ActionScript 3.0 :: Moving Sprite Based On Perlin Noise?
Jan 26, 2012
affect the position of a sprite using perlin noise? Looking at this flag example:
[URL]
If you imagined a sprite with say just a circle drawn in it positioned on the top right corner of the flag, is there a way to calculate the change in position to keep it in-sync with the flag corner as that animates? What I'm after is the fluid motion but not the distortion.

Lately I have been trying to animate the water surface giving it more natural look by use of Perlin noise. But it seems it is very CPU intensive operation. And if I use it along with other animations on the stage which involve lot of movements then it become really difficult for the machine to render the entire scene.

Is there a way to pre-render a BitmapData.perlinNoise moving animation into a seamless loop of 10-12 frames from which copypixels could be used on the resultant sprite strip to produce fast resuilts?

how to get the Perlin Flag Wave shown at
Senocular[dot]com/flash/source/?entry=761
to go from right to left?
Reversing the gradient of the displacement does not work. It simply reverses the amount of the effect on the left side so the waves are bigger on the left end, but the waves still move from left to right.

i got this perlinnoise called function and movieclip.filter = [displacementMapFilter] inside a onEnterFrame and it's eating me at 100 percent. are there any substitutions for making it much less processor intensive? I'd like to show a picture rippling and i'd like to use perlinNoise. Is there a way i can pre-calculate the perlin noise values and then loop through it in an OnEnterFrame

I'm trying to replicate an smart filter from Photoshop (CS5) in AS3. Here's what I'm trying to do: I want to have a dark gray background (0x323232 to be specific) with some light, fine grained monochromatic noise on it. I've been mucking around with the perlinNoise method but it's 'too much noise'. Too much contrast. Code: bitmapData.perlinNoise(3, 3, 13, Math.random(), true, true, 7, true); Could anyone point me in the right direction?

I have been trying to create a visual noise pattern using bitmapData.noise, and with help from Rothrock and Kglad have created a working version.I checked with a colleague who is expert on the use of these visual patterns, and he suggested that the change speed is too fast: that the dots (pixels) need to change at just under 400 dots per second for an 800 x 600 stage.With beginner skills in AS3, I am unsure if there is any way to change the script to slow the rate of dot change in the bitmapData.noise function?

If I use mySprite.x += 1; //it's choppy
if I use mySprite.x += .1; //it's smoother but slow
if I use mySprite.x += .5; //it's only slightly choppy but speed is better
Is there a way to guarantee perfect movement(the sprite moves subpixels), yet still have an adjustable speed?

So I'm working on my portfolio and I got this problem. The code posted scrolls the sprite "cellContainer" based on the position of stage.mouseY. Perfect.Problem is that I want stage.mouseY to equal the entire cellContainer height. Kind of like how a small tablet equals a huge monitor. So when stage.mouseY = 0,cellContainer.y = 0 and when stage.mouseY = stage.stageHeight, cellContainer.y = stage.stageHeight - cellContainer.height. Right now, it scrolls, but it takes a while to scroll throught the entire height of cellContainer. I want it to be proportional to stage.mouseY.

private function scrollStart(e:Event)[code]....

I want to the user to be able to draw a line and then have a sprite follow the line as its path. Also, it would be nice if the line could be cleaned up after the user draws it with his/her mouse so that it is made up of clean curves/spline.

I want a sprite to be added to the stage, then move along the stage, I guess using the ENTER_FRAME listener. Then when it reaches a certain point, for example ball.x = 200; it is to stay there. Also when it reaches that point, another iteration of the ball sprite is added to the stage at another point on the stage, and then do the same thing as the previous on (like move across the screen until it reaches the stop point (like the one before).This adding of Sprites and then moving, checking if it reaches a point, if so, stop this sprite from moving, then add another sprite in the initial position, would be on a loop until a condition is met, i.e counter = 100;I can't seem to get it down on code, (cue people going "man this is easy"!!) So in short1) add sprite to stage at sprite.x = 100; sprite.y = 150;2) move sprite across stage 10 pixels per frame3) when sprite.x => 500; stop the sprite.counter++;4) add another sprite instance in the original location (sprite.x = 100; sprite.y = 1505) repeat steps 3)-4) until counter == 100, then go to 6

I wrote a big Actionscript project using AS3 as an "Actionscript Project" in Flash Builder 4.5. I have a bunch of solid, reusable, code, but one of the big components is a main.as file that extends Sprite and serves as the display code for my application. I now, for various reasons, need that to be a Flex application. I'm trying to get the most minimal wrapper possible, so here's what

