Identify A Unique User In Flash/Actionscript 3?

Jun 18, 2010

I'm trying to make a vote/poll application in Flash using Actionscript 3. Is there any way to generate a specific ID that is unique to each user? The only other option I can think of is using the IP address, which is less than ideal in many cases (college campuses, shared Internet access, etc.). It needs to be the same number every time it is run on the same PC, but different for each user.

AS3 :: Flash - Identify MovieClip Among DisplayObjectContainer?

Oct 30, 2009

in ActionScript 3, if I loop through the children of a movie clip, it will return a DisplayObjectContainer, which is a list of DisplayObjects. However, the AS3 typeof cannot identify MovieClip as MovieClip is now an object, instead of a data type. How can I correctly identify MovieClip?I found 3 solutions online: First set the MovieClip name to a specific name, then in the iterate process, check the name of children using child.name.indexOf("specificName") > -1

Solution 2:use child.hasOwnProperty("numChildren") to identify a MovieClip

Solution 3: use 3rd party plug-in like FlashDevelop

Flash :: Get A Movie Clip To Identify Itself In AS2?

May 13, 2011

Basically, I'm making a very simple turn based battle game using ActionScript 2.0. I'm VERY new to code, with only very limited Visual Basic knowledge, so I'll happily admit I don't really know what I'm doing. I've got a start, but I decided to rewrite the entire thing because I wouldn't be able to cycle enemies and levels easily.I've spawned the same enemy twice using _root.attachMovie, and identified them as Enemy1 and Enemy2. After spawning them, I tried to make them identify themselves with:

_root.Enemy1.identify = "Enemy1"
_root.Enemy1.identify = "Enemy1"

Using the debugger, this apparently works (within the movieclip, they have a variable called identify which correctly labels them), yet when I try to use an if statement so I can put them in their own individual positions, it simply does not work; it skims straight over. The code I have within the movie clips is:

if (identify == "Enemy1") {
function poschange() {
[code]....

The poschange functions works fine for the player characters, it's just this if statement to identify which enemy it is apparently fails. So my question is: is there any easier way for a movie clip to identify its own ID so I don't have to use this method, or is there just something wrong with my code?

I have a flash movie that loads pdf files in a new browser window when a button is selected. As some of the files are quite large I need to keep the attention of the user while it is loading and to this end I thought a progress bar would be suitable. ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Sending User-generated Info To The User

Feb 22, 2011

We have a sort of game, generated with Flash in AS3, on our website where the reader is invited to eliminate the California Budget Deficit. It's connected to a database where we keep track of the responses and print them in chart form and post the results on the website so everyone can see the most popular budget items the readers want to cut.

See the interactive in question here:

[URL]

We've had many, many requests to have an option where the reader can get a copy of his/her choices that he/she can print out. I've thought about having a movieclip pop up that shows those choices (and that would be simple enough), but in addition to that, what I'd really like to do is have a way to download those choices to the reader's computer as a text file or maybe have a "Print" button on the movieclip showing the choices that would print just that movieclip. The database we have wouldn't really be suitable because it's set up to simply show which were chosen and which not, and the names of the submissions and choices are variables that don't really mean anything except to us when we put it all in an excel file.

Flash :: Approach For User To User Audio Communication?

Jul 2, 2010

For one of my projects I need users to be able to communicate with each other in an audio mode. The thing I'm concerned about is the scalability of the project if it even gets big in terms of bandwidth consumption.

What are the alternatives to passing the audio through my server to the users?Is it possible to create a link between two users so they can exchange their stream of data (audio in this case) so that it doesn't pass through me, while still being able to control the time they've been connected to each other and some other information?

As for now it's just an idea I have in mind but I don't really know what to look into. I think it will probably need to be some plugin dependant solution so that's why I tagged the question like that.

I'm not looking for a concrete solution, just a little push in the right direction from someone who has been through something similar.

Flash Piano - How To Get Each Instance Of Button To Play Unique Sound

Jun 15, 2009

I'm using flash CS4. I am trying to make a piano. It will be the header of a web page when the mouse rolls over a key the appropriate note plays- ideally the key would appear to be pressed as well. I have a jpg of a piano keyboard imported as a graphic. On a new layer I have made a button whos over state has a blank keyframe. I have imported that button to the stage and given the instance a name. I have attached a sound to the over keyframe (middle C).

I have dropped a second instance of the button onto the stage and given it a unique name. When I attach the next sound (D pitch) to the over state it changes the original middle C. How can I get each instance of a button to play a unique sound? I have tried using a new layer for each button but that didnt work. Do I have to make a brand new button for each note? I have reduced my design to include only 16 notes (I originally wanted 32 but I thought that may take too long to download)---

Flash - Populate Comboboxes INSIDE A Datagrid With UNIQUE Data IN?

Jan 21, 2011

i've searched for several hours, and didn't find an answer for my problem. i'm trying to place comboboxes in a datagrid filled with DYNAMIC data. (the number and the content of these comboboxes always change. i don't know in advance how many columns there are, where i need to use comboboxes. so every single combobox gets a unique dataprovider, which comes from an external source, WHEN the program runs.)

-i found MANY threads discussing this problem, but solving via crappy mxml files, filling the comboboxes inside the sourcecode by hand. i want to point out, that isn't good for me.

-i found a better solution, in which they used some sort of custom itemrenderer to get the data from the internet. (kind of a country chooser thing) but sadly that wasn't good enough, because the number and name of the countries in the world are static more or less, they don't change. so their renderer class didn't depend on any parameters from the main algorithm.

but in my program i calculate the data in my own actionscript objects, then fill an arraylist with that. so at the beginning i load the desired data from the net, and when i get the response of the urlrequest, AFTER that i start to populate the datagrid/combobox.

i can fill any datagrid or combobox without trouble, but to put that combobox inside a datagrid cell seems to be impossible.it drives me crazy. i managed to do this in several languages before, c#, java, even php+html, but in flex it looks way too complicated then it should be.

PHP :: Securely Provide Unique Secret Code To Winner Of Flash Game?

Feb 15, 2011

Here's what I want to do: when a player wins a game (coded in flash/actionscript), they are given a personalized secret key, which they can email to me in exchange for a prize. I can then validate the key on my end using a private algorithm. I need to design it so that it is practically impossible for hackers to generate a valid prize key without winning the game.

I assume that any SWF file is basically vulnerable to decompilation, but I don't know exactly how vulnerable they are. Perhaps any algorithm for generating a valid key will be accessible to hackers? I have at my disposal all the methods in actionscript 3, as well as a PHP/MySQL server, and I control the server where the game will be hosted.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Identify Variables Via URLRequest?

May 18, 2009

I'm retrieving variables from a DB via PHP via the URLRequest, and the formatting is set to variables (URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES) and matches the structure "myVarName=myValue&myOtherVarName=myOtherValue&... ".

My question is; is there a way, within Flash, to identify the variables and their values, without having to know their names?, are there methods within the loader class that allow this?, such as the variables count etc?

(I can access the variable "copyrightTxt." via the syntax: loader.data.copyrightTxt because I know its name, but I'd like something like

loader.data.variableSent[45].name = "copyrightTxt"
and
loader.data.variableSent[45].value = "@ 2009"
and
loader.data.variableCount = 98

And I want to do for "tagInitW" the same thing I do for "m" being given that I already have "created tag1InitW", "tag1InitH", "tag2InitW", "tag2InitH..." So is there anyway I can dynamically target a variable? This was easy in AS2, but because of the strict dataType the vars have in AS3, I can't do it like I was doing it in AS2.
