Recently struggling with weird IE9 + Flash problem I came over multiple advices to use classid and codebase attributes specifically for IE. But couldn't find any explanation of why they might be required or what they simply do. Any good writeup on this topic anywhere? Side-question: Can I just make classid value up out of my head or it should be generated according to some rules?
I have this situation where i'm trying to save "chat logs" while people switch around views in my flex mobile application..so, my plan is i'm starting out with a main object that I plan to re-use as the main chat log object..I call it textObjso, when someone new wants to chat my plan is to make a new object with the persons username.so how if i were to get the username from something like data.username how could I translate that into the var name of the object I want to make? So in the end i end up with.[code]
I've got a php backend which delivers a time (e.g. '07:00:00'). This time is recognized as a string but I need it as a Date. So what I need is: Convert a string '07:00:00' to a Flex Date object. Is there a way to do this (without using regular expressions)?
I am currently trying to create an app using flash AIR.I would like to find some more information on how to make an object snap to another ojbect then follow its path, eg. a person object is already on the stage, then drag an arrow to the object which snaps to it, then on play button it follows the arrow path. all in pure actionscript, no guide layers.
I am creating an object pool to cache some recyclable objects in memory at the outset of my application in order to avoid (as much as possible) the performance issues caused by GC running; if possible I'd like to minimize the memory my object pool reserves, so I'm attempting to pool generic forms of the objects (with no methods) and then casting the generic variants to more specific and complex object types which extend the generic form when I actually want them on the stage.
The trouble is that to do this requires the generic variant class to import/extend MovieClip (because the more complicated objects are themselves MovieClips and make use of DisplayObject methods)-- does simply importing and/or extending a class add to the memory an object takes up when instantiated even if it never uses methods from the inherited class? It makes sense that it would, and some light profiling seems to suggest that it does, but I'm not 100% certain. About how large should an 'empty' MovieClip instance be in bytes?
I'm about to implement public function writeExternal( output:IDataOutput ):void {...} public function readExternal( input:IDataInput ):void {...} to make a set of object serializable.
Although I'm pretty sure, that I implemented all correctly, readExternal(..) at a certain point complains about too few data left to read: RangeError: Error #2006: The supplied index is out of bounds. at flash.filesystem::FileStream/readObject()
I wonder, if I have a circular object network like A = { left -> B, right -> B } B = { father -> A } And I call writeObject( a ) Will Flex serialize the hole object network and each object once and only one?
I did this: Declared type annotations like this: [RemoteClass(alias="model.MyClass")] Implemented parameter-free constructors Declared all classes using implements IExternalizable SharedObject's send() method is guaranteed to send each object once and only once.
Additional infos: Reading and writing a ByteArray Using Remote Object Components IExternalizable interface
I am encountering a problem in my app only when it is run in flash player 10.1.85.3. Some earlier player versions I have tried are working fine.From what I can tell it seems related to the following:

When searching for objects (not strings) in Dictionary objects using the 'in' operator, if the object is not found in the Dictionary object, it will be searched for in the delegate objects. With 10.1, the toString operator will be called on the Object if not found in the Dictionary. This can cause problems with Proxy objects who need to define the callProperty function or it will generate a RTE. ...what it means "it will be searched for in the delegate objects"?
How can i cast a object to another type? in AS3 i tried putting (objectType) infront of the variable but it doesnt work, below i have added objects of fishes into the child, and i am getting the fishes back out when mouse down is triggered, and then calling the fishes what to do. however i cant call the method of the custom class fish because it is a displayobject.[code]...
i am currently having trouble with my object rotating to face another object.currently it works fine as in this picture, my object at the origin will be able to rotate and move to the object in the 3 quadrants except the quadrant with positive 90degrees to 180 degrees, my object will rotate a few full rotation for some time while moving to the object does anyone know why? the sentence that i use to rotate is rotation += (foodLocationDegrees - (rotation - 90)) * .2; whereby food is calculated using
I'm trying to create a boundary for a player object, controlled with arrow keys, in my game using the main stage's height and width. For example, one test point is at the top edge of the player object's bounding box so that when the player object's head touches the stage's top edge, the player can't move anymore to the north. The player object is manually instantiated to the center of the stage by using the Flash stage editor so it will start at the center before the program starts.The problem is that right at the start of the program, I can no longer move the player object up or down with the arrow keys but I can still move it left or right. The intention is to allow the player to move north until the player object's head touches the top edge of the main stage.[code]
I am trying to do a apply a tween for the width property on a MovieClip Object but every time it changes the width and the position too, and I don't want that. I want to change the width going to one side without changing the x and y of the object.
I tried both of thes and they gave the same result.
var c:Tween = new Tween(left, "scaleX", Strong.easeOut, 1, 1.5,20,true); var c:Tween = new Tween(left, "width", Strong.easeOut, 20, 200,20,true);
I think it is applying the transformation according to a center of the movie clip. but I don't know how it can be changed.
