I recently completed the kirupa tutorial on the loading of a random movie, but after the loaded movie has finished playing I would like it to load another random movie and continue to do so.Being a newbie to flash 8 I was wondering if I could get some help with the actionscript.
View 1 Repliesloading random movies into a loadclip. Currently I load all my movies this way.
loadMovie("preview.swf","loadclip");
I want to have one of several movies load in a random order when the site launches. Obviously when a viewer returns to my site, a different movie would initially load.
i know this code loads movies dynamically:
[Code]...
but how would you load movies that are already imported in the library???
im playing with the load random movie (but loading a random xml file instead) based on the wonderful tutorial from front page and was wondering whether anyone can show me the work around/upgrade to AS2 for this bit of script since im publishing to Flash 8 /AS2 and it doesnt work:

I have an intro.swf file that is basically a movie with sound that is exported for actionscript but not exported in the first frame. I just stuck it in a movie on my timeline and it works great and the preloader works because it doesn't load the sound before the preloader. I use :
musicSound = new Sound();
musicSound.attachSound("music");
musicSound.start();
to play the sound in intro.swf.
However, now this intro.swf gets loaded into an index.swf and everything works fine and the sound plays as long as I have the sound included in BOTH the intro.swf and the index.swf and the sound is exported on the first frame in the index.swf. I was hoping I could remove the sound entirely from my index.swf since it already loads into the intro but so far
I want to have a background image that randomly loads from a list of *.jpg files in a txt file. The txt file is to be edited by user (to add a new image) without accessing the code contained in the .fla, and the txt file gives the location of the images.
View 5 RepliesCode:
filename = ["header1.swf", "header2.swf", "header3.swf", "header4.swf", "header5.swf"];
path = "[URL]";
i = filename.length;
k = Math.floor(Math.random()*i);
loadMovie(path+filename[k], movieTarget);
That is the code that I am using for the container swf. I know the code works because I used it for static images and it worked fine. When I take a look and the HTML file, this is the error I get.
"A script in this movie is causing Macromedia FLash Player 7 to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive."
Each of the header swf files are about 40k, and they each load AS from a single AS file. Do I need a preloader?
i am having major brain burp... I want to have a background image that randomly loads from a list of *.jpg files in a txt file. The txt file is to be edited by user (to add a new image) without accessing the code contained in the .fla, and the txt file gives the location of the images. It is possible I know - but my old head isn't working. I need this for a charity that I do free work for;
View 5 RepliesI am trying to load 9 movies into a flash, I want them to be loaded randomly and to loop, right now I am using this script but it is playing them in a certain order. Is there a way they can be loaded randomly?
var mcl:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
var list:Object = new Object();
mcl.addListener(list);

I am in the process of creating a VS Card game in Flash. It is basically a game where you can choose either one card or another, each randomly pulled from one of the eight different sets. The first card (or swf) can be pulled from any of the 8 sets (out of a total of 12 cards in each set))..and will load into a targetMC, and the second must be pulled randomly from any of the 8 sets except from the folder where the first card was chosen and load onto the second targetMC.

View 1 RepliesI would like to randomly move three movie clips, placed in an array, within a set box. The script below worked with used with one movie clip, but not with all in an array.
var clipSpeed:Number= 1;
var speedX:Number = 0
var speedY:Number = 0

I have a main movie with 2 empty movie clips on the stage. They have the instance names clip1 and clip2. I also have 10 swf files named movie1.swf, movie2.swf, movie3.swf, etc. I want to randomly load any 2 of these swf files into the 2 empty movie clips in the main movie. After the 2 swf files have been loaded, I want one of them to last 20 seconds, and then randomly load a new swf file to replace it. And the other one, after 30 seconds, will randomly load a new swf file to replace itself. And this cycle will go on & on...
I have the following actionscript:
[Code]....
Unfortunately, it isn't working. Is there an error with how I typed this? Or do I need to change something so it will work?
I basically want to load 2 swf files into 2 different targets, have one of them last 20 seconds & then randomly load a new swf, and have the other last 30 seconds & then randomly load a new swf. What is the correct actionscript to achieve this?
The random motion tutorial works just perfectly with one movieclip, but when I try to make a new movie clip and assign the same code to it, it really doesn't duplicate at all. The original movieclip has an instance name of dot so I created a new movieclip with instance name of dottwo.But for some reasob the following code doesn't duplicate the dottwo at all
i = 0;
while (i<25) {
dot.duplicateMovieClip("dot"+i, i);
[code].....
I have gotten my movies to play at random from external files but the links that where coded into the random swf files no longer work. could there be an action script issue? The random swf files are as3 and the player file is as2????
View 1 Replieswhy is this code NOT loading a random image, despite tracing random number?
package {
import flash.display.Loader;
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.*;
import flash.net.URLRequest;
import flash.display.MovieClip;
[Code]...
I am now using the code for my background image which will rotate when you enter a new gallery.I can't get it to randomize.[code]I have tried adding: Math.floor(Math.random() * total); and it almost works. It seems everytime the last node is called it stops working (also at other random times, haven't found a pattern).

