View 1 RepliesI am using Flash CS4 and ActionScript 3.I am trying to dynamically load text and an image from an XML File.I can load the XML file, and populate the dynamic textbox with the text.But I can't figure out what to put the image in.[code]
View 2 RepliesI want to give the users the ability to set the background color or choose image to make it background (Tile, Center and Strentch). I tried couple of things with no luck such as trying to chaing a Skin object and assign it.and tried something like:
FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.setStyle("backgroundColor",uint(chosenColor));
I need to dynamically load image and text (title + description) from external XML file in Flash 8 and show image in the left and all text in the right(title top then description) and scroll all the content(image + text). More than one image and text will be there.Pls send solution + fla & xml.
View 2 RepliesI created a somewhat custom Spark button by doing the File > New > MXML skin and basing it on spark.components.button. The problem is that I need to add an extra text field to the button component and dynamically change that text...but of course, the property isn't recognized on a Spark Button.
Is there a simple way to add this field to my custom button skin & its property so it can be addressed? If not, is there a simple way to take what I've done and just extend the Spark Button? I can't seem to find any examples that show how to do it without writing it all up in ActionScript.

View 1 RepliesI am building a form builder in Flex 4.5. For that I need help regarding uploading image at runtime such that any user can just simply place cursor on particular location on image and is able to upload any image from the local file system.
View 2 RepliesIn my Flex application, I've got a component that extends UIComponent where I'm loading images at runtime and try to display them. I've tried lots of different approaches (using beginBitmapFill(), using different containers), but I can't get things to work as I want. The problem seems to be related to the width and height properties of the image, which aren't updated correctly.The idea is:
var sprite:Sprite = new Sprite();
addChild(sprite);
var im:Image = new Image();[code].....
The image's width and height doesn't seem to be correct when it's loaded. I get width==0 (and nothing is displayed), but the property $width seems to be correct. How can I assure that width and height of the loaded image is updated?
Below is sample code from a Module I have in my Flex app. I want to dynamically create mx.controls.Image objects and add them to the display. I want the user to be able to move them (this works as below) and be able to change their z-index as well as record new X and Y coords after moving back to the database. How do I determine which object in this.getChildren() is the 'selected' item the user is working with? When I add a MOUSE_OVER event, for example, it does not work.[code]
View 1 RepliesI am trying to load an image in Flex (AS3) which already exists:
<mx:Image id="Img"/>
With this code:
Img.load('[URL]');
The path is verified to work, but I always get this error:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
I used the code from the documentation and still receive this error!
I have a main.mxml application that lays out my application, it contains a "browse and upload" button. And contains an image to view the users uploaded image like so:
<mx:Application
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[

In my myModel class I have a img_scld_bm that the browseAndUpload() function draws into after scaling it.
My intent is that my mx:Image will display the image. As shown here I'm assigning the image source="mymodel.img_scld_bm", this ends up just showing a broken image icon.
I also tried data binding, where in my myModel class I have [Bindable] var img_scld_bm. And then tried setting my mx:Image source="{myModel.img_scld_bm}" .. that didn't seem to do anything either. All this compiles fine, no warnings. I think in this case, I'm not setting a trigger or propertyChange event to update the binding?
how to correctly bind an mx:Image source to some bitmap?
I am implementing drag and drop from a DataGrid onto a List in a Flex 3 AIR application. I would like to have the drag image be a photo (jpg) referenced by a String field in the data grid item, named 'imagePath'. I'm having trouble getting the image to show up during dragging. I have triple checked that it is not because of an invalid path to the image. I have tried Image's source() and load() methods in every way I can think of. I am calling this method 'dragCurrentToList(event)' on a mouseDown event.[code]This works perfectly if I set the image source to the following bindable variable but I don't want to hardcode the image name.[code]
View 1 RepliesI have a image declared like the following:
[Bindable]
[Embed( source="assets/banana.png" )]
public var iconBANANA : Class;
It is involving into itemRenderer, but I wish to change the color of the image when some event occurs (like clicking above or something). The rest of the objects used the image shall remain unchanged, only the object on which the event has occurred shall change the color of the image. But the biggest question is: How to change the image color mainly - like there is a Blue area on image - to turn it on Green, or Yellow?
I need to add my images/icons dynamically at runtime to my Flex GUI due to licencing reasons. So how can I add a dynamically loaded icon to an Alert? I use the following function
[Code]...
I have a custom item renderer that displays images:
<mx:DataGrid dataProvider="{friends.friend}" id="friendsGrid" width="240" rowCount="3" variableRowHeight="true" headerHeight="0"
horizontalCenter="true" backgroundAlpha="0" borderThickness="0"
[code].....
I'm trying to write a little flex app that has a paint/canvas type feature to draw an image, which I then want to post to a rails server side. I'm following the post here, but can't get as far as he did due to the following error: NoMethodError (undefined method `rewind' for #):I googled that and found this which says the problem is due to an empty filename, but I thought I had that from the example. However, I altered the example to simplify the post by reducing the form parameters, but I could have easily messed something up since I really don't know what I'm doing with this multipart form content. I was hoping to at least log the request params, but unfortunately I can't, since it's failing before being routed and due to my inexperience with rails. I'll ask that in a separate question and hopefully be able to edit this question with the request params.
View 1 RepliesI have a scenario where I want to dynamically add words of text to a container so that it forms a paragraph of text which is wrapped neatly according to the size of the parent container. Each text element will have differing formatting, and will have differing user interaction options. For example, imagine the text " has just spoken out about ". Each word will be added to the container one at a time, at run time. The username in this case would be bold, and if clicked on will trigger an event. Same with the news article. The rest of the text is just plain text which, when clicked on, would do nothing.
Now, I'm using Flex 3 so I don't have access to the fancy new text formatting tools. I've implemented a solution where the words are plotted onto a canvas, but this means that the words are wrapped at a particular y position (an arbitrary value I've chosen). When the container is resized, the words still wrap at that position which leaves lots of space.I thought about adding each text element to an Array Collection and using this as a datasource for a Tile List, but Tile Lists don't support variable column widths (in my limited knowledge) so each word would use the same amount of space which isn't ideal. how I can plot words onto a container so that I can retain formatting, events and word wrapping at paragraph level, even if the container is resized?

