Flash :: Moving And Rotating Objects Along A Sine Wave?
May 27, 2011
There are a couple of problems i'm having with this - the first is how to work out how to find where the tip of each sine curve is (ie the frequency) and the second is to work out how to rotate each object so that it slides sideways along the sine wave(note file is 800 x 600)here's my code: CarouselTest.as:
package
{
import com.greensock.easing.Sine;

I want to make a movieclip move on random sine wave. (sine path)I m trying to do this for a week and cant get it good.I want to make the curves random. and acceleration too.(it will be a fish like character swimming)Like as in this game : http:[url]..........(the small character which swim and move smoothly)this is the portion of code im using now.
var tempEnemy:MovieClip = _root.attachMovie("enemy1","enemy_1,1);
tempEnemy._x = 500;
tempEnemy._y = 0;[code]..........

I have a logo that I made in Fireworks, and it looks decent, but I was wondering if anyone could mimic it with movement. For example, if someone could use actionscript to make it "wiggle" or wave like a flag in the wind, that would be awesome.
Notice how the blue line itself stays at about the same thickness (it barely starts getting thicker), but the shading around it thickens as it goes more and more to the right.
Here's the image (ignore the text):

I'm generating a sine wave and playing it as a sound. But When I call SoundMixer.StopAll() it's causing a click when sounds stops. I think its because it's cutting the sound off in the middle of the wave, I was wondering of a way to make the sine wave slowly ripple out before i stop it. Is there already functions to do this in Action Script 3 or is my sine wave function i need to modify here is my code for the wave.
function sineWave(event:SampleDataEvent):void { var sample:Number for (var i:int=0; i<8192; i++) { sample = Math.sin((i+event.position) * ((2 * Math.PI)/44100) * freq); // freq is just any frequency event.data.writeFloat(sample * .15); event.data.writeFloat(sample * .15); } }

I am sooooooooo lost. I need help in making a movie clip go in a wave motion with only action script. basically I am trying to make a game and I am so lost on how to make the enemy come in and fly in a wave motion from the left to the right in an up and down motion. I thought it would be easy but I must be using the wrong code since my enemy plane is just fly from left to right and not going up and down.

I want to be able to take a general sine wave y=Math.sin(x) and rotate it around some other angle, so instead of going strictly left-to-right, I'd like to go from, say, the top left corner toward the "center," or from the bottom right to the center, or any other arbitrary angle. Like this: I want to be able to use that wave as a "path" for enemies in a game, but I cannot seem to wrap my head around it. I've tried matrix transformations, but I was missing something there, too, because the origin was wrong.

I am in the midst of finishing up a design application where you can upload images and colors. I use the greensock transform manager. I am taking anything a user does and recording it so I can recreate what they made on larger scale behind the scenes (to be exported for printing purposes)
The problem I am running into is with rotation and moving x and y values. The transform manager does everything relative to a center point, but when i recreate the image object the registration point is at the top left. I have found how to rotate around the center of the object using the transform matrix, but I can't seem to move the x and y correctly because these values change when you rotate. I want to just move the image to the left or right relative to the center. How could I go about doing this.
Here is how I rotate.
private function rotateAroundCenter (ob:*, angleDegrees:Number, ptRotationPoint:Point) {
var m:Matrix=ob.transform.matrix;
m.tx -= ptRotationPoint.x;

Whats the 3d capability in flash cs5, I've been told there is a new 3d tool for rotating around objects. Does that mean an obj import is possible? I am eventually aiming for a series of gear wheels, one facing the screen rotating on its z axis. Is this possible.

i'm using flash with box2D 2.1a. i'm rotating ball hanging on the string. The path which the rotating ball trace is ellipse. When releasing the rotating ball from the string i want the ball to fly with the obtained direction, velocity and strength. As you can see in the pictures.[URL]..I've tried to do it with setPosition (method of b2Body) and with various joints. But I haven't got the needed results.

im having trouble getting this rotation function down pat. i have a turret that should be rotating towards another moving object. it should find the shortest direction to rotate. basically what ive done is converted action script rotation from using -1 -> -179 to 180 -> 359. but now im having issues when the object it is tracking passes over the zero degree point. the turrent then rotates around the other way. here is the code. my mind is getting a little boggled. it is being passed the x difference between the objects, and the y difference

I have a 2d plane rotated on its x axis, with 2d display objects I want to move around on the plane. Its pretty similar to a chess board [URL]..
The board is a rotated rectangle, and the pieces are just 2d display objects. Whats the easiest way to manipulate those objects so they appear to be moving on the board?

I have this class named MovingObject which extends the MovieClip class. This class will be instantianted for several times. Inside this class is a Timer that handles the speed of the objects moving. There is another class called TheStage and this is where I will instantiate MovingObject (s).
public class MovingObject extends MovieClip{
public var tmr:Timer = new Timer(1);
public function MovingObject(){
[Code].....
Assuming that the code is working fine (I haven't debugged it), this makes the particles to move all at once. However after several seconds of running it, the particles seem not to be moving in synchronization with each other (because their distances between seem to get nearer).

