Javascript :: Building An Online Slideshow / Presentation That Tracks And Makes Sure Visitor Is Actually Going Through The Whole Thing
Feb 2, 2011
I am trying to build an online teach tool that shows a presentation/slideshow. It needs to have the ability to track and make sure users are staying through the whole process. The client used this example to show me what they were looking for visually:[URL] Now, I let them know that with a flash video, there would really be no way to do any sort of tracking. What I envision is creating a multi page slideshow which has you click next for the next page. This "next" button would use some sort of javascript to enable the next button after a specified amount of time. A person would be logged in during this, so every-time the person moves on to next slide, I would track their process in the database. My question is, is there any better ways to do this tracking. Also, doing simple animations like cursor movements etc, can really only be accomplished well by using flash I assume? They mentioned using voice over etc.

I just recently moved on from tinkering with AS2 to tinkering with AS3. I was wondering what are some of the most useful code libraries and such that make your life easier? For example's sake, take GreenSock's awesome tools, TweenMax and so forth. What would be the best way of building a hierarchical site/presentation with AS3? Meaning a site structured like this, one page having as many subpages to navigate to as you want (probably just three or four levels in the end, structured in XML)

Having installed Amara flash slideshow builder it failed to run stating my flash was not installed or out of date. I knew this was not the case but uninstalled and re-installed flash anyway. I tested it on the adobe site, all ok and also tested it on a couple of sites using flash. All ok. Same problem with Amara tho', not recognised. So downloaded SWF 'n slide, another slideshowmaker. It also failed to recognise any flash installed (with dialog).Following some research I downloaded SubInACL from microsoft and ran it to ensure all my permissions were ok, but seems they were ok as it hasn't changed anything. What do I do now? I'm kind of stuck, I really need a flash slideshow builder, but seems they won't run, why?

I have used this slideshow for few projects and all I've done in the past is import new images (about 100k) and publish. The image are bit map of type (png) not big about 100k size.
Without saving the file I do a "test movie". Instead of doing the slideshow it displays the first image but doesn't loop through the rest.
I'm at a bit at a lost here. The path to the image in bitmap properties on the origanal file in imported is relative but when I select a new image its full path.

I have a slide show that works totally fine when it's on my machine, however, once it's published to web, instead of having a smooth transition between External SWFs, it skips and shows white background with loader for a sec.. Not only when it's loading first time, but all the time. Here's the code:

I have a task to built a simple Digital signage system which will display different kind of information on LCD panels. I am not sure if Adobe AIR with HTML / Javascript would be a good choice for the desktop part of this application, which will be responsible for displaying the content. The logics could be easily solved and coded in Javascript and the app should run for a long time.

I have a site that contains some videos that made by graphic designer , he also edit them now and then and add videos. I want to add text to the video that after X seconds at the bottom of the video that will show some text. For example: "Hosted by XXX". I cannot ask this from the designer because the text changes once a month and he will charge me for that work every time. This videos are in swf (flash) format. I need to do it online - while the page loaded or even asynchronously. My site it wrote in asp.net so this must be done(if it can) by asp.net or javascript.

In an ideal world, I could do this through a browser in real-time and send a notification that would include the DOM information needed to remove the ad. In this type of model, I could theoretically then use all clients (web visitors) as test subjects. I believe that this might be far fetched, and thus will need to rely on a smaller subset of users. I'm looking for any way to do this. I have even thought about using speakers and a microphone to detect when a sound is playing, and then some how capture a screenshot and the DOM information.

Which is a better approach for this?
ActionScript3 or JavaScript+PHP?
Any open source tool?
After a long search, the only good example I found was this [URL] but I'd rather have a flash alternative.. Also I don't need all the extra functions such as filters.

I have flash resizing it's container div by using external interface to call the javascript:[code]Now this appears to work fine in every browser except chrome. For some reason after the div is shrunk back down to size, the flash player looks like it's frozen. It's actually not frozen because if you resize the window the flash player starts playing again and you can see it had made progress since it appeared frozen. This only happens in chrome. Does anyone have any idea why something like this might happen? The site so you can check it out yourself(yes I know it's a broken mess in IE, but I'm kind of ignoring that for now):[code]I've tried different window modes but that doesn't help. The problem is when it resizes the div back down because if I comment that line out the flash never appears to freeze. But I need to be able to resize the div...

I understand that there are many methods to creating a slideshow on a website, but that isn't my question. What I really want to know is what is the most mainstream method of creating a slideshow on a website. What do you recommend? So far I've seen Jquery, Javascript, CSS & DHTML, and Flash. The first thing that comes to mind for me is flash, then second Javascript.

I am using SlideShow Pro (a flash slideshow/media player) on a site. I want to receive notifications (in JavaScript) from the flash player when a video is finished playing so I can load another video via Ajax. There is an onVideoEnd() ActionScript call in the API:
[Code]...
How do I receive notifications or execute this in JavaScript? Slideshow Pro comes with many examples of how to send messages TO SlideShow Pro, but none on how to receive notifications via JavaScript. The docs say that the entire API is available via JavaScript

I want to record to a XML document everytime a user loads a .swf. Simply just increase the number in the XML document by 1. The issue tho is i'm limited to the server side scripting thats available. No asp, no php, only JSP. Client side scripting(javascript, etc) would be perfectly acceptable as well.Is actionscript capable of writing to a xml file and producing the results i'm aiming for?

I am new to CS5 and i'm wondering how to make a flash banner play only once for the visitor. My home page has a search engine and every time the search the result will display with the banner playing again. this is the same for navigating through pages. I want the banner to stay on the last frame. its not looping, its just replaying everytime i navigate.

I'm currently working on a portfolio-website in Flash CS5. Everything is good so far,but my only problem is the image gallary. My idea is that when the visitor moves the mouse over one of the images, a hover effect will activate - which is does. The only problem now is that I can't get the images to show in a big format when you click on each of them, for a better view of the image.[URL]..
