I have a legacy AS2 swf that I don't want to rewrite in AS3 but I need to improve upon it to play video, and I'd prefer to use the AS3 video playing mechanisms.
Ideally I can build an AS3 movie that just takes a string param of the movie location and plays it. I'd load this AS3 swf into my AS2 movie and pass in the strings for the urls as necessary.
I am having trouble loading a quiz.swf into another another movie. To generate my quiz I goto
File > New > Templates > Quiz > Quiz_style_1
And in the first frame of the example quiz I add:

Then I publish the quiz as testquizex.swf, and I can test this movie and it works fine by itself. Then in a different movie I start with a blank scene I add a keyframe and I insert

Now the movie imports and loads into the frame and I can navigate through to the first question page, but the quiz doesn't actually work anymore i.e. drop targets dont work and the score won't increase. Is there anything else I have to do to the stock quiz template to make it importable into another project?

I'm trying to get a movie clip class from Flash into Flex Builder 3 (movie clip and external .as file). I used the Flex Components Kit for Flash cs3 and exported the swc into Flex, but was unable to instantiate the class because it wasn't a valid IUI component?So I took all the class code and moved it into the first frame of my movie clip. This allowed me to instantiate the class fine, but it tells me that all of the functions are null references.

View 1 RepliesI am importing a picture in flash and i found out that there is a difference between importing to the stage, and importing to the library... [URL] I've placed both picture close of each other and if you look closely, you'll notice that one of them is losing some resolution. Both picture come from the same file, a png. The picture imported to the stage is sharper than the one imported to the library. is there a way to import that picture to the library without losing any resolution?
View 5 RepliesWhen I import flv video on Flash CS4, I have a option to choose a skinning. When I choose SkinUnderAll, a lot of contorl buttons are available including full screen mode button. However, it does not include movie mode button. I am not exactly sure if it is called movie mode button. When you press it, a video clip will be displayed in center and surrounding area become transparent black. How can I obtain such a button?

I am using a set of 4 images. It works fine but now I need to put it in a website that is being created from a template. I know it may not work with the template but I don't even know how to begin to get it from Flash.
View 3 RepliesI am importing a PSD file with a background layer, which I want to remain static throughout the movie and also several other layers which I am going to animate. Here's my problem...I cannot figure out how to get the background layer to remain visible throughout the movie once I create tweens for the other layers, without manually copying and pasting frame 1 to every other frame...yikes! There must be something very obvious I am not doing, yes? It probably goes without saying that I am a first time 'designer'.
View 2 RepliesIt's been asked something like a million times and will probably continue to be asked long as there remains one Newbie on the planet. It is: How does one play an external swf inside a movie clip? But before the reader does an eye-roll-yawn, maybe just maybe it's not as simple as that��at least not to me�� there's more.... For stage simplicity's in this play lets get the characters straight. Lets call the external mc MC Orangutang and the main 'Big Movie where we want that Orangutang to perform [MC Buffalo. First, Buffalo is not a button but is a brief mc animation.
Second, Orangutang is not alone. There are two other MCs that also need to ride the buffalo. Call them what you will; but they are short little MCs that must all come riding onto the stage on the back of MC Buffalo. Third, I have the idea (or maybe its an obsession that) that it is a Flash-Wise idea to have all their aerobatics performed inside of an Empty Movie Clip. Hence, the Circus wold ideally run like this: Click on the MC Buffalo and it plays it short skit, then immediately imports or whatever we want to call it, the three jungle friends at which point all of them are now visible sharing the same stage and obediently waiting for a user to rollover/click on one of them.
All the jungle creatures perform annoyingly perfect when on their own (outside the Big movie Buffalo) but the very second we attempt to bring anyone of those recalcitrant beasts into the movie theater it's poof and he/she/it/they vanish without even a dirty little foot print on stage. I'm embarrassed to confess that I have spent (feels like wasted) weeks, yes weeks hoping to do this on my own but no joy! So, I now turn to the Geniuses.
We've got an Illustrator file with something over 1,000 layers. We're trying to import this into Flash and keep the layer names intact, such that they become the names of the movie clips that are imported for each layer and can be used programmatically. (It is a diagram and arrows, boxes, etc all have callout names that will eventually allow them to link to a database.)As near as I can tell, the Import dialog will NOT pass this info across between the two parts of the dialog.
View 1 Replieslove the way CS4 has a nice media converter so you can instanly import FLV files but what I have recently found is that the voice of my videos all go out of sync when inputted into flash but are fine if I play then direct from my hard drive. If I import the file in CS3 and convert them directly in CS3 then the voices are all fine. Because i'm using many transparent .png images I have to use CS4 because CS3 adds a nice jagged edge when these are rotated.

