View 1 RepliesEssentially I want to set up a system where a I have a bunch of subclasses that all end up doing the same thing, so I declare a base class that has some pretty basic functions. Here is my code:
Code:
// BaseClass.as
package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
[Code]...
Each class that will extend the BaseClass has a 'mouth' movieclip inside of it, though I have not set up a movieclip for the BaseClass. It looks good in theory, but of course I get an error:
Code:BaseClass, 1120: Access of undefined property mouth 'Automatically declare stage instances' is checked, so I'm not sure what else to do here.
Looking for a programming book that is in tutorial approach. Example this chapter teaches you how to do a login form. In the second chapter it teaches you how to integrate the login for to another app.Basically I'm looking for a book that teaches you real working application rather than abstract ideas. Programming language I have in mind is Adobe Air/Flex, Visual Basic. Functions I have in mind should at least cover Drag and Drops, Integration to a web form (form entry) and customizable interfaces.The languages i had in mind isn't fix. If you know a programming platform that has little code or easy to learn but still be able to develop a cool application.

View 1 RepliesI'm implementing the RTMP-protocol for my bachelor thesis. I got through the handshake and application connect process and received the play-command from my client which is actually a jw player.But I now stuck with the audio and video-messages. I can't find something about the exactly built-up of these messages neither in the specification nor somewhere else.What should i do with the metadata and header of the flv-file? Can I send the whole tag and audio-/video-data from my file in the RTMP-audio- and video-messages?
View 1 RepliesDoes Flash have a way of emulating Hashsets or Hashmaps? If it doesn't, what is the best way of storing and quickly retrieving 10-100 thousand entries of data?
View 14 RepliesI am trying to convert our all-flash website to HTML 5.But since so many users still use IE and other browsers that do not support HTML 5 yet,I am looking for some flash media players that can replace <audio> and <video>. My google skill does not yield good results.The flash media player should dispatch events specified at https:[url]..._audio_and_video_in_FireFox (or at least talk to javascript some how for those events).Do you know a flash media player that can easily be embedded inside <audio> or <video> and talks to javascript for events?
View 2 RepliesI'm optimizing a PNG encoder for use within Flash SWFs (but I'm writing it in HaXe).I've so far managed to speed things up a fair bit, mostly by using speedy memory read/writes.While profiling my code, I noticed that about 75% of the time is spent in a single call to Flash's built-in compress() method, which uses the zlib algorithm (which uses DEFLATE in turn).I'm not too fussy about compression ratio, but faster compression would be awesome. So, I was wondering if it's worthwhile to try to implement zlib/DEFLATE myself. A little searching has turned up the zlibC.implementation source, but it's not exactly light reading (or easy to port!).Are there any simple implementations of zlib/DEFLATE that I could use as a starting point? I'd rather not have to wade through the two specs, especially since I don't know whether an implementation running in AVM2 could even perform as fast as the native Flash one in the first place.
View 3 RepliesDoes anyone know if there is a (preferably efficient :-) ) implementation of elliptic curve cryptography for ActionScript? The only library I know of is as3crypto, which offers great implementations for symmetric cryptography, hashing and several other cryptography-related operations, but it has only RSA for public key cryptography.
View 2 RepliesI just upgraded out Flex project to use SDK version 4.5.1.21328 and the Flash Builder to version 4.5
All of the sudden, I'm getting several red tags on the Flash Builder: "could not resolve s:State/fx:Script/whatever to a component implementation"
However, the project builds fine with Maven, and seems to work well too.
Does anyone have any information on how to remove these "problems"?
I've been wondering if it's possible to change the backend of the LLVM implementation from ARM to something else for instance C or C++? Currently Adobe uses a Actionscript3 frontend (which I can't currently find - closed source?) for the LLVM to produce iOS applications. I'm wondering why there isn't more options for other backends? Of course there are limitations to going this route, no loading of external swf files at runtime (to name just one), but the iOS applications seem to manage really well with this feat. I did find this pdf which talks about the AS3 LLVM frontend, but no guidance to where the code is or how to investigate... I just think it's a missed opportunity that Adobe are missing and wondered how much work it would be to do such a feat?
View 1 RepliesI have a client who will want an e commerce area for his site. Does anyone recommend a good Flash based program out there that will allow you to constuct an e commerce solution in both AS 2 or 3 . I know that is a lot to ask for but at this point I really need something that will not break my budget, I can use easily multiple times with different looks .
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to learn how to use flash, and there's only so much I can learn on my own. I looked up some books on various websites, but I don't know which would be the "best" to use for someone completely new to the program.
View 2 RepliesPoint me to a robust and well documented Date library for AS3. Specifically, I'd like one that works (at least in principal) like the Java date formatter, so that you can pass in a string of a specific type and get back a date object that can then be easily translated to an alternate timezone, etc. Working with the native Date object is an incredible PITA for when one needs to do things like this... I'm hoping I won't have to re-invent this wheel from scratch.
View 2 RepliesPretty straightforward. Open source is good, but organization and documentation is better. Actionscript 3 is a must, I don't really want to start working with the older versions. I guess that's the crux of my problem using Google, because there are vast quantities of how to do thing "the old way" out there, but I'm having trouble getting solid AS3/Flash9+ stuff.
View 6 RepliesIm finished with the essentials (I read and exercised AS3 Essentials from Moock) and now Im looking for a more advanced book/tutorial/guide/etc that covers deeply about AS3 game development.
View 2 RepliesHas anyone any good links to an flash poll tutorials?
I have looked at one on Activeden,One that shows a percentage of votes preferably
Just wondering if anyone knows of a good italic serif font (like Georgia) that renders well in Flash at 10pt?I'm struggling to get anything looking sharp and crisp even with style set to Readability.
View 1 RepliesWriting RTMP Streaming Server for streaming AVC+AAC video. And it works fine with rtmpdump. But I can't force it to work in flowplayer and other flash video players.The message sequence after handshake is similar to FMS / RED5 / erlyvideo / haxevideo servers: I've tried a lot of variations.
From Chrome debug console I can see, what all negotiating messages passed to the flowplayer. The last one is onMetaData. And after this the working sample (rtmp://flash.tvwmedia.net/LiveVideo//Live300) gets NetStream.Buffer.Full. And streaming from my server don't get it.
I'm starting with AVC Header message, containing sps/pps. After it first AVC picture passed. After - AAC header and AAC sample. And then AVC/AAC samples. This dumped OK by rtmpdump - I have working flv on exit. But flowplayer and others does not work.

