Curious but is it possible to store unique stats through flash using AS2? My client wants it and I'm like, I don't know if that exists. He got spoiled with Google Analytics.

So - if that is possible then I can set up teaching courses on standalone pcs can't I? ie: Databses I have in access can go in XML and the recording of position in course and results of tests can also be recorded using Shared object.Is that a good way of going about things OR should the whole thing go over to AIR and its sqlite system?

View 1 RepliesI have setup a profile card which displays information about individuals by pulling data from an XML database. I have multiple text fields and couple movie clips that display images but I need a datagrid to display stats for each individual. The stat information is set as attributes on a array of XML nodes each node is a year.
Example XML

The red information is what i need to get displayed by the Data Grid for each profile.

I am following this: [URL]. And parsing the logs to get the stats of applications is hard if theres heavy traffic its hard to get everything to parse right. Would it be easier to import all the stats into mysql db once an hour that way its easier to work with?
View 1 RepliesI have java remoting services(more then 25) on my (Tomcat BlazeDS)server which are called from my Flex client application.I need to collect stats on them like how much time each service is taking(total time).There are three approaches I can do this in my opinion(may be more)
1) change each service and add timer at beginning and ending.bad practice
2) I can also use AOP but I feel its an over kill for this requirement.over kill
3) servlet Filter. Good option
I am doing a game. at the beginning you select your player. Later in the game you can view your stats and stuff. In the stats area, I want it to show the player you picked. To do this I have put this on the button that you hit to select the player. On release _root.brad(name of player)=true Now, I am guessing that to make the oic of brad show under stats I make a rectangle box where I want him. I then made it a movie clip. Now I am putting the code: If _root.brad=true (then show the pic) I am lost on how to make it show the pic of brad.

My question is:Do I use mysql to save stats or xml FIRST: I will get info from xml and send it to my activities in flash - I'm OK with thisSECOND: I want to send out stats from flash to mysql OR xml. The stats are:1. Student logs on of course using username and password (well that comes in not out)2. What lesson the student is on ie: 2, 3, etc...3. Highscores for game activities4. Scores student gets on each activity As far as I can see the only stats that grow are the scores on each activity and even those could be erased periodically.

The only other option I can think of is using the IP address, which is less than ideal in many cases (college campuses, shared Internet access, etc.). It needs to be the same number every time it is run on the same PC, but different for each user.

To create one hundred unique variables? Basically I need to make 100 variables and am wondering how you create 100 vats with out resorting to Declaring them all by hand. the problem is var whatever+x just creates a variable with whatever+x instead of creating whatever0, whatever1... to whatever99.
Using the code gives me 4 numbers but not always unique. Looking around for some tutorials drew a blank.

This is what I am trying to do. I have a "n" number of dynamicly loaded movieclips (ships).ach ship has a unique movement throught points that I also load from an xml file.For example "Ship A" will go to x:100 y:120 then to x:200 y:300 and so on. Ship B has a diffrent set of points that will travel. I know how to make this work for one movieclip(ship). I was wondering if I can use the same "movement" class for all of them? What values should I pass to the class exept the movement array of each ship

I'm using flash CS4. I am trying to make a piano. It will be the header of a web page when the mouse rolls over a key the appropriate note plays- ideally the key would appear to be pressed as well. I have a jpg of a piano keyboard imported as a graphic. On a new layer I have made a button whos over state has a blank keyframe. I have imported that button to the stage and given the instance a name. I have attached a sound to the over keyframe (middle C).
I have dropped a second instance of the button onto the stage and given it a unique name. When I attach the next sound (D pitch) to the over state it changes the original middle C. How can I get each instance of a button to play a unique sound? I have tried using a new layer for each button but that didnt work. Do I have to make a brand new button for each note? I have reduced my design to include only 16 notes (I originally wanted 32 but I thought that may take too long to download)---
i've searched for several hours, and didn't find an answer for my problem. i'm trying to place comboboxes in a datagrid filled with DYNAMIC data. (the number and the content of these comboboxes always change. i don't know in advance how many columns there are, where i need to use comboboxes. so every single combobox gets a unique dataprovider, which comes from an external source, WHEN the program runs.)
-i found MANY threads discussing this problem, but solving via crappy mxml files, filling the comboboxes inside the sourcecode by hand. i want to point out, that isn't good for me.
-i found a better solution, in which they used some sort of custom itemrenderer to get the data from the internet. (kind of a country chooser thing) but sadly that wasn't good enough, because the number and name of the countries in the world are static more or less, they don't change. so their renderer class didn't depend on any parameters from the main algorithm.
but in my program i calculate the data in my own actionscript objects, then fill an arraylist with that. so at the beginning i load the desired data from the net, and when i get the response of the urlrequest, AFTER that i start to populate the datagrid/combobox.
i can fill any datagrid or combobox without trouble, but to put that combobox inside a datagrid cell seems to be impossible.it drives me crazy. i managed to do this in several languages before, c#, java, even php+html, but in flex it looks way too complicated then it should be.

View 1 RepliesHere's what I want to do: when a player wins a game (coded in flash/actionscript), they are given a personalized secret key, which they can email to me in exchange for a prize. I can then validate the key on my end using a private algorithm. I need to design it so that it is practically impossible for hackers to generate a valid prize key without winning the game.
I assume that any SWF file is basically vulnerable to decompilation, but I don't know exactly how vulnerable they are. Perhaps any algorithm for generating a valid key will be accessible to hackers? I have at my disposal all the methods in actionscript 3, as well as a PHP/MySQL server, and I control the server where the game will be hosted.

View 3 RepliesI have a theoretical question about constructing a e-store in flash. There are some free ready-made shopping cart systems for flash that use PHP. Why exactly is the PHP script used? To avoid running out of stock?Im not very comfortable with PHP, so I wonder if it is possible to make a simple shopping cart system using variables. For example after pushing a button add to cart the price and quantity is added to certain vars, that can be used afterwards to send the client the bill via mail.
I would like to offer clients to choose between bill to mail and bank link. Could somebody also tell if the var system can be implemented in the bank link system with SSL security and stuff? I will hire a programmer to do the bank link system just don't want to run into unpleasent surprises when the programmer will take a look at my var system and start laughing.
I was hoping for some guidelines on the general best practice for storing data from an XML document. When all is said and done, my whole flash site will be powered by XML, so I want to make sure it is organized properly. Usually what I do is parse the XML, and store all the different sets of data in arrays, but I'm sure there's a better way to do it. I'm no expert though, so I need something fairly straightforward. Here's my initial setup:

Basically instead of having all of my stockists and stores listed on the website, I would like to have an input box, where a user can put in their Postcode, and the flash swf will search the stores we stock by the postcode(s) and bring up the closest 3 - 5 stores. As im not using any server-side script, it is not possible to connect to database right? 2 things i managed to found by google it are SharedObject and XML. But later i found that it is not possible to modify data in XML using flash without any server-side script. For sharedobject, it seems not possible if i want to store the information of a list of users, as the instance of shared object can only hold the latest data.
