottom of my canvas container, so I cannot set the same y for all components.
I could compute their heights and successively set the y but I was wondering if there was an easier way to do it.

My vision is to have a colored square at the top of the site Im working on which should span across the entire browser window. I have created a square 1280 x 100 pixels in size and imported it to the stage, alignment is set to x=0, y=0 ad alignment. The scene is the same size as the square I 've imported. When I view my Flash creation its displayed 8 pixels from the top left corner of the browser window. The flash file only contains the square and nothing else. take a look at the 3 files I've attached: issue-scrreen1-3.jpg. The first 2 screens are my Flash, properties and library screen shots. The third screen shot is my browser window.

1. I created an mc (name: "content")Notice in this mc, I layout 4 sets of text (like a page) from left to right
2. I created another mc (name: "pancontent_mc")
-I added a layer for "content" and created a motion tween for it to pan from left to right
-I created a mask layer on top of "content" that will show 1 set at a time
-I created an action layer that has total of 4 stops(); on each frame where the 4 sets of text will show directly under the mask.
3. maintimeline -There's only 1 layer. I placed an instance of buttons (left/right) and an instance of "pancontent_mc"
4. actions for right button, works fine and stops on each set of text.

I'm trying to work out how to create a simple demo that works as follows: A ball falls from the top of the stage.Player is able to draw a line anywhere on the stage. The ball will bounce/roll along the line such that the player can guide it at will. I don't think the coordinate rotation will be a problem for me but I can't figure out how to transform a line drawn by the player into a hit detectable sprite -- or realkly any way that I can get those line coordinates into my coordinate rotation routine. To keep it simple, I'm just working on the first part of the problem, getting the line to where I can hit test or know its position.Here is my code so far:

It always traces 0,0 instead of my current line coordinates - and even those I don't think would be sufficient.
in Flash CS4 I have static text like: Line1 and line2 It's in 9 point Arial Regular as a device font. If I set the line spacing below 3.9 the second line dissappears from the compiled SWF file. It still shows in the FLA file. The same thing happens at 6pt but NOT at 5pt or less.

View 5 RepliesI'm in the process of teaching myself the components of the CS4 Design Premium package using the Adobe Classroom in a Book series. I'm currently going through the Flash CIAB and i've started using the pen tool. The task involves creating a wave like design across the stage. Whilst this in itself is simple, the final instruction is to click on the first anchor point to close the shape. In the illustration, the closed shape seems to automatically extend around the stage, however when I click on the first anchor point, the line automatically connects between the two points in a straight line.
Am I doing something wrong? The next step is to fill this area, but with the straight line effect that I am getting, this becomes impossible. I should point out that the instruction states that the pen tool line should extend off the stage. I have done this, but even then on clicking on the first anchor point the shape is closed incorrectly.
I am trying to dispatch an event but not sure when I should do it to get the right results. The first event "submitClicked" is in the right spot and works great. However, the second event "dataReady" seems like it might be a problem. I need it to be dispatched after this.compiledFormData is set.Does AS3 wait for each line of code in a function to be executed before moving on to the next line?

I am using Flex 4 and AS3 and I am trying to make it so that the user can draw a freehand line with the cursor - I have this part done.However, I also need the line to be a dashed line instead of one solid line like it is now. below is my code I am using. I have found some examples on how to do this, but they are all for straight lines, not for a freehand line.

When a Dynamic Multiple line text field is used in Flash CS3, it has a very annoying feature that auto inserts a line break at the end of inserted text. It also auto inserts a line break if no text is entered too.
I'm having a problem with this because the text is being saved from flash to a text file on the desktop. With every multi-line text field there's a nasty looking line break.
Any way of "turning off" this auto-line-break-at-the-end feature?
I need to replace multiple contiguous new line/line feed characters in flex with a single new line character.
Example:
The string
"My name is blah blah
My name is blah
"
Should be converted to
"My name is blah blah
My name is blah
"
Hope the example makes it easier to understand.
I am using a component to render it.
I guess using regex would be the easiest way to do this, but still it would be great if people can point me out to references/examples to get this done with ease.
