I am using the blitting technique that jeff from uses for creating tiles. I am trying to paint 2 layers of bitmapdata onto a bitmap. One the first layer is the background ( 1 image). and the second layer is the tiles. In that class below. the updateMap is the method that gets called in the loop to repaint the image.

Scaling Background / Whole SWF Object Without Tiling Background

May 15, 2009

I really don't know much about flash or swf files but in updating my portfolio I came across Polaroid gallery. I have managed to update the background jpeg with my own picture and remove the fade effect. However in the original program the background was tileable so when seen in a full screen browser looked fine. As my picture is not tileable I would like to know if it is possible to scale the background or the whole swf object without tiling the background.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Tiling A Background With 100% SWF?

Sep 1, 2005

I am using this code to create a tiled background on a site I'm working on.

tileBG = function () {
tile_width = 128;
tile_height = 128;[code]....

It works great, but because I'm publishing my SWF with noScale at 100% width and height, the background doesnt fill the whole swf, only the size of the actual stage in the FLA. Is there any way I can change this so It will fit accordingly?

Flash - Creating Background In Games?

Sep 10, 2010

What are the best (considered by professionals) approaches while creating a platformer based game for Creating game levels & background (static ones).Create a single background and scale it?or Display it on-the-fly by loading objects (probably repeating them often).

If the first one is the choice then it would become essential to create each level manually of the game & putting level editors difficult.
Also if the later is the choice I find it too processor intensive....my frame rate almost breaks into half, while trying to manage so many objects together on screen.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Website With Sliding Background (4 Scenes)

May 21, 2010

This is my first time using Flash to create a website. I am not familiar with Action Script, its functions classes etc., however I am familiar in programming in JAVA. I will be using ActionScript 3 and Flash CS5. (I have Flash CS4 also if needed). I am trying to create a website with a scrolling background that has 4 different scenes. I have attached an image to illustrate my idea. There will be a user interface, consisting of 4 buttons, which will be on stage at all times. Each of the button will correspond to a different scene of the background. So if the user clicks on the third button, the background will slide itself until the third scene appears on the stage.

Questions in mind:
How would the coding be like? I am planning to apply it to the button. So the background should shift ___ amount of pixels to the left or right depending on which scene the user is currently in. So if background is currently at position 800,0 (so the user is currently in scene 2) and the user clicks on 4th button. The background should move -1600 so the 4th scene will appear on stage. I am guessing there is 16 different cases I have to address. Assuming if that works, how would I also move the other objects on the scenes of background? Such as links to email address or my portfolio.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Character And Background - Creating Illusion Of Movement

Mar 12, 2009

Right basically I have a character and a background. The background scrolls as you press left or right on keyboard to create the illusion of movement. I want the character to flip when you change from holding down left to right and vice versa, but when I do the following code it doubles the size of the character once and then it stays. It flips fine but in the transformed fat size.

Here's the code:
var mySpeed:Number = 10;
function keyIsDown(evt:KeyboardEvent):void{
if(evt.keyCode==Keyboard.RIGHT){
walkingPlane_mc.x+=mySpeed;

ActionScript 2.0 :: Convert MC To Bitmap For BG Tiling?

Jan 25, 2009

I'm building an XML driven video player that will allow users to customize a wide variety of layout/visual features for the player, and one of the important features is letting them switch between a regular background image, and a tiled background. I've been playing around with various methods for tiling using the Bitmap class, and its been working fine, as long as I load the image from the library. However, when I try to load the image dynamically (i.e. through XML), it doesn't jibe.
Here's the code for the tile:

function tile() {
var tile:BitmapData = BitmapData.loadBitmap("linkageIDForBitmap");
this.beginBitmapFill(tile);
this.lineTo(Stage.width, 0);

[code]....

Again, if I write a variable which references the xml node, and use that variable in the loadBitmap function, it doesn't work. I'm assuming this is because the dynamically loaded tile doesn't have a linkage ID attached? Not sure how to do that...
My other thought is to simply load the tile into a movieclip (as I do with all the other content), and then convert the movieclip to a bitmap, then proceed as normal with the code above. I've searched the boards for a method to do this, but have come up empty.

Creating An Animated Background / Flash Animation - Multiple Looped Animations

Oct 27, 2011

I'm creating an animated background/flash animation, in short I have several tweened pieces all moving/swinging around and I want them all to loop at the end of their individual loops. Each piece is on its own layer) I have been using gotoAndPlay(2); (I'm using a preloader so frame 2 is the start). The problem is (If I'm correct here) is the first layer to reach the end runs the "go to and play" resetting everything!. I want each layer to act independantly. Is there a different version of gotoAndPlay(2); that will work or am I looking at things like nested animations/importing individual fla's ect (all of which goes over my head).

ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating Background Preloader To Load Stuff Of User Choice?

Apr 25, 2008

Its meant to be a background preloader, so it loads stuff in, but if the user selects something it stops, loads the choice item and removes it from the "to be loaded"...loadArray. so when it restarts it knows not to load it again

Setback/feature 1: if a user choices to select an item, it will continue to load whatever is loading and start to load the item they want.
Setback/feature 2: the preloader will not restart until the user calls userCont().... should I have a timer so after awhile it kicks back in?

Error: just realised I have to stop it when it gets the end of the list.

Code:
stop();
//loadArray = stuff to load
//targetArray = target for stuff to load into
//loader(loadArray, targetArray);
// call loader function

Actionscript 3 :: Create A Parallax Effect In Flash?

Dec 15, 2009

I am adding "layer" objects to the stage with a depth value.

I have then created my own camera class. When I tell the camera to move to the right what Im actually doing is telling each layer object to move to the left.

The distance that the layer moved to the left is based on the value of its depth variable...

var fCameraDepth = 1;
var fTan:Number = Math.tan( fCameraMovement / fCameraDepth );
oLayer.x += fTan * fLayerDepth

This works well and gives me a really nice parallax effect. The problem I'm having is that I want to be able to tell the camera to look at a movie clip on any layer but I'm having trouble figuring out how to convert the movie clips coordinates to the cameras depth.

Im trying something like this...

var fCameraDepth = 1;
var fCameraPosition:Number = oCamera.x;
// the layer will have a + or - x val compared to the camera so we
