ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading Individual Levels Before Play Them To Remove 1 Long Wait?

Aug 10, 2008

I am currently doing a project which involves quite a large swf file at the end. I was wondering if anyone knows a way that i can easily make it so that at the begging, when first loading up the flash, it just loads the menu and a couple of other frames, but when i go onto play the game, it will load each level just before you play it, so that the player doesnt get bored from waiting right at the begging for a while when they can wait 5 seconds before each level.

Im pretty sure ive seen this done before but im not sure whether it is preparing it in that time, or downloading it. I want it so that there will be a 10-20 second wait for the game to load up, then you go to the menu, press play, loads the next frame, or certain number of frames, you play that level, then it keeps on doing this for all the levels.

Flex :: Spark VideoDisplay With Long Wait High CPU Usage In Google Chrome (and Opera)

Sep 6, 2011

I've created a Flex website that plays a video using the Spark VideoDisplay component. When selected, the VideoDisplay loads in the PopUpManager.

This works fine in all the browsers, except Google Chrome take significantly longer to start playing, during which the CPU usage peaks, then goes back down once video starts playing.

I've traced the player states it goes through and they are as follows:

Loading ready (hangs for ages with high cpu) buffering playing (immediately after buffering, CPU usage goes down, video plays smoothly)

What could be causing this to temporarily hang for so much longer in Chrome? I thought I could expect the same functionality and behaviour throughout all the browsers, as Flash is simply a plugin that runs as a separate process?

Edit: It seems that it's the same in Opera too. Is there any commonality between the two that would explain this behaviour?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Disable Lower Levels Of Movies, But Not Remove?

Aug 18, 2004

I want to be able to have a movie in _level0. Then when user clicks on a button it will load another movie to _level5. But I want the lower movie to remain visible bit none of it's ruttons be active. I still notice the cursor turn to a finger when I move around areas that are buttons on layer below.

I have tried loading, then unloading lower level, but there is always a blank gap stutter. I have even tried spacing these load and unload commands apart, but no luck.

I have also turned the back graphic of the current layer in to one giant button, but I don't like the button cursor the whole time.

i have a scene with a button and a movieclip, each on seperate layers on the root...the MC has a 100 frame tween with stopactions on frames 1 and 100.

what i want to happen is while that button is being pressed, meaning the user keeps their mouse button depressed, that animation plays, and when they release it stops the MC(and is able to be resumed if the user depresses the button again).

i kept it brief--if you would liek to see the 2 routes i have taken thus far please reply and i will attach the scripts..

IDE :: Loading Movies From Different Levels?

Oct 1, 2009

I am creating a presentation which has a main flash and then 3 sub categories to it. Main.fla is nothing but a container to load the other movies into. I could get the the first movie (movie1.swf) to load onto main.swf by using the foll code:

this.createEmptyMovieClip("empty_mc",1);
empty_mc.loadMovie("movie1.swf");
empty_mc.x=0;
empty_mc.y=0;

Now the problem is in movie1.swf the menu is like on the 3rd level, i.e. main stage>menu_mc>menu (where the buttons are).

How can I add a code on level "menu" so that when I click button2 or button3 it loads movie2.swf and movie3.swf respectivley onto the main stage. Makes sense or am making it too confusing..

I want to try this breaking a big movie into smaller parts functionality so that I can understand flash more.

Actionscript :: LoadSound: Don't Wait For The Entire Download Before Play But Not Have It Start Automatically

Jul 2, 2009

I am trying to play an MP3 using Actionscript 2. I have the following requirements: I don't want to wait for the MP3 to load before playing it. I want to know when enough of the MP3 has downloaded that I can start playing it. I don't want the MP3 to start playing immediately: I need to control when the play starts. An example scenario is that I need to start playing a 30-second MP3 exactly 8 seconds from now (at the top of the minute, let's say). Depending on the connection, I may or may not be able to download the entire MP3 by then, but I can almost certainly download enough to start playing without interruption.

ActionScript 1/2 :: Wait While Movie Clip Is Loading

Dec 30, 2009

In a movie clip, I have a function named addObject(string). Inside that function I am loading another movie clip (say, myObj1_mc) using attachMovie. After loading, I need to set the string passed to the text field inside the myObj1_mc. But it is not possible to do this immediately, because the movie clip will take some time to load after the attachMovie call. Means if we set this string in the next frame, it will be working. But in my case, I have to call addObject multiple times (from a single frame). In each time, different movie clips (say, myObj1_mc, myObj2_mc, etc.) are created dynamically and texts are set. So it would be better if I can wait until the movie clip (myObj1_mc) is loaded completely so that I can set the text, before the addObject function exit.

how can we wait, until a movie clip attached is completely functional.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading And Unloading Moviesclips In Different Levels?

Sep 1, 2004

I've got a mainmovie.exe, which creates 4 emptymovieclips as containersall of the containers load an external moviethe one at the top with a menu/buttonsI'd like the buttons when clicked to unload all the containers and reload the original lowest level movie from a particular frame. then it'll go through the process of creating empty clips, and load each external movie againBut since I'm playing the movies in an exe. I dont know how to unload all the containers and start the root/lowest level movie from a particular frame of a particular scene.The main movie is called mainmovie.exe, it creates containers 1 - to 4 as empty ,movie clips.DOes its thing, reaches a particular frame and loads movies into into container 1 - to 3, and topcontainer. Topcontainer is the most important. It has the buttons/menu. WHen I put an "on release action" to unload all the other containers and gotoAndPlay root ->frame 2, it doesnt work. It unloads everything, but wont load goto And Play.I'm left with a blank screen.So frame 2 of root mainmovie.exe

_root.createEmptyMovieClip("container3",3);
_root.createEmptyMovieClip ("topcontainer",4);
setProperty("container3",_x,901.5);

ActionScript :: Wait For Image To Built Before Loading Frame

Jul 5, 2011

I have a script that takes lots of content and builds 1000s of MovieClips on the stage, does lots of drawing etc. Due to the high amount of work needed when the frame first loads this can sometimes be delayed by a second or two. The more the user uses the application the longer and longer this is likely to be (more data to siphon through and build). My question to you is how do I make sure the frame doesn't show (serve a loading image or something) until it is built? I don't want the user to see the skeleton of the page and then everything appear a second or two later.

Code:
function loadQuestion(){
var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("the url to my php script");
request.method = URLRequestMethod.GET;
var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
loader.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES;

Is it wrong of me to have the completeHandler inside the loadQuestion function? And is it wrong of me to assume that because I put the data in the textfields in the completeHandler it should w8 until its finished loading?

Actionscript 3 :: Flash.media.Sound.play Takes Long Time To Return

Apr 25, 2010

I'm trying to play some sounds in my flash project through action script. However for some reason in my code the call to Sound.play takes from 40ms to over 100ms in extreme cases, which is obviously more than enough to be very noticeable whenever a sound is played. This happens every time a sound is played, not just when that sound is first played, so I dont think its because the Sound object is still loading data or anything like that...

At the start I have this to load the sound:

class MyClass
{
[Embed(source='data/test_snd.mp3')] private var TestSound:Class;
private var testSound:Sound;//flash.media.Sound

[Code].....

This as far as I can tell is following the same process as other Flash programs I found, however none of them seem to have this problem. Is there something that I've missed that would cause the play() method to be so slow?
