Flex :: Localization - Adobe Alert Title Shows Localized Asian Language Correctly?
Apr 8, 2011
I'm creating an alert popup within an Adobe Flex 4 project using the following:
Alert.show(resourceManager.getString('myresource', 'ErrorMessage'), resourceManager.getString('myResource', 'ErrorMessageTitle'), Alert.OK|Alert.CANCEL,this,onExitSuccess,null,Alert.CANCEL);
When my language is of Asian origin (Japanese, Korean, Chinese, etc) the title appears correctly on the Alert, but the message does not. I'm seeing the correct localization values EVERYWHERE ELSE in my application except the Alert popup and in one other instance on a mx:Checkbox control.
I've checked my app and the strings are being returned from the resourceManager correctly but just aren't rendering to the screen. Does anyone have any insight as to what might be causing this behavior?

By default, Flex uses signed .swz files to hold the Flex Framework classes. I noticed that under Adobe Flash Builder 4 > sdks > [version] > frameworks > locale > [locale] there are multiple languages supported.en_USen_GBzh_CNetc etcThe files in these directories vary in that they contain a "_rb.swc" at the end of each file. Files include datavisualization_rb.swc, spark_rb.swc, framework_rb.swc, etc etc. These are different from the rsls signed framework resources stored as .swz in framework .rsls. Since localized signed versions of the framework don't appear to be available, can I use these locale > [LOCALE] .swc versions instead as RUNTIME SHARED RESOURCES?
I DON'T want to compile different versions of my app for each locale, rather want to link the localized framework resource libraries at runtime. It would be nice to have the contents of the sdks > [VERSION] > frameworks > locale directory copied into my bin-debug/bin-release folder when I build my app.Is this possible? How would I set this up in Flash Builder 4?My assumption (I know about assumptions) is that there is a way to set up the Flex Build Path or supply compiler options that would cause all of the locales stored in the locales > [LOCALE] folder to be included into the bin-debug/bin-release of the project.

I'm trying to center the title text on my Alert control. I'm using the following CSS right now:
mx|Alert{
text-align: center;
}
The problem is that the above code centers my alert content as well, not just the title text. What selector do I need to access just the title of the alert control? I'm using the 4.x SDK and Spark.
Code:
Alert.Show();

I am trying to figure out the best way for doing spellcheck in flex application. I need a support of multiple languages, like: english, russian and so on. Also, I don't need a realtime spellchecking, only in some particular moment(for example, user click button: "check my text"). I found clientside solution here - flex:SpellCheck , but looks like it able to check only english text. So now I am thinking serverside solution, that recieve a text and needed language, check it(for example with aspell) and returns result. How do you think: is this a good way or I am missing something?

I am having an issue where I show an AlertBox message when the user hits ENTER and the focus is in a text area. The pop up works fine, but when the user hits enter the Alert closes as expected, but the TextArea listener receives the ENTER event from the Alert and pops the dialog up again. I have tried a number of ways to catch and eat the event but so far I have not been lucky. Is there way to accomplish this?

myTextInput.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP, handleKeyStrokes);[code]....

I downloaded a XML based website flash template and made some modifications to it. With this template there was few fonts included in separate folder (I had to install them to view swf and edit fla correctly) after all my mods done I published it to swf file and opened local file with browser, everything was working perfectly at this moment. Then I asked my friend if it could upload it on his server to check if this website looks the same on the web. I noticed that text (which is written with custom font that was included) is either missing or misplaced.
I tried to emblem font, by putting it into my fla lib, but it get me nowhere. Maybe I didn't do that correctly.
PS.
I was working with this tut: [URL] I got myself up to the step "Creating a new Font symbol instance using ActionScript". Text in my template is imported from XML file, I don't know where to apply any AS code to make text load with embedded font. However I find this tut for AS3 while my template is AS2 one .

I am completely new to the whole FlashDevelop/Flash/etc toolchain, but wanted to do some experimenting. I installed FlashDevelop and Flex SDK on my laptop, and thinks worked out just fine, except for one thing: the compiler messages are localized! Messages like "gebruik van een niet-gedefinieerde eigenschap" (Dutch.. sort of) are limiting my productivity. I don't recognize them because they look nothing like what I'm used to in any other programming environment, as a proper sentence they make even less sense than English error messages, and I certainly can't google them properly. Now I've already seen there are a couple of xml files and java/mxmlc/fcsh/etc configs I can tweak, but nothing so far helped.

Does anyone know of a workaround for loading an AS3 swf into an existing AIR/Flex (Flex 3) application and having the loaded SWF retain its own reference to its stage (not the loader's stage)?
I've tried the loadForCompatibility property on SWFLoader, but that isn't giving me the behavior I'm wanting. The loaded swf still has the main AIR app's stage set.

