I have a strange problem, I have a XMLList with elements who have the attribute position from 0 to x. When I want to add text to a element of that XMLList by the following statement, I get a error message:

As primitives are copied as 'value' not by Reference, this doesnt work:

My goal is to pick a random property on a data Object() and alter that. My approach was to put all the Objects properties into an array, and then randomise that array, and pick the first element. The only problem is of course that, that element is no longer a Reference to the original, so If I change that it wont alter the original...

Is it possible, in flex, to assign multiple states as base for another state? Say I have state "stateA" that adds a button "buttonA" and state "stateB" that adds a button "buttonB". Is it possible to create a state "stateC" that is based on state "stateA" and "stateB"? If not, is there a workaround to accomplish that? Also notice that the button IDs should be "buttonA" and "buttonB" and I can't have several buttons in different states with the same ID ... Here is an example of what I want:

In Flash Professional, I have a MovieClip and that clip has children. Let's say the parent clip is a night sky and the children are different instances of a star MovieClip that animates in a loop. This whole thing compiles down to a NightSky.swc which I use in Flash Builder as part of a larger project.
In Flash Pro, I position the child clips with a high level of precision. From there, I want to assign properties to these "stars." Say, I want to assign "galaxyId" and "isRedGiant" but (and this is key) I want to edit those properties in Flash Professional and have those value accessible in Flex.[code]...
I am amateur in flex, and started my final year project in flex to learn it, I am stuck in place where I have to create rows of drop down lists when the user pressed add more, E.g.: like the ones in mail attachments. I think I have found a way to generate rows, I am not even sure whether it is a correct way, how I generate the rows:

Now when I generate more rows the dropdownlist ids will conflict, so I want to know a way to generate ids, I think I cant even call a function in there.
I want to assign date to Date field that is in DD-MM-YYYY format. That is I receive String Closure_Date which contains date in DD-MM-YYYY format.
I want to assign that date to Date field like:
dtCloseDate.selectedDate=new Date(Closure_Date);
In this case If Closure_Date contains 16/11/2011 it takes 16 as month so it takes 12 and adds remaining 4 months and it returns 04/11/2012.
My question is how to assign date(DD-MM-YYYY) to DateField?
If I use Dateformatter(DD-MM-YYYY) like
dtCloseDate.selectedDate=new Date(Dateformatter.format(Closure_Date));
It Returns NaN

Flex 3 allows you to assign a value to myProperty like this:

I regularly parse XML to get property names and their values then update correlated classes using this technique; however, Flex 4 no longer allows assigning the boolean property. I don't have a work-around.
If you trace the results:

As the View is presented as a static and not a variable. When you try to submit it as a variable in any format (String, Object) an error occurs.

I am building a Flex application with ActionScript 3. Unfortunately I've hit a wall with this one...I would like to be able to apply an upSkin to my dynamically generated button like this:

I made a basic text editor that lets users insert predefined strings into the document with button clicks. What I need to do now is let the user define their own buttons and string values. For example I have a button that inserts "Hello" into the text. I am having difficulty getting a reference to elements added after compile-time using the 'id' property. I have seen a few forum topics suggesting that this isn't possible, and that getting a reference to elements added this way is trickier, but never just exactly what that trick is. I am working on a custom Flex 4 component which is an aggregation of two existing flex components. I would like to be able to specify my own custom properties for the component as well as access the existing public subcomponent properties via MXML. I'm having this frustrating error showing up and I have no idea why. Let me show you my classes and see if you can spot anything wrong.

So the problem I'm having is the compiler is throwing that 1000: Ambiguous reference error for any reference to instance.priority or instance.label. Why??? Instance is typed to IFlexLodeInstance, and IFlexLodeInstance lists method signatures of priority and label getters, and it inherits ILode, which lists method signatures for priority and label setters. What can I do to get the compiler to stop complaining?
