Flash :: Retrieve Valid Sound.length Property Before Streaming Loading Is Done?
Oct 13, 2011
I would like to know what bitrate is song, so I count it this way:
var bitrate = Math.floor( 8*_snd.bytesTotal/_snd.length);
but unfortunately I can not retrieve valid value for _snd.length before all the song is loaded. Is there any other way to achieve that value?

I am trying to use the class Sound of actionscript.My code is really basic :
var snd:Sound = new Sound();
snd.load(new URLRequest("mysound.mp3"));
trace( new String(snd.length));
snd.play();
The audio is playing very well but in my trace, I get 0 instead of the length in milliseconds of the Sound.

I have a Flash based media player loading mp3s at 22.050 khz, and for some reason the length is being reported as a little over twice what it should be. Is there anything I can do, short of dividing the results by 2?

I have two values which are both ints: val1 and val2.
I set a movie clip's width equal to the difference of the two values:
mc.width = val1 - val2
After doing this calculation, the width of the object is 149.9 when it should be 150. This happens for other values as well. When I trace(val1 - val2), it returns 150.
What seems to be happening is the width value of my movie clip is not adjusting correctly. My movie clip is composed of a bunch of bitmaps and filters. I didn't think this would be a problem, but when I switched it out for a plain shape, the problem went away.
Is there something funny about bitmaps or filters that would make the width value screw up by .1?

I am using as2 to stream some mp3s. At the moment I have an attribute within the xml for giving me the length.I guess the length for the mp3s is buried in the mmp3 file somewhere. If I load the files in totally first, then I can get at the info (ID3 is it?) however, this doesn't work for streaming them . Or rather, I can't make it work! (I have found posts which suggest making an estimate if you know how much has downloaded in so many seconds and you know the length etc etc - but this is exactly that - an estimate!)So my question is how do I get the length of an mp3 clip that I am going to stream?

I'm trying to build a small app that will iterate through an array of sound files to see if they are valid.I'm simulating corrupt sound files by taking .png's and changing the extension on them to .mp3 The idea is a sound will start playing and the timer will start. When the sound is done playing the next sound will start and the timer will reset and start counting down again. If a sound does not finish within 45 seconds the timer will complete, output the name of the file that did not finish, and then skip to the next file. For some reason though the timer does not reset when the sounds finish playing, it just keeps counting down from wherever it is.
Code:
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.net.URLRequest;
import flash.media.Sound;
import flash.media.SoundChannel;
[code]....

I am using a flash app. I can send and receive streaming data to FMS by using this app, like the chart I attached. [URL] This app uses RTMP to access to FMS. I want to upgrade this app to display sound level of each client. Is it possible by using Actionscript and FMS? If so, which class should I use?

I'm struggling with a flash file that I want to play two different sound files when the appropriate buttons are pressed.I've gotten it to the point where it will load without any errors popping up, but instead of playing the second sound when I press the button for that sound, it plays the first sound again. Here's the code:
var sc1:SoundChannel = new SoundChannel();
var s1:Sound = new Sound();
s1.load(new URLRequest("http://www.website.com/wells.mp3"));

I'm loading an xml file that contains nothing more than a list of "valid" zip codes. Here's a sample of the xml:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<zipCodes>
<zip>82930</zip>
<zip>82931</zip>
<zip>83114</zip>
...and so on.
What I need to happen is when a user enters a zip code, I need to return a "yes" or "no" based on whether or not the zip code they entered is in the xml list. So far, it only works if the zip they enter happens to be the last one on the list. This tells me that it's either not searching the entire file, or that it perhaps needs to search in a loop somehow.
Here's the code that works the closest to what I need:
stop();
var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader;
xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, showXML);
xmlLoader.load(new URLRequest("zipCodes.xml"));
var xmlData:XML;
function showXML(e:Event):void {
[Code] ....

I'm building a Flash mp3 player to handle streaming mp3s served by Amazon CloudFront (which uses Flash Media Server). I'm using an FLVPlayback 2.5 component to do most of the heavy lifting (I tried an all AS3 method, but any stream automatically stopped within 5 - 10 seconds of playing). When I trace out the FLVPlayback's totalTime property, I get NaN. This is causing the seek bar to simply not work. This only seems to affect mp3s, as when I load an FLV I get a real value for totalTime. Does anyone know why this is happening

how to create a custom player that would stream a list of youtube videos along with soundcloud, and MP3 similar to the one on [url]....I know that this might seem like quite a general question but any direction on how to accomplish this and whether it should be done using flash and Youtube API, and sound cloud API or whether it should be done with some sort of flash audio ripping way.

I would like to put an eventListener on an ArrayCollection's length proprety, but I don't know how to go about this.
I want to do this because I only want code to execute when a certain number of things are in a certain ArrayCollection. I want Flex to wait to execute this code over the next object until that length property drops back to an acceptable level. I think I should do this with events instead of a while loop that sits there spouting NOOPs forever (which I don't know how to do either).

I am looking at "length" property in the Adobe AS3.0 language ref as I do not understand it. It says: An integer specifying the number of characters in the specified String object. (I understand this). Because all string indexes are zero-based, the index of the last character for any string x is x. length - 1. (I do not understand the "- 1". I understand that all string indexes are zero-based but I cant put this together with the last character for any string being -1 or whatever it is saying.

normally the sound.length property is only accessibleafter the sound has finished downloading.I have heard there is an algorithm that can determine thesound.length property before an mp3 has finished downloading, or atleast approximate it very closely

Code from the character package (einstein.as):
Code:
//load sound
public function talk(url:String):void
{
[Code]....
Problem is, soundFactory.length will return 0 ! That's because .length needs the entire file to be loaded in order to return the proper value, right ? If i trace it in "completeHandler" function, the right value is being shown but i cannot return the value to use it as a parameter in the "asteapta" function, at least i have no idea how. I guess i need to know the sound length before the file is being loaded.

I am using an array to return data to an application and as the array is filled with data using a loader and the order is important it happens that data in slot n is inserted later than data in slot n+1. How do I know that the array is full as I know the number of elements to be loaded? The length property doesn't work for this. I could go through the array each time I put something in and look if every slot is full but that seems ineffective.

I'm trying to build a play back progress bar for an audio recorded from the users microphone. It works okay but when I play back I can't figure out how long the audio is so I can calculate percent played for animating a progress bar. Most of these snippets can be found in LiveDocs and online examples from bytearray.org. Audio is stored in the bytearray and the sound is played back in a sound channel.
