Flash Based Tetris - Importing Random Objects And Moving Blocks

Jul 23, 2011

One of my main interests is playing games so I thought why not make a game? I see lots on the Internet games based in Flash so I thought that would be my best starting point to make actual graphic based games... (not to mention I actually got taught at university how to use flash to a certain extent). The game I decided upon was tetris. I'm sure you're all familiar with the block based puzzle game and might be able to shed some light upon what I am doing right and what I am doing wrong. So, I've firstly made my game screen with a window for all the blocks to come down in.

I've also put some dynamic text place holders ready for when I come to keeping track of how many 'lines' the player has scored, the time and so on in the right hand side of the screen. I have made graphics for the different colour 'building blocks' (just one block of 24x24 in different colours for each shape) and then used the 'building blocks' multiple times to create my shapes (I, J, L, O, S, T, Z). These blocks are called tetrominoes. Now I've come to a point where I need to import these tetrominoes randomly from the library and get them to appear in the middle just off the top of my block screen.

How do I import random objects from a particular folder in my library to the stage in Flash CS5 AS3? After realising a quick solution to my problem was not to be found quickly I then thought about what will happen to this block once it has been imported... Well, in Tetris the block moves slowly down until it hits another block or the bottom of the block screen. I know that I can do something with a detectHit() function. How do I get my block to move down the screen by a set amount of pixels every second or so?

Flash :: Moving Objects With Timer?

Sep 1, 2010

I have this class named MovingObject which extends the MovieClip class. This class will be instantianted for several times. Inside this class is a Timer that handles the speed of the objects moving. There is another class called TheStage and this is where I will instantiate MovingObject (s).

public class MovingObject extends MovieClip{
public var tmr:Timer = new Timer(1);
public function MovingObject(){

[Code].....

Assuming that the code is working fine (I haven't debugged it), this makes the particles to move all at once. However after several seconds of running it, the particles seem not to be moving in synchronization with each other (because their distances between seem to get nearer).

The question is: Are these drawing objects accessible through AS3 or I should convert them to symbols / whatever format necessary.

I have turrets on these crafts as well. they are seperate objects from the air plan. I scale them down as well. The only problem is they dont reposition correctly. they stay in their x and y positions even though they are being scaled it looks as if they are being pulled away from the air plane. is it possible to reposition them correctly based on the size on the object they sit on (i.e. the air planes)

Flash :: Move A Displayobject Based On Another Objects Rotation?

Jan 17, 2010

Ive probably ran into some code like this before. just cant remember where. I have 2 display objects on my stage. One is rotating and the other is positioned 90 degrees from the rotating object. As the object rotates, the other object adjusts its x and y positioning from the rotating object..

If this doesnt make sense, then let me explain what I am trying to do. I have a spaceship in my flash game. this ship has 2 torrets siting on the left and right wing. as the ship turns, the torrets need to remain on the wings.

Flex :: Flash - Using Sprite Objects In A MXML-based Application?

Oct 25, 2010

Canvas.addChild() insists any DisplayObject added implements IUIComponent. But I don't want my core graphics engine dependent on Flex. Is there an obvious/common way around this, to have simple graphical objects like Sprites & Shapes in a Flex application? The individual DisplayObject children I want to add as children represent objects in a game world, like a spaceship or a missile or a horse...

Not sure if Canvas is the most appropriate container, perhaps Group or another class is optimal for a game-engine... example MXML & AS3 code showing a skeleton setup is most welcome. I'm targeting Flex4 & Flash 10, but Flex3/Flash9 solutions are still of interest.

AS3 :: Flash - Dropping Objects At Random

I have a code here that drops a first row then drops a second row down right after. First row drops right away and second row is on a timer.

// Bring in first row
var blueY:Tween = new Tween(blue, "y", Bounce.easeOut, -295, -49, 2, true);
var pinkertonY:Tween = new Tween(pinkerton, "y", Bounce.easeOut, -295, -49, 2, true);

How would I drop each cover individually at random between two set numbers? I assume I would have to apply a separate timer for each one then somehow make the time at which it drops random between two numbers?

A familiar error message appears, "A term is undefined and has no properties". I'm sure it refers to the object I'm trying to spawn, however it rejects every object I refer to. Is my approach reasonable or should I scarp what I've got?

Code:

var randomNumber:Number = Math.round(Math.random() * (spawnObject.length - 1));
if(spawnObject[randomNumber] == "Object1")

Actionscript 3 :: Moving Randomly-generated Object Based On Its Rotation

Oct 26, 2011

Making a ship game because I am incredibly original.. With that aside, I have a problem. I have a function to fire bullets from my ship based on its rotation which works.. it uses this code on creation: ember ho jis ny mmujhe block kia hai

[Code]...

The above code is in my Ship class so I can easily make the bullets achieve the correct rotation. And to continually update its position, in the bullet's class:

x += Math.cos(rotation / 180 * Math.PI) * speed;
y += Math.sin(rotation / 180 * Math.PI) * speed;

So that all works well. But I have another class, EnemyBullet, which randomly generates and uses similar code to set its direction and movement. In my ship class:

[Code]...

I gather that the rotation is therefore always horizontal, but can't for the life of me see why? Can anyone give me an answer? Assuming it's simple enough because the code I used to setup the rotation is the same working code I have used to turn a movieclip towards the mouse..

ActionScript 2.0 :: Moving Movie Clip Based On Mouse Position?

Aug 11, 2009

I'm creating a slideshow gallery in flash and am basically there now except for one bit...

have a look here [URL]

The slider at the bottom for the thumbnails moves ok but I want it to stop at the last slide. I

I can manage to code it based on the mc's _x value

i.e if (mc._x < -200){ //do nothing }

but this creates a dead stop and I want a gently slow down like if you were to navigate from thumb 8 back to 1.

all of my coding at the moment uses the mc's x value in relation to the mouse's distance.

The code I have currently set on the slider is:

Code:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
if((_root.slidesQTY>6)&&(_root._ymouse>460)){
if(this._x<0){

[Code]....

how I could add another if statement that doesn't halt the animation as it hits the last slide but creates a smooth slow down?

ActionScript 1/2 :: Tetris Game - Block Go Directly To The Bottom On The Press Of "space"?

Apr 10, 2010

I'm using AS2 and fps120.I'm creating a tetris game, but I encountered a problem: I made a function which makes the block go directly to the bottom on the press of "space".I used

if(Key.isDown(Key.SPACE)){
...
}

But when I pressed space, the blocks stacked up immediately. It's because after I press space, another block apears immediately and goes to the bottom immediately, and keeps going until I release spade. It isn't a problem if I use lower fps, but my fps is 120, which means even I release space as quickly as I could, at least six blocks would stack up. I want to know is there anyway to detect the releasing of "space" or a detection which only detects on the instant I press, instead of when the key is down.
