Flash :: Loading Progress For Long Loop In Flex?

I have a loop that parses and works on a lot of data and it takes a long time. While it works away, the screen is blank and im wondering if there is a way to put a loader or counter up?
Since it does a finite amount of work, I thought I could just update the progress from within the loop but further readings has revealed that it wasn't possible.

I'm trying to play a 10 minute long video (h264/mp4) which is 39MB in size, after I call stream.play(fileURL) it doesn't start playback until its loaded around 12-16MB of the file (many many seconds later), I finally get onMetaData at this point too. Why doesn't it begin playback right away, or at least w/in a couple seconds? What can cause this bloated lead in time?

My application has a couple of modules which am loading as thus in my application.

Then while loading each module I am showing the progress bar. The progress bar shows but does not go away. It remains above the whole frame of the application. The module loader is as follows:(Also note that in Flex 3 the same works, but am using Flex 4 and in Fx 4 it does not)

I am attempting to monitor the progress of an image scroller I've built and all of the images (thumbs) load separately. What would be the best way of figuring out what the total progress of the images that are loading? I was thinking it would be cool to use a generic loader and apply it to a function such as

Somebody should write a book about loading and pre loading assets in flash !Im loading a few images using a loop and i store them in a bitmap array.I want to find the proper way to create a progress bar.I think i need to calculate the totalBytes of all the images but i need to it before i load the images....Is there a way to get the file size without loading the image ?That way i could create a loop that will calculate the bytesize of all the images and store it an a variable.and then i could just divide the total bytes with the current bytes of the image and get a progress bar the will represent the exact loading time.

I want to run the loop for long time in my application. If i do within few seconds i am getting a alert message like "Script in this movie make flash player to run slow . do you want to abort the script". How to overcome from this.

I have a progress bar inside a repeater and therefore I will need to use getRepeaterItem to set it's progress as suggested in this question.

i have a soung loop that i want to "loop" in my movie.this is my script:

the problem is that it only plays once (5 seconds long) and then stops, how do i get it to loop? - short of placing it on the timeline.

I am building an ActionScript 3 loader,which display the progress of Flash loading an external script. Here is a snippet of my code that works perfectly.
this.SWFLoader = new Loader();
this.SWFLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, trackProgress);
this.SWFLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loadComplete);
this.SWFLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, loadError);
As you can see, I have three event listeners, each for listening for different events triggered during the loading process.In regards to the above snippet, here is what I am unsure of:
What is the contentloaderinfo object?
What properties does the contentloaderinfo object contain?
Why can't I just use this.SWFLoader.addEventListener()?
When is it appropriate to use contentloaderinfo?

I have about 8000 rows of data being process, of course this doesn't take long, but it isn't instantaneous, so I'm using a progress bar to show the progression through.I've placed my progbar on the stage, and it is visible, but when I start the progressing of information in a for loop, the advancement of the progress bar doesn't display. I've placed a trace element within a custom component that includes the progress bar, and the trace is doing exactly what it is suppose to do. However, the progress indicator isn't advancing forward.
The main question is, is there a way to "refresh" the progress indicator to correctly indicate the current load level. I've found that rendering will not occur until the thread has completed it processing, so I need to show a visual representation of the load without compromising the speed of the load.

I have just recently returned to flash after a very looooooooong time! I moved out of the flash world a few years ago and have been working in design for print. A friend has asked me to help create a flash slideshow for them. I know how to do this using older versions of flash but there seems to be a quicker way in CS3.I have selected from the opening menu, Flash Slide Presentation.I have created my slideshow and added transitions.Everything looks great however I can only progress the slideshow using the arrow keys.My question is...Using this slideshow setting can I set my slideshow to loop through the slides automatically instead of progress with the arrow keys?

I am building a long timeline (50-100 entries) dynamically from XML. An entry can have either text or image or both. They all have the same distance from each other but they have different widths. there will be a slider at the bottom to quickly bring the user from one end of the timeline to the other end.
It's an interface that's similar to the aiga design archives. [URL]
The main difficulty I see is to dynamically load content that is currently visible first and content that is 'offscreen' later (or even unloading it if it enhances performance, does it?) I could try to figure out the math... but I know from experience that I get major headaches from such undertakings...
The second difficult task will be to determine the width of all entries before displaying them.. Is there a way in as3 to find out how wide an image is before completely loading it? Hmm that sounds a little unrealistic, but I thought I'd ask anyway
I am looking for an as3 class or library that could assist me in building this, mainly detecting if an entry is visible or not, or even better which entries are visible or not. Has anyone seen any as3 libraries related to such an interface?