What I'm wondering though is, are there any good resources out there for making games in Flash CS4. I know I'm going to get some "learn the basics first" replies, and yes I know I need to get a solid grounding in those, but I want to be able to start gathering resources, and look ahead to what I'll be able to do with Flash in the future. By resources I mean books, other websites, your own advice about game making, etc...

View 1 RepliesI'm wondering what the best flash pageflip template is?I prefer a free version but am willing to check out paid ones as well for sure.I'm looking for one that I can just load a PDF into and it will build it for me, ready to go with the template.I'm also open to any alternatives (such as a jQuery one) if there are better methods.This is a good example of one but I'm not sure how good it is and would like to be able to change the look of the.URL...
View 2 RepliesI am looking for a base to work on a presentation. I am using flash cs4. I know little of actionscript only so i just wondered if there are any template where i can just manage my content to make the presentation instead of coding from scratch. Is there any good site for downloading free flash presentation template?
View 1 RepliesI have a flash app which will send/receive a constant stream of data. The flash app should open a connection to the Java server, keep it open, and attempt to reconnect on socket failure. Are there any good APIs that offer this functionality? Smartfox Server is one option, but if I had my way I'd embed an API in my app rather than contort my app to run under Smartfox. Ideally it would offer an API on the flash end, another on the Java end, and efficiently (java nio preferably) handle the network component in between. I would just define handlers on both the client & server.

What is the reason for the enormass bloating of FLA file size, when many edits and saves are made to a FLA file, yet assets are not being added to the library? What is the best technique to keep FLA files smaller in size? (with the problem described below. I am not talking about published SWF files or asset management)Over many edits and many saves of my FLA files, they become 30 times the size on disk from where they start out. Example 750k can get as high as 34mb. In the past "save and compact" used to fill the role of reducing FLA file sizes but now that feature is gone.When I save as a CS4 file then back to CS5 the file becomes much smaller after it has become bloated, BUT I take a risk every time I do this that the file will become corrupted (I've had corruptions happen).I have read that files which were created in CS5 and are never in the format of CS4 don't have this problem, but I find that theory unlikely since I have tried to follow this rule to no success.
I have also read that every FLA file tracks its "history" of assets. So adding and removing assets to the library will sometimes cause bloating because old assets that are removed from the library remain in the FLA file. This seems bogus because there is no purpose to this, but could be an indication of a bug in Adobe Flash Professional CS5, and CS5.5.Personal details: the files I am editing contain personally created flash components, images, audio, many symbols (20+) but no embedded video.For me personally, this bloating is a problem because I'm dealing with hundreds of flash FLA files that should be about 1-4mb in size but are instead much larger. The overall effect is that I end up with gigabytes of files instead of hundreds of mbs.
is there a site where you can download flash galleries for a portfolio.. ?
View 0 RepliesI have a bit of Flash experience, did a full featured movie player, other stuff in AS3 and got plenty of programming skills in other languages, BUT now I need to create a multi paged website. Quite easy, a few pages, some animations here and there, nothing fancy, got all the graphics.
But time is short on this one, so I need some advice about good practices (pack everything into one main MC or make separate swfs and load them in, etc.), where to begin, or what kind of book should I grab to make the job pretty.
Is there an open source implementation of rtmfp?Is there FMS hosting that support rtmfp?