import mx.controls.TextInput;
import mx.events.ListEvent;
public function init():void {

I have implemented this one. I am getting 5 textboxes with empty value, if I entered some value in each textbox then, I want to get specific 3rd textbox value wen some event trigger.
I have a custom component which contains many promptingTextInput controls. When i click a button, I want the text field of all the promptingTextInputs to become blank. (Note: I have around 60 promptingTextInputs) How do i access the controls dynamically ? I am looking for a flex equivalent of $('input[type=text]') (like in jquery).
View 1 RepliesI made a basic text editor that lets users insert predefined strings into the document with button clicks. What I need to do now is let the user define their own buttons and string values. For example I have a button that inserts "Hello" into the text. The user may want to create a button that adds "Goodbye".To accomplish this I figured I would create a .txt file called buttons.txt or something. i would readutfbytee, loop through it to create the buttons. problem is I know what I want to do but not sure where to start
View 2 RepliesI am attempting to dynamically change the color of a subset/portion of text in a Spark TextArea control. Using the MX-based TextArea, I could leverage the mx.controls.textClasses.TextRange type and change the color directly as follows:
TextRange tr = new TextRange(theTextAreaControl, false, beginIndex, endIndex);
tr.color = somePredefindColor;
Input Parameters to TextRange constructor:
1st argument: The TextArea control that will provide access to the underlying textField property
2nd argument: Indicates the TextRange will not modify the content of the TextArea
3rd argument: The beginning index position in the TextArea text string
4th argument: The ending index position in the TextArea text string
How would I go about doing this for a Spark-based TextArea control? I am looking to dynamically change the font color for a range of text, not just the entire TextArea AND I cannot statically specify the font color. The problem I run into when trying to re-use the TextRange type is that the 1st argument is expected to provide the textField property, which is currently not on the Spark-based TextArea control. I thought about extending the Spark-based TextArea control to provide this accessor property but that seems like overkill and is probably not the best approach.
i am trying to modify during runtime an image in my application, this image is located inside assets folder, so thats why i dissable -use-network=false flag, then i call something like this:img.source="../assets/pict.png";but it's not working.
View 1 RepliesI'm creating a moodboard application where the user can dynamically load an image onto the stage by pressing a thumb of the image in a menu item. I have most of that working but what I would like to know is that, if there is a way the user can interactively scale/transform the image when it is on the stage in the swf file?
View 2 RepliesI am changing image through flex every time i change it saved into server directory with same name(which i am referring to show). So when i refresh my page my browser didn't send new request to server since it's already in request.so didn't getting new image.Tip:- when i clear browser history it will come with new image
View 2 RepliesIs it possible to wrap text around an image? Here is a link of what I would like to do with Flex, not HTML as in the example. Will it be possible to use the textFlow component like we tried here?
<s:TextArea width="100%" height="100%" editable="false">
<s:textFlow>
<s:TextFlow>

In flex, I have HBox in which I have loaded an image. I want to wrap text around it. Hence, there would be an image on right and text will be on left. After the image is cleared, text will be displayed 100% of the width. How can I achieve it?
View 1 RepliesI would like to make a very simple (well, looks simple anyway) image gallery, like Ilyas da Pom's at [URL]..
I want the image part to scale to fit each image dynamically. I'm a brand-spanking new Flash novice, and any guidance would help really; this is just a tiny little personal project, not to be used anywhere commercially.
I am trying to make a text editor in Flex. i can move image on mouse click. Problem is it moves with the key up or down handler. But it moves out of text area after the last line in textarea. And it also doesn't move with scroll.
View 1 RepliesI load an image from a url and add it to the stage.
I need a way to add some text to the image before loading it to the stage !
NOTE: add text over the image after it has been loaded
