I have a task to built a simple Digital signage system which will display different kind of information on LCD panels. I am not sure if Adobe AIR with HTML / Javascript would be a good choice for the desktop part of this application, which will be responsible for displaying the content. The logics could be easily solved and coded in Javascript and the app should run for a long time.
View 2 RepliesI am a designer using InDesignCS4 to export a 16 page document as a SWF file with a page curl page transition. I am also exporting a static footer bar that holds a client logo and website address that acts as a hyperlink to the client's website. I currently place these 2 SWF files in Dreamweaver, 16pager above the footer, 1 above the other, and save as .html, upload to an ftp site to get the whole thing to work as a FlippingBook page curl Digital Magazine with static footer bar and hyperlink that directs to the clients website to download the corresponding PDF and print.
I am no Flash developer, but what I would LIKE to do is export from InDesignCS4 as an Adobe Flash CS4 Pro (XFL) document, open up in Flash where I know each spread imports as its own frame, save as a new .fla file, create some great Text effects with actionscript, which I CAN do. But what I can't do is export this as a SWF file AND retain the page curl transition it would have had as a SWF from InDesign??? Is there a way, despite handing over to 'my' Flash developer to encode (according to every video tutorial I have seen on the subject!), where I can 'stitch these page frames together to export my frames from flash with page curl, have the footer bar independently at the bottom, have the whole thing scale as one flash animation but also include some features such as print, zoom and 'goto' page field? At the moment all this appears to be alot of coding work.
I have created a DIGITAL MAP but i have a problem. It goes like this, whenever you click the buildings in the MAP it will automatically "ZOOMS IN", it "ZOOMS IN" in that specific building that you have clicked.

I have a NetStream set up and it's supposed to listen for DRMAuthenticateEvent.DRM_Authenticate. When I give it an encrypted file (encrypted using software from drm-x.com), no DRMAuthenticateEvenet seems to be dispatched. The code looks like this:

I have both proxy and drm authentication types in there because drm was not working for me so I decided to try proxy. Am I doing something wrong? I got this stuff off of the Adobe reference pages, is there an easier/smarter way of going about DRM in Flex?
I'm writing an Adobe AIR app using plain HTML which needs to upload photos to Facebook. I don't think Facebook's JavaScript/Connect library includes photo uploading functionality, but their ActionScript library does. However, I'm having trouble loading the ActionScript library into the HTML page.
Adobe's documentation describes the process of loading ActionScript libraries into HTML AIR apps, which I tried using the compiled Flash library available here (specifically, Facebook_library_with_AIRConnect_v3.4_flash.swc). So my page looks something like:

Is the compiled library file I used the wrong one (do I need a .swf instead of a .swc)?If so, do I need to create my own compiled library somehow from the ActionScript source?Is the namespace I'm using incorrect? How can I get my Adobe Flex applications to seamlessly integrate with HTML pages? That is, I want Flex to: Not take up the entire page (make it any size page element I want). Talk back to the JavaScript on the page (further linking the Flash application with the HTML page).
View 1 RepliesI am developing an Adobe AIR application which uses both native windows and floating panels. Is is possible to enable the creation of a floating window instead of a native window when a JavaScript window.open() function is called?
It is required that all of the floating windows are contained within one native window, therefore the creation of more native windows is not suitable.
I have used a Custom HTMLHost class in order to enable the creation of a native window but I can't work out a way of creating a MDI window instead. I am using the flexMDI framework for my floating panel interface.
for a game I'm working on, I want to make a 'digital display', like a digital clock for example. Every character exists of 7 lines which are either on or off. This picture will demonstrate what I mean.
Currently, I've got a DigitalDisplay class that extends Sprite, which holds a couple of instances of the Digit class that extends Sprite, which in turn holds 7 instances of the DigitLine class, which extends Shape, in which I draw one such line with the drawing API. This would mean that one DigitalDisplay holds 8 Sprite, which all hold 7 Shapes, so that's 8 Sprites and 56 Shapes. This is a bit overkill I think.
Thing is, I want control over every 'DigitLine'. During transition, when the text on the display changes, I want every lines to go on and off in a random pattern, slowly forming the new text. Would this be possible with another less extensive solution? The only thing I could think of was this:
Instead of every Digit object I'd have an Array, which instead of filled with DigitLine objects is filled with Arrays. However, then I'd only have 1 graphics object, which mean I'd need to clear() it every time something changes.
Ive been trying to write my first Blackberry Adobe Flex application but get the following errors:

Most of the desktop application development I do is in Swing, and I'm curious to hear people's thoughts on using JavaFX and/or Adobe Flex for building desktop applications. Have you had success building desktop apps with these? Or would you stick with Swing for now and use tools to help make Swing development more productive?

I am trying to build an online teach tool that shows a presentation/slideshow. It needs to have the ability to track and make sure users are staying through the whole process. The client used this example to show me what they were looking for visually:[URL] Now, I let them know that with a flash video, there would really be no way to do any sort of tracking. What I envision is creating a multi page slideshow which has you click next for the next page. This "next" button would use some sort of javascript to enable the next button after a specified amount of time. A person would be logged in during this, so every-time the person moves on to next slide, I would track their process in the database. My question is, is there any better ways to do this tracking. Also, doing simple animations like cursor movements etc, can really only be accomplished well by using flash I assume? They mentioned using voice over etc.

I read that it could be done by passing the javascript code to the parent html document , using externalinterface.call function. Then I assume it will be faster if I can declare functions in the javascript code in the HTML document in the first use of externalinterface.call funtion ; if flash code calls the javascript code repeatedly. So let me ask you how to do that. For details , any javascript to be loaded is unknown in design time and I can not prepare a javascript file to be loaded.
We're currently building a Flex application using the PureMVC framework with a shell.swf which loads/unloads modules dynamically. We're experiencing issues with memory and we're looking to replace the shell.swf with a JavaScript-based loader.Two questions:What would be a good framework to dynamically load the Flex components and allow the modules to communicate between each other?Would dynamically loading/unloading the modules via JavaScript take care of the typical memory problems associated with Flex/Flash applications?

I know enough ColdFusion and JavaScript to do what I want to do, but I want to add long poling into the application and it looks like the only way to do that is through Blaze DS...but I don't know enough about Flash/Flex to finish the job.

I'm looking at the possibility to call NodeJS javascript files from the AIR app. Like the AIR app collects some information and calls socket.io in NodeJS to dispatch the info to html connected clients.