The idea is there are two buttons(Sprites), one on the left & one on the right, when either button is moused over a the script should start setting the alpha of the relevant visible element. (i'm not worried that they both would be fading out as the mouse moves left to right at this point)
ActionScript Code:
private function turnOnInterfaceHinting():void {
this.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, InterfaceHinting);

Canvas.addChild() insists any DisplayObject added implements IUIComponent. But I don't want my core graphics engine dependent on Flex. Is there an obvious/common way around this, to have simple graphical objects like Sprites & Shapes in a Flex application? The individual DisplayObject children I want to add as children represent objects in a game world, like a spaceship or a missile or a horse...
Not sure if Canvas is the most appropriate container, perhaps Group or another class is optimal for a game-engine... example MXML & AS3 code showing a skeleton setup is most welcome. I'm targeting Flex4 & Flash 10, but Flex3/Flash9 solutions are still of interest.

I'm trying to make a little program. It works right now by drawing the top shape to the dark gray area, where it then copies itself and changes color. The new shape can be re-dragged as well. What I want to do now is add a dynamic border when I click on the new object, I want the box to adjust to an appropriate size. And on mouse release I want the selection border to disappear on the new shape. I want the selection border to be dashed much like you find in many of Adobe's programs, if at all possible.

<root>
<image url="whatever.com/image.jpg">
<name data="Blanius">

I know how to get to the data what I'm looking for is the best way to create this Sprite on my stage.should the class create a sprite or clip?should the class called to create an instance and then I addChild in my core script?

Making a ship game because I am incredibly original.. With that aside, I have a problem. I have a function to fire bullets from my ship based on its rotation which works.. it uses this code on creation: ember ho jis ny mmujhe block kia hai
[Code]...
The above code is in my Ship class so I can easily make the bullets achieve the correct rotation. And to continually update its position, in the bullet's class:
x += Math.cos(rotation / 180 * Math.PI) * speed;
y += Math.sin(rotation / 180 * Math.PI) * speed;
So that all works well. But I have another class, EnemyBullet, which randomly generates and uses similar code to set its direction and movement. In my ship class:
[Code]...
I gather that the rotation is therefore always horizontal, but can't for the life of me see why? Can anyone give me an answer? Assuming it's simple enough because the code I used to setup the rotation is the same working code I have used to turn a movieclip towards the mouse..

I'm creating a slideshow gallery in flash and am basically there now except for one bit...
have a look here [URL]
The slider at the bottom for the thumbnails moves ok but I want it to stop at the last slide. I
I can manage to code it based on the mc's _x value
i.e if (mc._x < -200){ //do nothing }
but this creates a dead stop and I want a gently slow down like if you were to navigate from thumb 8 back to 1.
all of my coding at the moment uses the mc's x value in relation to the mouse's distance.
The code I have currently set on the slider is:
Code:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
if((_root.slidesQTY>6)&&(_root._ymouse>460)){
if(this._x<0){
[Code]....
how I could add another if statement that doesn't halt the animation as it hits the last slide but creates a smooth slow down?

One of my main interests is playing games so I thought why not make a game? I see lots on the Internet games based in Flash so I thought that would be my best starting point to make actual graphic based games... (not to mention I actually got taught at university how to use flash to a certain extent). The game I decided upon was tetris. I'm sure you're all familiar with the block based puzzle game and might be able to shed some light upon what I am doing right and what I am doing wrong. So, I've firstly made my game screen with a window for all the blocks to come down in.
I've also put some dynamic text place holders ready for when I come to keeping track of how many 'lines' the player has scored, the time and so on in the right hand side of the screen. I have made graphics for the different colour 'building blocks' (just one block of 24x24 in different colours for each shape) and then used the 'building blocks' multiple times to create my shapes (I, J, L, O, S, T, Z). These blocks are called tetrominoes. Now I've come to a point where I need to import these tetrominoes randomly from the library and get them to appear in the middle just off the top of my block screen.
How do I import random objects from a particular folder in my library to the stage in Flash CS5 AS3? After realising a quick solution to my problem was not to be found quickly I then thought about what will happen to this block once it has been imported... Well, in Tetris the block moves slowly down until it hits another block or the bottom of the block screen. I know that I can do something with a detectHit() function. How do I get my block to move down the screen by a set amount of pixels every second or so?
