I frequently get the term "Dependency Injection" in a AS3 book i am reading. However, it's has not explained what exactly it is. May anyone pls exhibit what exactly it is using some lines of AS3.0 code ?
View 1 RepliesI think I'm still trying to understand Dependency Injection and the role of the DI container. If DI means a lower level component depends on a higher level one, and there's no circular reference, won't that object get garbage collected? As I see garbage collection (mark-and-sweep), it keeps only the objects that can be traced with a chain of references starting from the program root.
Since I'm having difficulty explaining myself, here are two UML diagrams, which present conflicting views of Dependency Injection, as I see it: My original interpretation of DI
The DI Container injects components with their required references, and they each store a reference to their next-highest-in-command. The Main class has no way of reaching them, so they should be garbage collected. I have a SWF that I wish to debug on with the flash debugger. I have the debug flash player and the 'Debugger' context menu option is greyed out. If I check the 'Permit debugging' option in the SWF publish settings, this does not become enabled.
My hunch is that this is down to the fact that my SWF is being loaded by another parent SWF. Before I embark on a potentially large job to republish this parent SWF, I wanted to gauge whether it was worth it by determining:
Does the parent SWF also need debugging permitted?
Is it only the parent SWF? Or do all SWFs in the scene need to be published with the same settings, no matter where they appear in relation to the target debug SWF?
Are there any other reasons for the debugger option being unavailable to me in my movie?
I have this code for my timer, it counts down alright. BUT it is very buggy it most commonly counts down by 2 when it is meant to count down by one I have even watched my brother play our game and it went fron 20 to 7

If this can't be done directly what about loading in the html code from a page, to have this render? As you can see its just an add rotator that my friend has from some software he bought that allows him to track and other things I guess. Its only going to display images or swf's, and no text at all.The code gets dished out through 4 types of code bases.
1- JS Inject (listed above).
2- AJAX, which is the same as above, or almost the same.
3- PHP Remote Read Code
4- PHP Insert Code
Is there a known app (demo or otherwise) to generate a dependency graph of all projects linked to a given project. Typically these dependencies are seen in the Eclipse-->Flex Project-->Properties-->Flex Build Path. Graph is expected to funnel thru' all the way into these dependencies until the leaf has none.

I just started working with ant a few days ago. Right now I have a general buildall.xml which should call each project's build.xml. Because some projects depend on each other, I need to rebuild some other projects which depend on it. This isn't a problem--I'm just setting the depends property of the target. However, ant is always building the dependencies, even when the files haven't changed.Let's say project1 has no dependencies; project2 depends on project1; project3 depends on project1, 2; project4 depends on project1, 2, and 3; and so on.I could hack a solution which looks at project K, and checks if project 1 .. project K have updated files using uptodate. If so, then run the target. This is messy and appears unnecessary.
What is the cleanest way to implement this?EDIT: So I decided to just hack in a bunch of targets, "check_projectK" where it does the uptodate checks on all of its source files, its build file, and the build files of the 1 .. K-1 projects. Due to dependencies, this is always handled correctly. However, this is still a large amount of copy and paste for a large workspace.
I'm working through Dreamweaver fairly well, and I'm now wanted to import Flash buttons I've created myself into Dreamweaver for a website I'm currently building, and it's here that I'm finding the problem. I have been to the 'get URL Function', but it says something about needing to link to a web page? But my problem is how can I link Flash Buttons to a web page, when my site is still being developed and not published? Do I have to publish first?

I just realized that one of the reasons why my program might be running so slow is that I made the images out of lots and lots of circles. When things didn't look right I often just put larger circles over smaller ones. I didn't think that flash might still be drawing the invisible circles underneath-
When I call a .php file from flash and then echo a value back to flash from said .php file flash does not read it. My code is like this:

We've got a green screened video playing in a flash movie over top of our html content.when the movie ends, flash uses external interface .api to call a javascript function which swaps the flash movie out with a 5 x 5 pixel flash movie (rewrites the <div>).this works and you can interact with the html content after the flash movie in all browsers except firefox.anyone know of any work-arounds or is there a better way of handling flash over html in this fashion?

View 2 RepliesWe are developing our app in flash/flex builder for the front end hitting .NET backend webservices. There is one section of the old app that will not be initially converted, so we need have it appear in an iFrame.
So far all that works fine.We shrink the size of the SWF in the host page to just be the menu/nav area. And underneat that I have an iframe control that loads in this page from the old site.Now the problem. in the SWF is a drop down list to enable picking a client. Since the SWF has been shrunk to about 100px high, the drop-down will only occupy within that 100px area which it's opened. This is NOT good as you can imagine. How can I make the drop-down list descend over-top of the IFRAME control and thus extend outside the SWF dimensions? Is this possible?
I tried to make the internal stage transparent and leave the SWF a little larger, about 400 px high, but the IFRAME still appears behind the SWF.

I'm just wondering if there are any mechanisms in the video classes for seeking to exact frames, ie it should do the translation from keyframe to specific frame in the background rather than having to actually play the video forward to the desired frame.This is not a streaming file and has nothing to do with buffering. The player is just downloading a movie file from the web and playing it from memory.

The story starts when one day, my boss asked me to make a flash presentation about their upcoming user training for a newly developed software. I was enthusiastic and excited about it because it's been a long time that I did not use Flash (note that I don't have any experience in ActionScript 3.0). At first, everything was a bit rough as I need to recall how to properly use the frames to create a successful animation. As I was about to finish the project, my boss approached me again and asked if I could insert a menu page in front so that the users won't have to replay the whole thing again just to look for a little something on that part of the movie. So yea, at first I was abit hesitant to accept. I said that it will work with Powerpoint. But she's a total pusher and I was forced to say yes. Now I'm having this problem about how to make a flash button load a swf movie.I've tried searching all over the net for tutorials but most of the times the "getUrl" and other stuff are said to be outdated.
View 1 RepliesI need to catch a hover event on top of a flash object, so I set the wmode and created an invisible div on top of it to attach the event listeners to. Thing is, I can't click the flash object. The cover is swallowing the clicks, and the things I've tried to go around this have made a mess of the hover events. I'm told this happens only in Firefox. And I believe only Flash player 8. Works fine with FF and Flash player 9, or IE with 8 or 9 I believe.