I have an array wich is filled with platforms that are supposed to move.
var MovingPlatformArray:Array = new Array();
for (var c:int = numChildren - 1; c >= 0; c--){
var child3:DisplayObject = getChildAt(c);
if (child3.name == "movingplatform"){
MovingPlatformArray.push(child3);
[Code]...
Right now I have 2 moving platforms in this array. But only one moves up and down. But they both register a touch with the birdie.

I have imported a lot of paths from an Adobe Illustrator document right into a flash file. The paths exists as Drawing Objects inside the scene. Using pure actionscript, how can I move a symbol following each of the lines, without using predefined Motion Guides.
EDIT: I've attached the Flash file, full of drawing objects.
http:[url]....
The question is: Are these drawing objects accessible through AS3 or I should convert them to symbols / whatever format necessary.

I'm making a catching game and I only wanted the falling objects hit certain area on my catcher. My catcher is a girl with mouth open and I wanted the falling objects to hit only the mouth, not any other parts of her body like arms. So I made two objects, the full girl and just the mouth. How do I make the two objects (movieclips) move around with the mouse?

One of my main interests is playing games so I thought why not make a game? I see lots on the Internet games based in Flash so I thought that would be my best starting point to make actual graphic based games... (not to mention I actually got taught at university how to use flash to a certain extent). The game I decided upon was tetris. I'm sure you're all familiar with the block based puzzle game and might be able to shed some light upon what I am doing right and what I am doing wrong. So, I've firstly made my game screen with a window for all the blocks to come down in.
I've also put some dynamic text place holders ready for when I come to keeping track of how many 'lines' the player has scored, the time and so on in the right hand side of the screen. I have made graphics for the different colour 'building blocks' (just one block of 24x24 in different colours for each shape) and then used the 'building blocks' multiple times to create my shapes (I, J, L, O, S, T, Z). These blocks are called tetrominoes. Now I've come to a point where I need to import these tetrominoes randomly from the library and get them to appear in the middle just off the top of my block screen.
How do I import random objects from a particular folder in my library to the stage in Flash CS5 AS3? After realising a quick solution to my problem was not to be found quickly I then thought about what will happen to this block once it has been imported... Well, in Tetris the block moves slowly down until it hits another block or the bottom of the block screen. I know that I can do something with a detectHit() function. How do I get my block to move down the screen by a set amount of pixels every second or so?

So I just started using Flash CS4 from Flash 8, and I like it so far, but there's on major problem: the "classic tweens" (motion tweens) aren't rotating some of the objects I have. Like there's this flame thrower I drew, and I rotate it at the end of the motion tween, but it doesn't rotate. It will just wait till the last frame and then it will show the rotated frame. Motion works in the motion tweens, but not enlarging or rotating... why? It seems more like a glitch, because sometimes I make a classic tween and it rotates stuff just fine, but sometimes it just doesn't... what am I doing wrong here? What's going on?

I need to reassign z value to some objects that are rotating in 3d. (see attachment).
This is my code: but it doesn't work:
ActionScript Code:
for (var i:uint=0; i<container.numChildren; i++) {
cont[i]=container.getChildAt(i)
//cont[i].z=cont[i].transform.getRelativeMatrix3D(root).position.z;

I have two drag-related questions. The first one is how to rotate an object by clicking and holding on it, then moving the mouse round in circles. Think of a clock face, and the user clicking and holding on one of the hands, then spinning it around. The centre point would be the part of the hand that's attached to the middle of the clock face, and the other end of the hand would be able to rotate 360 degrees around the face.
The second one (and not related to the first one, a separate query altogether) is how to drag something horizontally along the screen, but have it stuck at a certain speed. So if the user tries to quickly drag the clip from left to right, it will not reach the right instantly, but instead follow the cursor at a slow speed.

All I need to do is rotate an object (which could spawn at any point along each of the four edges of the screen) so that it faces towards the centre of the screen. Obviously this will be done using the .rotationZ property. I will know the starting point of the object, and the centre point of the screen (400, 300). The object begins facing directly 'up' (e.g. if it spawned directly below the centre of the screen it would already be at the correct angle).

I'm working on putting together a game at the moment which is similar in many ways to mini golf (or crazy golf, depending on where you come from). It is shown from a side-on view and to play the user must select the ball by holding the mouse down over it, then drag the mouse to indicate the direction they wish to fire the ball in. The distance they drag the mouse (this is capped obviously) determines the power of their shot.
I am currently using a triangular object with the tip placed at the centre of the ball to show to the user the direction they have chosen. This triangle rotates to face the position of the mouse, and I'm trying to get it to extend/shorten based on the distance from the mouse to the ball. I have code in place (below) that works when the mouse is either to the left or right of the ball, but behaves rather strangely when the mouse is above or below the ball. When the mouse is in either of the latter locations, the triangle extends to be far bigger than the maximum length allowed by the program, yet a trace shows it is still within acceptable limits! I'm almost beginning to think that Flash is switching the 'width' and 'length' attributes around when the object is rotated by either 90 or -90 degrees!
The code I am using is:
[Code]....
Here's a couple of screenshots of the game as it currently stands too - please don't laugh at the horrible placeholder art: none of it is final haha (also note that I haven't implemented 'gravity' yet, so everything is sort of hovering in mid-air.) The first image shows the code working as I want it to with the triangle at it's max width, the second shows the triangle going 'huge.'
