IDE :: TextWidth And Html Formmated Text?
May 14, 2009I have trouble detecting width of html formatted text,I am using textWidth property, but it looks like it gives width of default formatted text, not detecting html formating.

Sep 8, 2010I have a dynamic text box on my stage that is 400px wide. The text box is being populated with flashvars data from an HTML file and auto-sizes (myTextBox.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT) so it will display all content by expanding when the text spans over 400px. But when I trace 'myTextBox.width', it always returns '400'and when I trace 'myTextBox.textWidth' it always returns '0'no matter how much text I push into it through the flashvars.
This is because the trace is only tracing the previewed swf in Flash which has no ties whatsoever to the HTML file and flashvars.Therefore, when previwing the swf, my text box is always empty.The only way to see the content populating the text box is when actually launching the browser with the swf embedded in it.Because of this I cannot seem to be get flash to 'do things' based on the new width/textWidth values of my text box after it has been populated with the flashvars data from the HTML file.How can I get flash to detect the new width/textWidth of my text box after it has been populated by the flashvars data from the HTML file?

Feb 10, 2011I'm trying to draw a background to a text field in AS3.I have a TextField with an embedded font and using autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT. I assign the text to the TextField then call try to draw a roundedRect using the textWidth of the TextField. The text field width is always smaller than the actual text width.Is there another way to get the actual textwidth? I did a few quick google searched but I haven't found anything.

Lets say that I use the above function with the following statement:
JimMC = AddLabel("JimVision",1);
Then I try to assign a string to the above movieClip with some embedded html like so:
JimMC.txt.htmlText = "This is my test < a href='[URL]'>link</ a>.";
When I try to run the above the results come out blank. When I list my variables I do see that my TextField is being assign the text and html code. What I also notice is that the textWidth and textHeight value become zero. Why my results are blank? Why do the textWidth and textHeight values become zero?

Jun 30, 2010I have a piece of Flash on an HTML page that when you hover over it, it expands out to reveal more information.There are text links that it expands over, however in everything but IE, when it's not expanded those links are still covered by the Flash making them unclickable.I have the Flash piece in a separate DIV wmode set to transparent.

If I just display regular text it works or if I change the textArea element to a RichEditableText element it works fine. Since this is for a mobile app I would prefer to use the textArea element as recommended by Adobe.Here is the MXML code for the textArea. All I get is the border and no content displayed.

Dec 11, 2009I've got a dynamic text field. It has text in it. I can trace "myTextBox.textWidth" and it returns 154. I'm publishing to Flash 6, but if I change to Flash 9, the trace returns 139. Any ideas why this is behaving inconsistently when changing publish settings? Any ideas how I can make this NOT happen?

May 8, 2009I have a text field component that I am dynamically populating with text. The words appear one letter at a time in a teleprinter style fashion. I also have rendered certain words with HTML to make style changes within the text.Now all this works fine, except because the HTML text is larger than the body of the other text, I am losing theteleprintereffect at the bottom of the text field. In other words, after a set amount has been printed, users are not seeing the letters printed out one at a time, but instead just get a printed line of text appear from beneath the visible section of the text window.

Oct 26, 2010I'm trying to use a dynamic text field to pull in html text that contains a bulleted list. Easy enough, that works. But the bullets dont take on the color assigned to the field. I've tried putting it in the html text and also using NewTextFormat and neither work. Can someone help me. This should be a simple fix, but I can't find it... I just want my text and bullets to both be white.

Flex :: Text Htmltext Missing Out/cutting The Full Html Text?
Feb 12, 2011I am trying to implement htmlText for a text component as the returned string is in html format (with the html tags etc). If I put a text=.... i get the full text, but with the tags (which i want converted to html). So i use htmlText=.... and it formats it fine, but cuts half the text from the variable. The text im supposed to get back has tons of html tags, and maybe its cutting it somewhere because of the tag its not able to escape... How do i fix this?

Apr 8, 2009I am using a dynamic text field to show html formatted text from .txt files. I have set the html property both in the properties panel and in AS, and it mostly works. All html formatting show up just fine, except for when "&" is used. Flash CS3 documentation indicates that & is supported, so.? All text after the & does not appear: the only text loaded is that that comes before it. I am using CS3, AS2, publishing in Flash Player 9. Sorry if this problem has been addressed elsewhere, but I've had no luck with my searches.

If not I know theres is the load feature where I can load text from a text file. With the html text box editing, Can i link that to the text file?. As in when you edit the text box with html could i have the textbox's instance name equal to the text file? With this my issue is with the <a href> in one textbox, I would like when i click those it open another text file in a different text box.
Clarification: I have two text boxes in my flash file.One has current products. And the other is the description of the product they select. I would like a way to edit and change the products in the first text box without having to keep using the FLA file. Which is why i am using this code

Aug 8, 2011It's what this image describes:For some reason, I cannot use bold tags to set the TLF text to bold, even though both the regular and bold fonts are embedded.so that the webpage that embeds this movie can call its function (otherwise the movie itself will be wrapped by TLF).his is not exactly a question since there is an obvious solution to this. Just set the htmlText as something like "<font face='Myriad Web Pro'><b>BOLD</b></font>" and you're done.hs issue is, why does it not render the bold text without the font tag in the first place, if I have already set the font of the TLF text in the PI?

Jul 4, 2009I'm building this flash site for a friend and he wants to be able to edit the contents and maintain the site by himself later on. So naturally, I used a dynamic text field that uses URLloader to link to an external html, dandy. Problem is, my friend wants to use dreamweaver to edit the contents of html (or even just a word document exported as html) and it's just driving him nuts because the text look nothing like that way it did in DW when it's loaded into the dynamic text field (extra spacing and line break popping up randomly everywhere). Is there an alternative solution other then telling him to just edit it in notepad? What if I switch over to XML?

Jul 5, 2010I have a linked movieclip that contains two textfields.One of the textfields needs to have regular and bold text, so I thought I would use htmlText however it's only showing the regular font that I embedded?I made the textfield in Flash and called it "details".I also tried to make another textField in the symbol called, "invisi" and I set it not visible:invisi.visible = false;I embedded the BOLD version of the font in the invisi textfield, hoping this would make the "details" text field show the bold font...but no luck.

Feb 3, 20101. I added a text box to my frame, set it to Dynamic Text, then clicked "Render Text as HTML".
2. If I type <div>Test</div> into the text box and hit Ctrl-Enter, it displays the text "<div>Test</div>"
3. Same thing if I enter <a href="#">Test</a>
The text is not rendered as HTML...
Tried importing an XML into the Dynamic Text box: same results. Tried HTMLEncoding the values as <div> and it says <div>.
Perhaps the "Render Text as HTML" means HTMLencoding. Anyone know how to set it to "render the HTML tags"?

Feb 14, 2010I am creating an online order form in Flash, and there is a phrase which says: I accept the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy The words 'Terms of Use' and 'Privacy Policy' are supposed to be underlined and if you click on them you are linked to termsofuse.html and privacypolicy.html. Is it possible to create an invisible button which is placed over the these words? Or can you link the pages directly to the words?