I am currently doing a project which involves quite a large swf file at the end. I was wondering if anyone knows a way that i can easily make it so that at the begging, when first loading up the flash, it just loads the menu and a couple of other frames, but when i go onto play the game, it will load each level just before you play it, so that the player doesnt get bored from waiting right at the begging for a while when they can wait 5 seconds before each level.
Im pretty sure ive seen this done before but im not sure whether it is preparing it in that time, or downloading it. I want it so that there will be a 10-20 second wait for the game to load up, then you go to the menu, press play, loads the next frame, or certain number of frames, you play that level, then it keeps on doing this for all the levels.

I am developing a audio player in flex. I need a seekbar kind of like on youtube's video player. To implement the basic seek functionality the HSlider component is enough. But I also want to show the stream progress on the seek bar. (youtube colors the already streamed part of the seekbar red). Is there a way I can achieve the same? drag and drop audio player component with play/pause and seek functionality.

I've created a progress bar animation to load an external SWF file as described in this document: [URL] The problem is, the SWF file i want to load is a magazine exported from Indesign, so I want it to display one page (frame) at a time (you can go to the next page using the navigation buttons provided). When I use the method mentioned above the clip loads, but then it plays... so how can i make it stop at the first frame?

im following some suggestions to cut my flash website into a few sections to make preloading a bit easier.
so all i want is to make a small round ring rotate as long as the file is loading. so i looked and followed a lot tutorials but all the preloaders tutorials are much more compliceted then i need. they all have persentige sowing, and a bar that is filling according to how much the file has loaded, and colors changing etc. so i tried to take from the tutorials wat i need for my simple preloader to work but i get stuck.i built the animation of the rotating ring, but i get stuck with the actions i need to make the animation work as long as the file is working. i called my ring animation "circularloader". here is a image of the page with the ring:

I'm trying to make it so that the first 99 frames of a 198 frame preloader run even when the swf is loaded into the cache. I have the script looping the second 99 frames of the preloader while the movie is loading, but when it's already loaded, I only want the first 99. Right now, when the movie is already loaded, I'm only able to skip over the preloader altogether and go right to the movie OR I can see a loop that starts at the beginning of the preloader and then cycles through the second 99 frames indefinitely and never goes on to the movie that's loaded. At first I was using two separate movie clips, one for the first 99 frames and another for the second 99, but since that didn't work, I combined the files to see if that would work, but it didn't. I've tried so many adjustments, I've run out of ideas. Is it even possible to use a conditional with the onComplete function that's supposed to run when the loading is done, so that onComplete only happens if the current frame of the preloader is greater than 99?
Here's my script for frame 1 of my movie. The movie proper starts on frame 2, and preloader is the 198 frame movie clip in the library. The result of this script is an endless cycling of the preloader even when the movie's loaded.

Okay I made a photo Gallery using a Loader in the Components tab. I'm making the different frames load different pics (changing the Content Path of the Loader on each frame) so now when I go to my gallery after uploading it to the web then it takes a while to load the pics...so what i want is just to show the people that the photo is loading and that its not nothing on the gallery.

I have a swf called "main.swf". Here I am using movieClipLoader to load another swf called "news.swf". In "news.swf" I'm loading several images using movieClipLoader.
On the "main.swf" I want the loading progress for the ENTIRE "news.swf", including the loading progress for the images.
If I use onLoadProgress for "main.swf" while loading "news.swf", it will reach 100% before the images has started loading. I want the image loading to be included in the progress.

I have a situation where I'm using the FLVPlayback component and it starts off blank, meaning that it shows the video player skin but doesn't load a movie until prompted to do so. However, the progress bar in the skin is acting as if a movie is being loaded. I'd like to make it invisible or stop it until I need it, but I can't seem to target it. I'm having quite a hard time with trying to use the UILoader& Progress Bar components together, to make my thumbnails &main images load. The slideshow consists of 6 thumbs, each loadedinto a UILoader component, and held within a movieclip calledthumbs_mc, which is animated to appear as if its moving up a path(starts really small, and enlarges toward the user). I've foundthat the animation will not work unless the UILoader components arecontained inside of a movieclip.What I'm trying and failing to do is monitor the loading of the thumbs, so that they won't start movingdown the path until they finish loading. So far, what happens whentesting live is that the thumbs skip the animation and just appearin their end positions. I can't seem to get the Progress Bar andthe UILoaders inside the thumbs_mc clip to work together.
Once I've figured out how to do this, the next step would beto load with UILoaders and the Progress Bar each of the largeversions of the images, when the thumbs are clicked. But for themeantime, if I can figure out the thumbs, I can probably figure outhow to apply the same technology to the loading of the main images.

i have build a flash project where most of the content externally loads in to the main movie. for each chapter i made a "Loader" component, and a "progressBar" connected to the "Loader". during building i was re checking that all is working well (test movie with "simulate download"). then, i was uploading it to my server and when i view it on "fireFox", or "Safari" , it all working. but, when trying to view it on "IE", i never see the "progressBar" and, all the Actions that relate to the "on (complete) {}" never happens.
