I have data model (dataProvider as ArrayCollection) i want to display in few views , each view should show filtered data. As you probably know, filterFunction is property of ArrayCollection,so I can't use this solution (unless creating new instance of ArrayCollection for each view on top original and impementing filterFunction).
View 2 RepliesOver the past few weeks I have been building a prototype application using a Flex front end connected to a J2EE backend using blazeDS. The prototype is an experiment to learn flex and see what its suitability is for a complex trading application requiring a large number of dynamic updates (i.e > 20 a second) via a pub sub type model. During some lightweight performance tests it's become apparent that I need to use multiple threads to ensure the UI remains stable when receiving a large number of updates from the server. All was going well until I discovered that flex has a single threaded programming model!
From a quick Google it looks as though there are numerous hacks to implement thread like behavior. I am sure many people must have been faced with a similar problem. Can people let me know: Are there any good threading libs that are well maintained etc Do other RIA technologies such as silverlight have the same problems. Why did abobe implement a single thread model? Are there any other tricks I can use to ensure my UI is stable.
I have an ArrayCollection bound to a view, I use a filterFunction on this view to only display parts of the contents. Additionally I have another component where I want to display other parts of the ArrayCollection.
What I would like to do is wrap ArrayCollections around each other, meaning I could have one ArrayCollection containing the model data, and then two separate outer ones where I can set the filterFunction property (setting this in the model seems inappropriate in all cases). Is this possible somehow? If not, how else can this be solved, preferably without forcing model logic to end up in my view?
Often multiple instances of the view component would be used in multiple places in an application. Each time I do this, I register the same mediator with a different name. When a notification is dispatched, I attach the name of the mediator to the body of the notification, like so:

I have a list of txt files and when one is selected it is read and assigned to a string variable. this string is then pushed to a view : pushView(viewer, string), where the string is displayed in a textarea. I want to also pass the relative path of the file also. Is this possible to pass two strings?

I have designed "the core" of the application i am working on ( it communication with the server, data processing, etc. ), and now i am a bit stuck on the User Interface, because i wish it to be specific, and probably different on the different platforms it goin to run on ( PC, tablet, gsm ).
My question basically is How to separate the "core" of the application, which must remain the same for all of the platforms, from the UI's which shall be very different applications ?
I want a chart that has several separate series running in rows across. They are largely separate charts and should not overlap, but all share the same horizontal datetimeaxis. They don't share the same y-axis, however and that's where I'm getting stuck.I have tried having a linechart series and then a plotchart series, but it will only allow a single <mx:series> per chart without having them inside the same series which as far as I can tell will place the charts on top of each other in the z-axis. I can stack them and have them completely separate charts, but it was proving to be somewhat irritating having them align correctly.
Is there any reasonable way of combining multiple charts into one like this? Basically having rows in a table where each row is a different chart but the columns are consistent. or am I going to be best served just by stacking separate ones? an illustration of what i'm going for is here: http:[url]........
In one of our project we are using flex for front end, blazeds/java in the backend. Its an existing code where services are prewritten. I have to make calls to 3 services in the backend (basically 3 remote objects) and get their result and store the result in an object and show the data of this object in a view.
Now in front end we are using Flex and Parsley Framework. I was thinking of the following approaches.
1) Making commands for each service call and storing the result in a shared object (model) and then displaying this model in the view. In this approach the problem is some services are needed in some other web pages, but they donot need the same model. How should i handle this scenario ? Should i make a asynchronous remote call and fetch the result and then again dispatch and event with the event object storing the result.
2) Making a service call , wait for the result then make another call and wait for the result and then make other call, not sure if this is the right way ?
I have an application in flash, I build in ActionScript 3.0 Flash IDE, my application loads some external swfs which mentioned via XML file. Its working fine at the moment. But I need to compile all these external SWFs and xml file into single exe file. How can I compile like this. or how can I code like this?

You can see an example, the application is build in .net and it import pdf and publish it as flash projector or web based(swf). How is it compiling all the external SWF files.
I need to display the number of items in a List component that has a filtered ArrayCollection as its data provider. I don't see a way to get the filtered collection's length.

I'm assigning the event.result from my remote object call to three different array collections, each with its own filter function. When I assign and refresh the filter functions, they each affect all array collections. So, the results of the last array collection refresh end up in all three datagrids.

I want to split the username into lastname, firstname, address and some other stuff. Can we have multiple rows in the grid for one image? Tried multi-line, it works but we need to keep adding spaces and its cumbersome. Since each row in the flex datagrid is represented by one index in the XMLList which is enumerated, is there a way to have more than one row assigned to one image and shown in the grid? something like this.

I have a maven project that produces many artifacts. Of course it is kind of against maven best practice (one pom one artifact), but it is Adobe Flex project that produces many *swf modules and it is really makes no sence to create a separate project for each module.
For me it would be very convinient to handle all swf modules as a single zip archive eg. zip archive would be my artifact.
So I am looking for the way to pack and unpack my zip artifact with maven.

