I am working on making a flash site for some lingerie that I made. I have some experience but not much. Instead of placing each image into the video, I would like all of the images and corresponding text description to appear upon loading the page. Do I use XML for this or can I just create a complex array of where the image is located and its corresponding description and then program a function to load it?

View 1 RepliesI have a series of movies in my library (called page1, page2, page3... page87) and I'm looking to load the first one into a blank movie (called pageHolder).Using 'next' and 'previous' buttons, I then want to unload and load the next in the series of 'pages'. I'm trying to work out the best way to do this using addChild and removeChild, but not having much luck. I've read that the best way to do this entire sequence is to set up an array, but I have no previous experience with arrays.

i am trying to create a swf file that contains 3 movie clips inside of it. i want the swf file to randomly choose one of those movies and play it.

I recently completed the kirupa tutorial on the loading of a random movie, but after the loaded movie has finished playing I would like it to load another random movie and continue to do so.Being a newbie to flash 8 I was wondering if I could get some help with the actionscript.

I am in the process of creating a VS Card game in Flash. It is basically a game where you can choose either one card or another, each randomly pulled from one of the eight different sets. The first card (or swf) can be pulled from any of the 8 sets (out of a total of 12 cards in each set))..and will load into a targetMC, and the second must be pulled randomly from any of the 8 sets except from the folder where the first card was chosen and load onto the second targetMC.

I also have 10 swf files named movie1.swf, movie2.swf, movie3.swf, etc. I want to randomly load any 2 of these swf files into the 2 empty movie clips in the main movie. After the 2 swf files have been loaded, I want one of them to last 20 seconds, and then randomly load a new swf file to replace it. And the other one, after 30 seconds, will randomly load a new swf file to replace itself. And this cycle will go on & on...

I basically want to load 2 swf files into 2 different targets, have one of them last 20 seconds & then randomly load a new swf, and have the other last 30 seconds & then randomly load a new swf. What is the correct actionscript to achieve this?

Im trying to load random from the library 10 mc's. Which is not a problem.
But once the loaded movie finishes playing would like to unload it and to load another random another movie and so on.
I have 15 empty placeholder on my stage, named "empty01" - "empty15". I have 15 mcs in my library, with linkage identifiers "01" - "15".

I need to load random movieClips from the library to a middleStage container on my stage. I already have this.

basically, im trying to load random movie clips from the library when i run the function "TRO1".. the logic behind what im trying to do is to to first create an array containing the class names (name given in the "linkage" option) of the movie clips in the library... then randomly select an item from that array... then bring it to the stage.. Here is the code I typed:

When i try to run the function, i get the error message "Instantiation attempted on a non-constructor..."
I think the problem is that flash doesn't understand what "randomCharacter" is in the line "var character:MovieClip = new randomCharacter();"... I assume there is a proper way of writing the "randomCharacter" variable so that i can use it in the succeeding line...

View 5 RepliesI import my artwork from photoshop or internet, png8, or bitmap, i convert it to symbol, and double click the scenario, then i try to change color for example and instead of painting the color in the artwork it paints under the imported picture. When I draw a picture in flash it works good.

Example:
Group1 contains dog_mc, cat_mc and bird_mc
Group2 contains shoe_mc, hat_mc and pants_mc
etc...
What I am trying to do is load a random group initially (either 1-4), then I want to play that group of movieclips. Once that group is completed playing all its movieclips, I want to move on to the next group and play all those movieclips. When all groups and movieclips have completed, I want to loop back to the start.
Basically, I have movie1, movie2, movie3, movie4 in the library, with linkages.
These are just 5 frame clips, with a single dummy_mc moving statically over the 4 frames.
I need these to be picked randomly and placed (each has its own set of co-ordinates where it should appear) on the stage at a random set interval (ie, every 2-3 seconds).
There are also 7 items (item1, item2, etc) in the library.
So once one of the 4 movies has been placed on the stage, I need one of these 7 items to randomly attach itself to the dummy_mc within that movie (and, I guess, generate instance names etc)
I have a list of external movies. I want to import them only once and then use them as many times as I want. I need to attach them to other clips the same way I would attach them if they were in my current library with linkage option on.suppose i have a movie called s1.swf in the same location with my movie. then I have this code:

I don't know why the event handler for the movie "mc" is not invoked ... I have no trace record in the outpus window.
I got two questions in my mind. The first one is which is a better format for importing a movie? Should I use QUICKTIME or other formats?
Now the second one is a little bit confusing. Let's say I have successfully imported any movie to my FLA file, I was wondering if their is a way to PRELOAD half of the entire movie before actually playing it, that way, audience won't wait for a very long time if needed.
I have an intro.swf file that is basically a movie with sound that is exported for actionscript but not exported in the first frame. I just stuck it in a movie on my timeline and it works great and the preloader works because it doesn't load the sound before the preloader. I use :
musicSound = new Sound();
musicSound.attachSound("music");
musicSound.start();
to play the sound in intro.swf.
However, now this intro.swf gets loaded into an index.swf and everything works fine and the sound plays as long as I have the sound included in BOTH the intro.swf and the index.swf and the sound is exported on the first frame in the index.swf. I was hoping I could remove the sound entirely from my index.swf since it already loads into the intro but so far

View 5 RepliesI have a mp3 file that is 2:30 long and is roughly 5.5mb. How come when I import the file to my fla library it sees it as being 29mb large. My swf isn't large when I compile the project but the fla file jumps from 2mb to 30mb just from adding this sound file. P.S. This site has been a ton of help with different aspects of my flash project.
View 4 RepliesI am using the CS4 version and when I click on the library item and drag it to the stage, there is nothing there. It is just a blank canvas and it's like the image(s) are hidden behind the stage or something. When I do a Publish Preview, I can see the .swf file with all the images, but in the .fla, there is nothing showing but the text files, and then that is even hidden in a newly created file. I am not sure if I accidently turned something on/off that is preventing my images from not showing on the stage or what. I really need to find a solution to this problem because I need to create a Flash file for a project I am working on in one of my classes. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I have done Google searches and Forum searches to no avail unless I'm not using the right keywords in my search.