According to the Adobe asdocs, Flex framework files are supposed to be able to be loaded at runtime. These localized framework files, the ones that exist at (on windows) C:Program Files (x86)AdobeAdobe Flash Builder 4.5sdks4.5.0frameworkslocale, are responsible for items such as button text on Alert Dialogs, and a host of other controls. My expectation is that once these framework files are loaded I would see these resources available in my Flex app.
I've set up my project as follows:
MyProject
-src
-Flex4.5
-Referenced Libraries
[code]....
Now the asdocs state that in order to do this, you have to set the compiler settings to read
-locale=en_US,da_DK,de_DE,es_ES,fi_FI,fr_FR,it_IT,ja_JP,ko_KR,nb_NO,nl_NL,pt_BR,ru_RU,sv_SE,zh_CN,zh_TW -allow-source-path-overlap=true -source-path=locale/{locale}
which I have done.My Build Path Libraries for Flex 4.5 - C:Program Files (x86)AdobeAdobe Flash Builder 4.5sdks4.5.0 are set to be Runtime Shared library (of note, the {locale} subfolder says "Merged into code")
But when I change the language in the browser, I'm not seeing any of the framework resources.Also, when I build my project, I don't see any indication of the locale-oriented resource files in the bin-release. Since we only deploy the contents of the bin-release folder (and not the entire project), how is this supposed to work?I am also seeing .swz files in my bin-release (and I know these arent the localized framework resources).
Does anyone have any experience with Runtime Framework Localization?? What am I doing wrong? My expectation is that once I build my project (with the framework resources externalized) that the app would be able to load those resources, but this isn't happening and I am not interested in compiling a different version of my app for all of the locales I support.

There is lot of integration in almost all modules. Here the requirement was, i want to display a comboBox with French/Spanish options. Some places in my flex app, I use ResourceManager.getInstance().getString, and other places I use mxml @Resource tag to retrieve resource properties dynamically loaded from ResourceManager. resourceManager.loadResourceModule(resourceModuleURL); But only strings from ResourceManager.getInstance().getString show proper locale based values, while the @Resource tag only returns values from en_US resource. I guess it is because en_US is what I compiled with (-locale=en_US ). So I am wondering if I am using a dynamicly-loaded resource, do I have to abandon the @Resource tag and use ResourceManager.getInstance().getString ?

I was excited to find out that Adobe released the data visualization for free so I can use the fancy charts and all with my projects even though I don't have Flex Builder Professional. So I installed the new 3.4 sdk along with the data visualizations. Most all of my projects did fine except for one. This particular project uses localizations. Are there any new compiler arguments that I need to include? I current have -source-path=locale/{locale} -allow-source-path-overlap=true. I get the inconsistent linkage error below:

I'm doing an aplication with Flash CS4, using adobe air in as3. I have some frames, and in the frame 25 there's a stop, when user clicks a button, go ahead to frame 27 and stage resize the whole screen, just like a FULL_SCREEN, and then I load an pdf. I can't use FULL_SCREEN or FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE property, because doesn't works the pdf loaded, so I would like to simulate it. The application it will be use in windows ( I am not sure if XP, vista, but windows). So when resize the stage, to load pdf, then and ONLY then, I want the title bar disappears, just to simulate full_screen. How can I do, to make in a desktop application that?

I've followed the Adobe instrunctions on how to create an app without windows (link).
The gist is that you can do this by hiding or closing the original nativeWindow and creating a new one with theUTILITY or LIGHTWEIGHT property.
Unfortunately, when an application is launched more than once, the new nativeWindow is created again with each launch. This is highly undesirable.
I've tried setting variables with the launch of the application, but it seems like these are not accessible by the new instances of the application. The weird thing is: AIR apps are not supposed to have multiple intances (should be impossible)! And there actually is only one instance according to the windows task manager and the fact that there is only one systemtray icon.

i have designed a gaming kiosk app in as3.i am using it on a Sony vaio l pc (like hp's touchsmarts) in windows 7. the app doesn't need any multi-touch gestures (only single touch clicks and drags) so i am using mouse events. everything is fine (including mouse click and move events) except that a single touch to the screen (with no move) doesn't fire a mouse down. it is fired only after a small move of the finger
outside the app, on my desktop, i see that the small windows 7 cursor jumps immediately to where a finger is placed, meaning this issue isn't a hardware or a windows problem but rather how internally the flash app receives "translated" touch-to-mouse events from the os.for example, in a windows Solitaire game, a simple touch to the screen immediately highlights the touched card.in my app, a button will change to the down state only if i touch it and also move my finger slightly (click events - down and up - are triggered fine).shouldn't the MOUSE_DOWN event trigger exactly like how a TOUCH_BEGIN would in the new touchevent class?

I've created an application that includes a number of Modules and uses Parsley framework. Ant is used to build the application.Recently I thought of using Resource Bundles and implemented it in the system by creating a locale/en_US folder under the src. I added a portal.properties file with all my strings defined.In my modules, I added the metadata
<fx:Metadata>
[ResourceBundle("portal")]
</fx:Metadata>
In the ant build file, I added the below lines within mxmlc.
<locale>@{locale}</locale>
<source-path path-element="${myapp.flex.app.locale}/{locale}"/>
<include-resource-bundles>portal</include-resource-bundles>
The build works fine and when I deploy the application and open it in my browser, I'm greeted with many errors thrown by the Flash player.But if I dismiss the messages, its working fine. My strings are replaced with the values in the property file, but how do I stop the runtime errors being thrown up?I get the below error.
Error: Unable to load resource module from portal at MethodInfo-637()at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction()
