i want to populate a horizontalList component from a xml file, the width value will be inside the xml file as well with all the data.actually i have this code:

I tried using an array of objects as a dataprovider. The item renderer works and the horizontallist behaves as I expect it to. However, when I use an xml file, it's empty.... I don't know why it's not working.
I am having some issues when trying to skin the scrollbar on a horizontalList with Degrafa. The scrollbar doesn't show up at all. View 1 RepliesI have a HorizontalList that is resized at runtime. The problem is that the items are not adjusting their height to the height of the HorizontalList. I use an item renderer (vBox) which has its height set to 100%. But the items always stay at their initial size.

As you see, I try to make my HorizontalList focused when application is loaded. And I actually receive Received focus message in console. But I expected that I would be able to navigate over list elements with arrow keys after setting focus. But that's not the case. They work only after clicking component with mouse. How to make list have focus and respond to arrow keys?
I'm trying to remove an eventlistener on (in this specific case) a HorizontalList. The list is initialized with the property itemRollOver="playPreview(event)" I'd like to remove this eventListener by switching state and stating something like: <mx:SetEventHandler target="{horList}" name="itemRollOver" handlerFunction="null" />
This doesn't seem to work. The event is still handled and playPreview(event:ListEvent) is still called. How to properly do this? (I know I can do it in Actionscript, but I specifically want to do it by means of state switching)

I am creating a nav in flex that pulls in buttons dynamically from xml. THe problem i am having is setting the button width to the text width. currently the buttons are all the same width and if the text is larger then it just cuts off. I'm using the label as a renderer. In some cases, I'd like it to automatically size to the text, and in other cases, I'd like it to be a percentage width of its container. Obviously, I could use two separate labels, one for each of the above cases, but I'm curious if it's possible to reset the label to its default behavior.

The loader mc has 3 nested mc's.A bg mc, progressBar mc, and loadBar mc.The loader and all nested mc's scale properly when I test it in the flash IDE but once I place the swf in a html page then the width is not accurate anymore. I'd like to create a tab system where the tab text is populated by an external XML file, and the tab width is based on whatever the width of the text is.
I couldn't just use button symbols because when I resized them the text got squished
I have an mc that loads thumbnail images which are then displayed sequentially in a scroller. I have an array that contains the individual widths of the images and i can get them correlating to the specific images. However: when I try to change the hit size of the images (controlled by a hitSize mc which is just a red box) it won't change the ._width of the hitSize mc according to the variable.
This is what I can do:

Within my AS3 class I am calling this.width, and the value it returns is always 1, even though this is impossible given the contents of the object.
Is this a standard behavior for AS3?

In my Flex 4 app I would like all my alert boxes to be a specific width and height, how do I specify that in the CSS? I want to avoid having to specify the width and height every time I want to show an alert, that's why I'd like to set it in the CSS, but does not look like there's a way to.. Something like this does not work:

View 1 RepliesI have 2 movie clips, one being loaded into a container MC via "loadMovie();"In the main movie there is a variable with no value, in the external movie there are 5 frames, each with a value to update the variable in the main movie.
IE: if on frame 1, global value = 1 / if on frame 2, global value = 2 / etc etc I'm familiar with passing variables INTO an external swf, but am stumped on how to do it the reverse way.
I would like to store a hex colorPicker value in a variable and then cast the value of the var backout to a textInput. The textInput is just to see witch hexcolor i have choosen.
thus meaning seeing 0x000000 in the textInput.
what i've done now is pretty simple i have bound the flex colorPicker directly to my textInput. but i want to store the value from the colorPicker in a var first and than spit it backout to the textInput to see the value that i have picked.
When i pick a color value that begins with the number 0 it drops the 0's at the beginning of the number and only spits out the numbers greater than 0. (000033 becomes 33, FF0000 stays FF0000). I want to catch the whole value or write some kind a function to figure out how many 0's got dropped and concatenate it together with 0x. Store that all into a var and bind it to the flex TextInput.

I have a Canvas control with a fixed width and a horizontal scrollbar.I'm trying to find the actual width of the control.The .width (fixed width) + the part being revealed by the scrollbar.I tried explicitWidth, width + maxHorizontalScrollPosition, and some other combos but non of them hit the spot.
I am looking at the SimpleButton entirely wrong. Here's what I'm doing (inside of a MovieClip):

the close_btn.width and height remain 0. Am I supposed to just rely on the DisplayObject members of the SimpleButton completely and ignore width/height/x/y or what?
is there a way to make a minimum width and stop resize? I have a menu I am building that is locked to the bottom of the browser and 3 buttons on the left and a movieClip on the right. When you resize the browser window - currently - you can make the button on the right sink under the three on the left.

In Flex 4, I have a canvas that I'd like to set border-width on via css. I can set the border color and border style, but the border width remains 1 pixel wide no matter what.