I have created a simple mxml file with code as follows:

Now I want to apply different font size, font color and font type and background color on each row i.e each of the three skinnableContainers.Currently I have defined 3 different skin classes for each of row but I think this is a bad programing. I should create a single skin class for outermost container i.e BorderContainer and any how provide different fonts and background color to all the 3 child containers through that skin class. So, is it possible that I can create single skin class that can provide different decorations to each of the child container.
I want each item in a list to change to a totally unique view file. Instead of 10 items in a list all going to 1 new view but with different info being generated I want 10 different view, 1 per item in the list. I can't find any examples of how to do this and I have been tryingo to make it for for a while. This is for a mobile app.

I am working in Flex. I have an arraycollection which is used to fill a tilelist with images. I am using filter method of arraycollection to filter out certain images from tilelist based on a selected value from combobox. The issue is that when the images are filtered out they just vanish suddenly. But I want to give some effect to them when they are filtered out, say slow fade effect or zoom effect. I tried removedEffect, hideEffect etc. but in vain.
View 1 RepliesI have a Flex 4 app with an external ItemRenderer inside of a DataGroup for a repeating form. The DataGroup dataprovider is an ArrayCollection (coll_sites). In the documentParent I have a trio of comboBoxes (Status, Year, Area) that trigger a filter function that operates directly on coll_sites.The itemRenderer has a series of textInputs and comboBoxes. Three of these comboBoxes are tied to fields in coll_sites (again, Status, Year and Area) that are filtered by the aforementioned parentDocument comboBoxes.The problem I am having is that in the itemRenderer when the field is one of the filtered ones, the itemRenderer ComboBox will not close. If it's not filtered, there is no problem. I have confirmed that the problem ComboBox updates the ArrayCollection appropriately, it just won't close unless another Item in the dropdown is selected.[code]In the ItemRenderer code above, the ComboBox for STATUS works exactly as it should but YEAR stays open after changing. In my full code, I have three such filtered fields and all three behave exactly the same. The other six fields which are not filtered, close appropriately.

The problem lies in the fact, that when the ArrayCollection _data is filtered (because the Checkbox "Even" is set), then the 2nd loop in the test case (for adding new items) adds items (the "35") again and again - because it's filtered and thus not visible.
I have multiple items in my app that I would like the user to click on.Some items are completely different classes.The classes dispatch events and then when the events are captured, some modifications are done to the transform properties of a loosely coupled display object.I want two separate classes to dispatch the same type of event, since I already have an image class that draws images based on a given url... I want the classes to dispatch the events, but then I think I want the difference to be detected when the event comes along... i.e., I would like to recognize the 'origin' or 'sub-type' of the event. Some sort of if/then logic would suffice.

What prevents Silverlight MVVM to be implemented like Flex ? Doesn't Silverlight have same capability in event system to do the same? If yes why does Silverlight do things more complicated what's the advantages then ? Is it about using Class Interfaces which are more strongly typed? What are the disadvantages also ? For example as for implementing MULTIPLE VIEWS for 1 View-Model does Flex implementation make it also more obvious?
I'm updating the x and y properties of my Model.as when I drag a Sprite around the stage. However, because both setter functions dispatch an Event.CHANGE, the property that is updated second seems to get locked in place (meaning it doesn't seem to be updated with the correct value as it locks the Sprite in a horizontal or vertical line of movement).

If it had been an ordinary HTML webapp I would have created three different HTML-templates/pages for each view.
What is the recommended way to handle such application views in Flex?
I'd like to make an application for PlayBook (using Flex) that has the UI similar to the PlayBook web browser. By similar I mean I want to implement a menu that is shown when the user swipes down from the top bezel of the tablet. I like this feature because I can draw on it, place tons of other objects and handle all kind of events without using screen space when not needed. Plus the PlayBook does not have a "Menu" button like some phones have.Depending on configurations chosen from the first view a number of other views will be pushed onto the the stack view. When the user will access the pull down menu I'd like to show in form of thumbnail snapshot my main (configuration view) and the rest of the views that are on the view stack. This will basically show the user what is going on in different view and let him choose to which one to switch.[code]The menu is accessible from any view, but the code for event handler is in my main MXML file (project.MXML), I found this to be the only way of having one menu for all the views. I managed to pull down the menu from any view and displaying a thumbnail of the current view.
How to get access to all the views. I've been trying all day and all my trials give me access to the active view and my menu object. Here is some code to show what is going on:[code]As I mentioned above this for loop will successfully do the job for the current view then it will crash.Does anyone know how to loop through all the views? This is my first application with flex so if there are any alternatives to my approach I'll be glad to try them. Although I'd like to stick with a single ViewNavigator as opposed to tabbed navigator and multiple views instead of states.

I have a project that has 4 views where I'm using the tabBar with viewStack/NavigatorContent. I have a couple HTTPServices set up gathering the XML and converting to Bindable ArrayCollections. When and how is the best way to pass that data to such things as charts, dataGrids, etc. that aren't seen until the user clicks a tab? Right now I have each item set up with creationComplete functions that pass it then. Although it seems to be working, is this the best way, or is there something better and maybe even quicker?