1: this is my third attempt at mastering OO and flash CS5 so, i hope we can all have a laugh after.
2: In short.. I added a 64x64 tiled movie in flash. Read it out in an array, in a.. well original way(just to see if i could get it to work so stop lauging already), and tried to recreate them using a flash class.
2a: The recreate class works but shows the Tiles in a random order, every time a new one?! this is what happens..

I have always the argument with my colleagues which authoring strategy to use. I always attached to the idea of authoring several swf files, and have them all loaded to the main swf when needed. And than attach Preloader to each swf that I load.
Others think that it should be only one swf with one preloader. And have all the navigation to use scenes or goto actions.
So the advantage of using my strategy is that users will not wait too long for one movie when its being loaded. And its more convenient to work on several fla with each have its own layers, symbols, etc
I want to create a website having one main stage file(main.fla) with different swfs(movie1.swf, movie2.swf,movie3.swf) for various sections. Am not sure what I am doing wrong here but somehow when I click the button it does not load the respective flash file
View 6 RepliesI am creating a presentation which has a main flash and then 3 sub categories to it. Main.fla is nothing but a container to load the other movies into. I could get the the first movie (movie1.swf) to load onto main.swf by using the foll code:
this.createEmptyMovieClip("empty_mc",1);
empty_mc.loadMovie("movie1.swf");
empty_mc.x=0;
empty_mc.y=0;
Now the problem is in movie1.swf the menu is like on the 3rd level, i.e. main stage>menu_mc>menu (where the buttons are).
How can I add a code on level "menu" so that when I click button2 or button3 it loads movie2.swf and movie3.swf respectivley onto the main stage. Makes sense or am making it too confusing..
I want to try this breaking a big movie into smaller parts functionality so that I can understand flash more.
i have a photography website, the main 'index.swf' file has two scenes, one for the loader and one with the content.i have a navigation menu:item 1, item 2, item 3, and so on. i have 10 layers, my nav menu is on layer 10, at the very top.i also have a a layer for each one of my navigation menu content. Now i click on item 2, and i load a external movie clip called "fotos_mc" on to the stage and inside this movie clipe i load pic1.swf using: loadMovie ("pic1. swf", 1);it loads fine, except that it loads on top of my navigation menu, logo and so on, even it's on a layer that's under the layer where i have placed my menu and logo. is there a way that i have load my movie so that it displays behind my menue?
View 3 Repliesis it possible to keep the loaded movies and then attach them to a mc ?The thing is that I have several external resources to load and I wish to attach them pour MCs along the execution of the movie.
View 2 Replieson one of the tutorials to load a movie it teaches you how to load with a button...
but.onPress = function () {
_root.createEmptyMovieClip("container", 1);
loadMovie("loaded.swf", "container");
[code]....
i want to load an external swf movie into the main swf movie. now ive been using the loadmovie script and it works fine but the loaded movie comes up in the top left of my site so my ? is, how can i specify the location of where my loaded movie ends up
View 3 RepliesI got some movies loading in a container, but the movies stay open, I want to be able to "close" the container, or hide it when I click on other navigation buttons that are included in my main timeline.
View 3 RepliesBasically I have a primary navigation and secondary or nested menu on one menu item. The following load movie script works fine on the primary menu on the root:
about_mc.onRelease = function() {
createEmptyMovieClip("container2", 1);
loadMovie("about2.swf", "container2");
[code]....
how can i load 2 .swf movies simultaneously through one load movie action button ?
View 7 RepliesI read the tuts on dynamic loading etc (the one about external stuff like mp3s, jpgs, swfs; and the one with the transitions). I'm messing around with it in MX and all works fine, except the problem I have is I cant check it locally! the bandwidth simulator and profiler doesnt seem to work with loading external content, the movie appears immediately.
So I tried loading the swf from the web (i.e. URL = file://[URL]) that gave errors "opening file" (the movie is there though). my only solution so far is to keep uploading my movie everytime I wanna check it!!! which is CRAP! I dont have a network at home, so cant really use those bandwidth simulators I saw on the sticky. basically I juz wanna load an external movie, and see how the parent movie handles it (i.e. progress is kept track of correctly, loaded notifications work etc.) how can I check all this locally?
