Just wondering if anyone knows of a good italic serif font (like Georgia) that renders well in Flash at 10pt?I'm struggling to get anything looking sharp and crisp even with style set to Readability.
View 1 RepliesI googled this relentlessly, but was unable to find an answer. I have a font --- P22 Hopper (PC Postscript Type 1) --- that does not show up accuratly in Flash CS4. The font is script, but it shows up as a generic sans serif. I have inserted a screenshot to illustrate. Oddly, this font shows up perfectly in all other CS4 products and also works fine in Flash 8.

When creating new font from drop down menu there are only either bold or italic or other style, but how to embed font with all styles?
I am putting the finishing touches on an as3 project (developped in flex for code and flash cs4 to create the UI) and I am running into a mysterious font issue.
1) I am loading in a swf file with the font outlines (empty dynamic textfields with embedded characters on the stage. One text field for each regular / bold / italic / bold italic font styles).
2) I then load the swf and then in order to make sure that all font faces are properly available I list them in the output window with the following function:

I am using swf embed font[normal] in my flex application but if i apply bold or italic for the text,its looking normal only. let me know if you have any solution.
View 1 RepliesI have a client that I build a business card "builder" application for in Flex. All the text elements that users add to the stage are Flex spark TextArea. I have a list of fonts that we allow the user to set on the text areas and some of the fonts included do have Bold and Italic versions of the font. The others that do not I simply disable these options in the control panel so the user doesn't have the option to click bold or italic buttons.
Photoshop does something similar if you load a font that doesn't have Bold or Italic options they disable the dropdown that would allow you to select these options in the text pallet http://grab.by/bOTC
When bold and italic aren't an included font face then Photoshop as a couple of buttons for applying Faux Bold and Italic to the font. Basically they programmatically thicken up the font face or slat it to make it look italic.
I've tried just setting fontWeight and fontStyle on the fonts that don't have bold or italic included in the embedded fonts and the result usually is a "web safe" font shows instead of the selected font or nothing at all happens.
I am wondering if there is a programmatic way that anyone has found that will do this in Flash / Flex. Basically thicken the font face or tilt it slightly to look italic. My guess is this would be pretty difficult and not worth the time and effort to the client but would be a neat thing to figure out and have a solution for.
So this ActionScript 3 program I've been working on can'tseem to make up its mind regarding how to render block-levelelements. The first time it encounters a paragraph with a classI've defined as a block-level element, it renders correctly - witha line break before and after the paragraph. The second time thatit encounters the very same class, though, it leaves it as aninline element. I can't find any problems with my code, and I don'tknow what's going on here

sometimes when i load a webside in firefox, it fails to draw some of the elements that gets drawn early on in the flash file (4 squares and a background square, all movieclips), but other times it works perfectly. And it ONLY happens in firefox, as far as i know. I have tested it in Opera, Safari and Firefox on my mac. The other browsers loads the file perfectly.I use SWFObject, SWFFit and SWFAddress, if that can have any effect.i draw and do everything in AS3, i only have 2 Movieclips in my fla file, which i export to actionscript.

View 1 RepliesI've imported four fonts into the Library and used Linkage to enable Export for Actionscript. The fonts are the four versions of Trebuchet MS:
Trebuchet MS
Trebuchet MS Bold
Trebuchet MS Bold Italic
Trebuchet MS Italic
They are named like this in the Library and for example the 'Bold Italic' version has both 'bold' and 'italic' selected in its properties.
Then I drew a dynamic textfield and selected for it's font 'Trebuchet MS Bold Italic*' so that the embed font was used. I also embeded the glyphs for 'Basic Latin' and 'Latin 1'.
Then I used this code to fill it with text:

The text is placed, however, it is always in the Trebuchet MS regular font. Also when I click the bold and italic icons in the Property Bar, the font won't go bold/italic. The same for just bold and just italic. It only turns bold/italic when I delete all font symbols accept the Bold Italic one.

In the second chapter it teaches you how to integrate the login for to another app.Basically I'm looking for a book that teaches you real working application rather than abstract ideas. Programming language I have in mind is Adobe Air/Flex, Visual Basic. Functions I have in mind should at least cover Drag and Drops, Integration to a web form (form entry) and customizable interfaces.The languages i had in mind isn't fix. If you know a programming platform that has little code or easy to learn but still be able to develop a cool application.

In my application I'm using a custom embedded font for English (Helvetica New) which does not contain characters (glyphs) for chinese unicode range. In the application, wherver chinese characters are avaiable they are not displayed (suppressed) since they are missing in the custom embedded font. How can I make the flash player to use a fallback system font for the missing characters? And the fallback should be for the missing characters alone. For the Engligh characters it should use the embedded font.

I have a swf A, which contains no font.If I download into it the swf F1, which contains few characters of Arial, then I'll have the arial font embed into A, no problem with that.But if, then, I download the swf F2, which contains other characters of Arial into swf A, will I be able to use all the embed characters font, only the F2, or only the F1 ?I'd like to have a link to somewhere where this is explained, even in very technical terms : I wasn't able to find one.
EDIT : After few tests, it seems that the player replace the loaded font... How can I merge them, then ?
I need some help? Anyone experience this problem before with IE8 FLASH bug? Can not get this to work on all subsequent refresh to the flash. I have a flash piece which simply renders only on the first initial load. After that, if i refresh or visit the page, it does not load correctly. It seems I am having this problem with the swf only on subsequent loading of the page or whenever a refresh happens.

In other words, can embedded fonts be aliased?Using the bitmap-text option doesn't work, Flash tends to screw up a lot of the character spacing. I haven't found any pixel fonts that mimic Arial, Verdana and Tahoma accurately. Setting the stage quality to low does alias the fonts but they become fragmented.Using device fonts is an option but, as far as I understand, some browsers/operating systems will take it upon themselves to anti-alias the text.

Does anyone recommend a good Flash based program out there that will allow you to constuct an e commerce solution in both AS 2 or 3 . I know that is a lot to ask for but at this point I really need something that will not break my budget, I can use easily multiple times with different looks .

View 1 RepliesPoint me to a robust and well documented Date library for AS3. Specifically, I'd like one that works (at least in principal) like the Java date formatter, so that you can pass in a string of a specific type and get back a date object that can then be easily translated to an alternate timezone, etc. Working with the native Date object is an incredible PITA for when one needs to do things like this... I'm hoping I won't have to re-invent this wheel from scratch.

I guess that's the crux of my problem using Google, because there are vast quantities of how to do thing "the old way" out there, but I'm having trouble getting solid AS3/Flash9+ stuff.
