Javascript :: Seeking Implementation Of Friend-selector Type Capability Without Invite / Request

May 19, 2011

I may be mistaken, but it appears that Facebook only supports friend-selector dialogs within a request/invite form. I take that to mean that since our app is just allowing the user to arrange a subset of friends for display within the app (no message to the friend), we must use something that isn't available from Facebook. It would be nice to know if I'm wrong, but important to have some clear pointers on how to get a friend ID back from the dialog without an invite or request getting sent to the friend.

I've searched for solutions and the closest I've come is a description of something that implements what I want offered for license by Mike Knoop. I've tried making contact, but still don't know whether the code (or license terms) will work. It would be really nice to have a solution that was more open, but any pointers to widgets/libraries that include this capability

Facebook :: Prompting The User To Send An Application Request To A Friend?

I have a facebook canvas app (flash).

I have a user who is visiting the app.

I have a button that the user clicks for the purpose of inviting a friend to the app.I understand that this can be done via the js sdk: http[url].....However I am already using the facebook_as3_api, and I would prefer to avoid using multiple facebook api's. Does the facebook_as3_api have a way of doing this, and if not, why not?

Css :: Disable Flex Type Selector Warning?

Sep 30, 2009

I'm building a somewhat large Flex project that includes several modules (a single Flex project that produces multiple SWFs)

Right now, I have a single css file, being loaded in the main SWF tag:

<s:Application ... >
<fx:Style source="css/main.css" />
...
</s:Application>

[Code]....

And repeat for Button, TextArea, etc etc. I have so many useless warnings, it is impossible to see if there are any valid ones.

Is this warning caused by something I'm doing wrong? The styles are all being applied correctly and appears to work just the way I want at runtime.

NOTE: I've tried the -show-unused-type-selector-warnings=false compiler flag, and it does not work...that's for a similar but different warning.

Use A SWF As A Web Request Proxy Between Javascript And Server?

May 23, 2009

I know I can call my server directly from javascript. However, I want to do this through a non-GUI SWF file. I'm fairly new to Flash but have gotten all the CS3 tools from work. Does anyone know of any examples on:

1. how to make a web request from within flash provided the URL, post content, and timeout

2. how to call a Flash API from javascript asynchronously

3. how to detect whether the browser being used can support my SWF (I don't want it to prompt to install Flash if they don't have it yet)

I'm actually hoping someone has already done this and has a sample already built.

Javascript :: Determine Ajax (XHR) Request Sender?

Jul 8, 2010

Is there a way in any browser to find out who (which piece of code) actually sent an Ajax request? What I mean: in firebug one can monitor network activity (in the Net tab) but there is no way of guessing where the request was initiated from.

Does anybody know firefox/firebug extensions or maybe other browser's extensions to show request source (whether it is javascript code in particular file at particular line or browser plugin Flash/Silverlight/etc)?

Flash :: Emailing Invite Created In Doesn't Work?

(mine is the only one that works). I then tried exporting the flash to a gif but the quality is really poor. Any way to correct that?? I can't believe that this so complicated. Is there a piece of code that I am missing? Can this even be done successfully? The last animated invite I did was in photoshop and was nearly as complicated as this one and didn't want to mess with it.

Javascript :: Simulate MiddleClick Behaviour With NavigateToURL(request, "_blank")?

Jan 16, 2012

I'm trying to make a custom button in flash, which when clicked, will open a URL in a new tab/window, WITHOUT stealing focus from the current Flash tab/window.

The classic navigateToURL(request, "_blank"); will open the new tab, but also bring it up. I want it to stay away minding it's own business, just as if I had middle-clicked on a link on a HTML page.

I would at least want the user to be able to see a short tween of the currently clicked thumbnail moving and fading to the upper-right corner of the gallery, to symbolize the fact that it's opening in a new tab. This isn't possible because as soon as you click, the new tab steals focus, and leaves my flash thumbnail stuck in the onhover state and the tween over. Delaying the click action, will trigger the popup blocker.

Could it perhaps be possibru to load the target page somehow in the background and display the tab when the loading is complete? (so you won't have to stay and look at it while the images download) How about a background worker from HTML5? - haven't looked much into those yet. Would probably still trigger the popup blocker.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Fullscreen Resizing Keeping Images Centered. Solution=Demonoid Invite?

Jul 25, 2009

Hate to drop some bribe on my first post and all but I need answers fast and if any of you have been waiting for as long as I did for a demonoid acct you should be able to figure this out real fast Anyone with some decent flash/as2 skills should be able to figure this out real quick. First one to send back a working file gets the invite code.Ok long story short I purchased a fullscreen xml gallery from FlashDen that is supposed to resize. Here is the link to the demo...Well problem is it only resizes the images based on their width and not their height. (Panorama would show fine but a tall portrait would just go off the page) You will notice in that demo how the resizing is fixed to the side of the painting and not the bottom.

Well, to me this seams useless because I really need every user to be able to see the full pictures no matter what screen resolution they are at and no matter how they adjust their browser window.Believe me when I come posting on threads it means I have spend many many hours trying to figure it out myself...In this case I have spent 30 hours trying to solve this in the last two days....Now I am over the deadline I gave to my client/family member and am still at square one basically.Also note I have figured out how to make it so that it fixes to the bottom and thus shows the tall images in full but when I do this it is no longer centered in the page.

I am really tired and worn out but would love to work with someone's advice to make this a reality.Attached is everything you would need. Please note that by downloading this attachment you are agreeing to only using these files to your new friend Sean and would never think about using this for your own project.Attachment is too big...~3Mb so I had to put it on a server.. Grab it here.

if(heightRatio<widthRatio){
eval(getResizeClip)._width = widthRatio*bgWidth;
eval(getResizeClip)._height = widthRatio*bgHeight;

Professional :: Flash 9 Destroys Dual Boot Capability?

Feb 8, 2010

I use a dual-boot computer, with one partition for Linux (Debian) and one for Windows XP.  I can't use Flash on Linux as Adobe has never ported it to that platform. So I put my Flash on the Windows partition.Unfortunately, while I have no trouble with Flash 8 on the Windows partition, when I attempt to open Flash 9 on it it crashes the entire system.

My husband found an article in the Winter 2009-2010 issue of 2600, the Hacker Quarterly magazine; it seems that in CS3, which Flash 9 is part of, Adobe has written its copy protection code in such a way as to cause a dual-boot machine to become unbootable after one uses Adobe software.I don't understand all the technical issues, but as the article states, "even though you have paid Adobe real money for their software, they will still potentially ruin your dual-boot system."

I realize Adobe doesn't consider Linux users numerous enough to accommodate,but by taking my money for their product,the company has an obligation to give me value in return.The value I expect is to be able to use the software I paid for - it's not up to Adobe to decide which OS I should use.At least they could warn people that you can't use CS3(and probably not CS4) on a dual-boot system.I will now start learning to use Inkscape immediately.

Javascript :: Algorithm Does An HTML SELECT Element Uses To Show Results As Type?

Jan 21, 2010

In most browsers, when you have one in focus and you type something, the combobox will try to find the value within its options and show the closest one. I was wondering what kind of algorithm is used for that.I don't think its Levenshtein or similar since it only works with the beginning of the string.I'm thinking that it works by keeping a buffer of what has been written, and tries to find a string starting with that... if it doesn't find anything, it clears the buffer, and searches a string beginning with the last character pressed.I already prototyped this, and it works quite ok, with one caveat... In HTML, when you repeatedly press the same key, it will rotate between all options starting with that character.
