Javascript :: Algorithm Does An HTML SELECT Element Uses To Show Results As Type?

In most browsers, when you have one in focus and you type something, the combobox will try to find the value within its options and show the closest one. I was wondering what kind of algorithm is used for that.I don't think its Levenshtein or similar since it only works with the beginning of the string.I'm thinking that it works by keeping a buffer of what has been written, and tries to find a string starting with that... if it doesn't find anything, it clears the buffer, and searches a string beginning with the last character pressed.I already prototyped this, and it works quite ok, with one caveat... In HTML, when you repeatedly press the same key, it will rotate between all options starting with that character.

Suppose, that I need to have a HTML control inside my Flex/AIR app. The user should be able to click somewhere into the currently rendered HTML-page and the flex app should know, which DOM element the user clicked. Ideally, the app would be able to retrieve the DOM path of the selected element. Posting back the innermost surrounding DIV-element to some Flex/AIR method would be fine too.

I have an html page with a flash movie embded in it, that flash movie contains a button. I want to pass the id of an element on the containing html page to the flash movie so that when the button is clicked, I get the text of that element in flash (i.e. innerHTML).
So, my question is basically two questions:
How to pass something from HTML/Javascript to flash? How to access an element on the containing html page from flash? (What ActionScript code is needed to do that?)

Is there a way to set focus to the embed HTML element using JavaScript? Test case: embedded YouTube videos on a page.
I have no control over the embedded Flash element. So, is there a way to set focus on it by using only JavaScript?
I read somewhere that calling the element.focus() method works only in IE. I need a browser-independent way that works in Chrome/Firefox.

i use FBML for the FB application.I have a flash and the flash suppose to call a javascript on the page. I read so many websites trying to figure it out but still having problem.Here is the Webpage with the javascript:

when i test, the flash loaded. The code goes through everything and show "SENT" in the flash text box. However, it doesn't seem like it is calling the javascript and change the text in the HTML page.is there something wrong I did? i try the ExternalInteface.call method but doesn't work neither. ALSO, when i run it in FireFox, not error popup.however, when i run it in IE, I got this:
VerifyError: Error #1033: Cpool entry 36 is wrong type.
ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable FBJS is not defined.

I am refactoring some code. I have a PHP page that contains a MySQL query and stores the result in a PHP variable $my_result. The code is supposed to receive one system id and then scan around that system in all directions, with each direction having its own length. It is like scanning a rectangle around that system where 9*9 = 81 systems.The code works very well; but the problem. I get 8 duplicate results and there is a complete row missing from the results. The one just above the middle row. I think the problem is in the topsystem integer but I don't know what is wrong with it.[code]if you watch the part of the code that has if statements. this part handle the edges.specially zero and 10k. about what i want to do. think about it like a 9*9 dots field in rectangular shape. has 9 rows and 9 columns. each dot has an id from 1 to 10k. the input is the id of the dot in the center of the field (column 5, row 5). as now i know this centeral dot id. i want to loop through the whole field to find the other dots ids using topsystem(the distance between the centeral dot to the upper edge).downsystem (the distance between central dot to the lower edge). leftsystem (the distance between central dot and left edge).rightsystem (the distance between central dot and right edge).the code is working fine but there is 8 missing ids that replaced by 8 duplicated ids.

Using the web services panel, I've connected to a web service, but all the method calls will only show the param structures/types - not the result structures/types. To the best of my knowledge, I'm sending the right parameters, in the right structure, but always I get an empty response.The web services panel:

Say I start at a leaf node, and I traverse up the tree by using .parent(). I need an exit condition once it hits root. At the moment, I'm using parent.@name != "root", where name is just an attribute, but shouldn't I be able to check the type of element as well? How? Also, is there another way to end the traversal in as3?

I'm trying to make a memory like game. It might be called Simon or Simple Simon or something. Basically something is shown for a second and then gone, then the user clicks that something. Then two or three things are shown in order and then gone and the user clicks the order.
I'm stuck at the very beginning, just showing something from an array for half a second or so then stopping and then starting over and adding one more element.

This is a problem I'm having in actionscript, but just as easily applies to Javascript or Jquery. Basically, I have 3 select boxes, e.g.:

When a color is chosen - I want the size and type to filter out only those which are available for that color. Further, when a user then chooses a size, the type should reduce further, and the color should also be filtered according to the size.