I have an object that points in the direction of another object (i.e. it rotates to the direction that the second objects x and y coordinates are at) below is the code I use.
var distx = target.x - x; var disty = target.y - y; var angle:Number = Math.atan2(disty, distx);
[code]....
as you can see. Not only does it rotate towards the target object, but it also moves towards it too. When I play the movie, the object instantly points to the targeted object and moves towards it. I would like for it to slowly turn towards the object instead of instantly turning towards it.
currently i have a function in which my object fish will move to a food i am having trouble getting it to rotate nicely to the food currently my function is as below.if the food is above the fish my fish rotation is 0 which is facing up, if the food is below my fish i will give it a rotation of 180 which will make it face down , however the rotation is too sudden it does not give a nice and realistic effect of rotating to the food.how can i make it when rotating to move some distance and at the same time rotate? because it cant rotate to the food in the same spot as it would not be realistic.
public function moveToFood():void { var foodTarget:Food = fishArray[fishArray.length - 1];
I'm working on a project which allowing end users to embed a flash in their own HTML pages while we offer different ways so user could choose one that works for their circumstances, for example, most blogs doesn't welcome users to inject JavaScript on their pages, therefore SWFObject wouldn't be possible, we offered two other ways: IFrame and the oldie but goodie Object/Embed pair. Just like old Youtube embedding code:
I'm making a point-and-click game in Flash and the goal of the game is to click on the right objects in a room. Say, if the main character says 'find my chair', and the player clicks on the chair, it's the good object and an audio file plays. If the player clicks on a spoon, it's the wrong object and an audio file plays. My question is: how can I do that in Flash (in ActionScript, right)? I've made a different layer for each object.
I have been trying to build a simple shooter game in which the player is moving forward constantly (to simulate flying), but can turn left or right to avoid objects. What I want to do is to have the airplane fixed in place so that when the player presses the keys to turn, the rest of the objects on the screen rotate around the player.[code]
The problem is that the object seems to jump back and forth 180 degrees constantly. The object moves at a good speed around the player, in a full circle, but I can't for the life of me figure out why the object is jumping back and forth.Just to break down the code: given the fixed position of the player and the position of the object, the distance between the two is calculated as the radius. The x and y difference between the two is then used to figure out the angle in radians that the two points make. The angle is added to by a set increment, multiplied by 1 or -1 (xSp) to give it a direction. Given the increment, the new angle can then be used to figure out the adjusted position of the object using Math.sin and Math.cos.
So I have this Photo class than handles loading a pic, and dispatches an event when the loading is done with:[code]which is simple and works, but now I'd like to make something more advanced. I'd like to dispatch the load ratio.So far I have extended the Event class, with my own EventRatio class, and I can put properties on that class. Which is cool, but I need something more dynamic than just sending a fixed value.So, what is the best way to connect the Loader object of the Photo object, with the EventRatio object?
We are developing our app in flash/flex builder for the front end hitting .NET backend webservices. There is one section of the old app that will not be initially converted, so we need have it appear in an iFrame.
So far all that works fine.We shrink the size of the SWF in the host page to just be the menu/nav area. And underneat that I have an iframe control that loads in this page from the old site.Now the problem. in the SWF is a drop down list to enable picking a client. Since the SWF has been shrunk to about 100px high, the drop-down will only occupy within that 100px area which it's opened. This is NOT good as you can imagine. How can I make the drop-down list descend over-top of the IFRAME control and thus extend outside the SWF dimensions? Is this possible?
I tried to make the internal stage transparent and leave the SWF a little larger, about 400 px high, but the IFRAME still appears behind the SWF.
I need to catch a hover event on top of a flash object, so I set the wmode and created an invisible div on top of it to attach the event listeners to. Thing is, I can't click the flash object. The cover is swallowing the clicks, and the things I've tried to go around this have made a mess of the hover events. This is the 30th problem I ran into in 2 days time and it's driving me crazy xD.
I apologize beforehand but this probably isn't directly related to flash. However I'm not sure exactly which front-end code would deal with this and thought flash developers might know something about it.Is it possible to tilt a flash object in the browser window without altering anything in flash?I've tried googling it but I've either word it badly or received more hits on cellphones than on flash.
I just started an open source project @ Google Code. I came up with this simple notation for a recent project. I have since used it on several projects and am happy to share it with anyone else who might benefit. I could also use a hand with the documentation and also features if anyone is interested in helping out. Take a look and feel free to provide feedback. [URL]
When I use MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT the target is [object MovieClip], but when I use MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT I get [object Bildspel] - and Bildspel is my class. The thing is that when I use ROLL_OUT I'm not able to delete the targets ENTER_FRAME event.