View 2 RepliesMy problem is that on importing a PSD into Flash CS5, my document loses the bevel and emboss effect that I added to the text layers I created in Photoshop CS5. I have tried merging the layers and flattening the image then importing, The bevel and embossing effects are now present, however, the colours have lost their brightness and vibrancy.

All I want to do is have Flash play a single video based on the URL specified in an XML file. I am using the default Flash video player.
I go to File -> Import -> Import Video, and then click on the "Already deployed to a web server" button, and type in the path to an XML file.
I'm confused as to what needs to be written in my XML file as to make the flash video work. Let's assume my video file is located at [URL] What code would I need to write in the XML file to get it to play?
I have been trying to import a video into my flash file. I uploaded it to my server but when i try to use the link it always says it doesnt exsist. The file i am linking it to is in my remote files. The url i get on filezilla for it is [URL] this doesnt work as its not a html.

i created a music loop in Cubase and i exported it in mp3... I cant find a way to import it in flash...its giving me an error window saying it was a problem reading the file... I know flash is compatible to mp3's... so whats the problem?
View 1 RepliesIm using Adobe Flash CS3 PRO. I don't know what's wrong..when I try to import photos into the stage the photos get resized.My photographs are 550px by 413px. I set my stage to the same size. Then I go to import to stage. I click import as a sequence. All the photos are appear smaller on the stage. They are only about 200px.I am basicaly trying to import a sequence of photographs for my stop motion animation.

View 1 RepliesI've been trying to import 258 PNGs into Flash. It gets up to around 200, +/- 1-2, and anything after that has "Bitmap not loaded" were the thumnail image should be in the library.
My computer is running 64 bit Vista with 4gb of ram.
I have a swf presentation with 28 pages. Each page contains a swf movie. It was originally done in 2005 with Flash Studio MX 2004 . In 2005 I imported a swf movie to each page and it all worked perfectly. The filesize was small and exe-filesize was 1,2 MB. Now when I have done small modifications to the swf in Flash CS4 and I try to import it to the main fla then it imports dozens of bitmaps and other stuff. After adding just that one swf exe-filesize is 5 MB and the swf is not even working. it is just a still.
Why can´t I just add the swf like before and it will work? I can´t/don´t want to do the loadmovie-thingy because this exe will go to a client who will share it over and over in their network. Once the file has external files it will be unusable immediately. It has to be in one file just like before. Do I have to go back to Flash Studio MX 2004 to make my modifications if I need to have just one file? Flash CS4 can´t import SWF directly anymore?
I have been making flash titles with a program called Mix FX. Unfortunately it will only save the files as projectors, swf and html files which I cannot use as a banner for my website. So is there any way that I could import a swf into flash so I can save it as a gif?
View 6 RepliesWhat I'm working on is a navigation bar populated by an XML document. I'm working from an existing navigation bar while I learn, and the existing bar has a menu, and when clicked each button has a sub menu. I'm trying to remove the submenu so that when you click the navigation bar button, you go to the address defined in the XML. So far I've got everything working so that there is no sub menu drop down, and when you click a button, you are taken to a URL defined in the actual flash AS file.
I can't seem to get the AS file to call on the XML file to the get a URL from it though. How do I tell the AS file to call a variable from the XML document? I know I have the correct Node path because it works in a second AS file.
I am trying to create a SWC library for use in my Flash AIR project. I have created a seperate FLA called SceneLibrary and followed the steps defined here:[URL]..to create a new SWC component. I saved the created SWC into a lib folder within my Flash Dev project, I then right click on the SWC item in my project window and choose "Add to Library" This all seems to go fine.
In my code i then go import FirstScene (this is auto completed by Flash Dev) It seems a bit weird to me that the path to this class would simply be

I have the video in WMV format and am thinking the best way to have the video play in the flash presentation is to "Embed video in SWF and play in timline" especially since I have to add text and image effects. Or is there a better way to do this?
I'm also having a hard time importing the video especially due to the Flip4Mac WMV Player putting a watermark in the video. Is there a way that I can put use Actionscript to play the video at the beginning (and end) of the Flash presentation and then play the rest of the Flash slideshow?
