Flash :: Approach For User To User Audio Communication?
Jul 2, 2010
For one of my projects I need users to be able to communicate with each other in an audio mode. The thing I'm concerned about is the scalability of the project if it even gets big in terms of bandwidth consumption.
What are the alternatives to passing the audio through my server to the users? Is it possible to create a link between two users so they can exchange their stream of data (audio in this case) so that it doesn't pass through me, while still being able to control the time they've been connected to each other and some other information?
As for now it's just an idea I have in mind but I don't really know what to look into. I think it will probably need to be some plugin dependant solution so that's why I tagged the question like that.
I'm not looking for a concrete solution, just a little push in the right direction from someone who has been through something similar.
This isn't another one of those "How can I record audio in the browser?" questions... I know that the HTML5 Stream API is around the corner and Flash can already access the user's microphone and camera. I'm simply wondering, as a Javascript developer with little knowledge of Flash, if anyone has developed a JS library that hooks into Flash's device capabilities for recording but sends the results back to javascript (presumably using ExternalInterface).
In other words... libraries like SoundManager2 utilize a Flash fallback for audio playback, but they don't seem to allow for recording. Has anyone written a JS library that uses an invisible Flash movie to allow audio recording?
I wonder wether on a website like chatroulette for example, the streaming video is going directly from user to user or wether it is going through a server.
In other words I wonder wether it is possible to offer a webcam service on a website, so that the streaming video goes directly from user to user, without overloading the system.
We have a sort of game, generated with Flash in AS3, on our website where the reader is invited to eliminate the California Budget Deficit. It's connected to a database where we keep track of the responses and print them in chart form and post the results on the website so everyone can see the most popular budget items the readers want to cut.
See the interactive in question here:

We've had many, many requests to have an option where the reader can get a copy of his/her choices that he/she can print out. I've thought about having a movieclip pop up that shows those choices (and that would be simple enough), but in addition to that, what I'd really like to do is have a way to download those choices to the reader's computer as a text file or maybe have a "Print" button on the movieclip showing the choices that would print just that movieclip. The database we have wouldn't really be suitable because it's set up to simply show which were chosen and which not, and the names of the submissions and choices are variables that don't really mean anything except to us when we put it all in an excel file.
I was wondering if it is possible to analyze music playing on a user's computer and show visualizations of it using computerSpectrum? Basically, can Flash read the audio playing on a computer or just the user's microphone?
In my tracking I records the voice, it generates the file (if i download I was able to listen to it), but if I try to play, it doesn´t play. If I use FP9 r124 it works, using FP10r53 or the latest 10.1.82.76 it fails !!! all with the same SWFhas anyone experienced the same? I can not ask everyone to downgrade the flash player.
I know how to use AS3 to record sound from the user and enable them to save it to their computer. However, I would really like instead to allow them to either send it to an email address right after recording (without them having to save it to their computer first and find the file), OR to let them save it so that the site owner can access it (They would know that it was happening.).
I have a presentation which is split into several different movies which are linked together by buttons, all I am trying to do is add a sound which will play when the user moves over the button, and then another that will play when they click on the button; I got this to work once but it cut off the sound because it loaded a new movie, so I found the onSoundComplete command, which I've tried in a load of different ways but nothing works... here's the code i've got at the moment:
on (rollOver) { mySound = new Sound(this); mySound.attachSound("twisted1"); mySound.start(0, 0); } on (release) { mySound = new Sound(this); mySound.attachSound("twisted2"); mySound.start(0, 0); twisted2.onSoundComplete = function(loadMovie("history.swf", "this")); }
And this is the error that I am getting: **Error** Scene=home, layer=links, frame=1:Line 12: ')' or ',' expected twisted2.onSoundComplete = function(loadMovie("history.swf", "this")); I've tried a few things but i just seem to get more errors...
It is possible to make file transfer from air application via server?I think need to create like byte array streaming or somethink like this from sender and write the destination file on receiver user pc.
I'm new to Flash media server family. I need a server that can capture user recorded video/audio (through a flash recorder) and save it as a flv file on the server. which one of those server family is for me? I'm currently doing it using Red5, but would like to try out Flash media server as well.
I have some text that says go to page with a input textfield box and a go button. This is a flash cs4 file.I want to have the user input the page number and have it go to that frame.I am using actionscript 3.0 and have bought 4 books and researched online and still can't find what I am looking for.I can make the go button go to whatever page I want I just don't know how to get the information the user put in the box.
Id like to find a gallery with user sign in , and user uploads but how difficult would it be to put in a gallery component ,and make a button to allow users to upload straight to a folder on the server? once th epicture is on the server the gallery will do the rest auto
I had been developing one Flex application , in that users are allowed to upload there own swfs . The problem is, my application has a frame Rate of 11 , if the user tries to upload the swf with higher frame and audio with it( ie Framerate of 24 with AudioFLV ). this makes my application to run at the higher frame rate of that same user uploaded swf.
I've been reading a lot about the benefits of Object Pooling. Found some "tutorials" online, all above my skill level. Can anyone please show me an extremely simple example of an Object Pool. What my game does is creates Ball objects when the user holds down the mouse, stops when user lifts up mouse. I need to store these Ball objects in an array(or Vector), and hit test them with other objects, removing them from the stage when the hit another object. I'd like to create a pool of say 20 of so, created once, and recycle them.
I have a problem with a dynamic video player that I have created in flash. The video player is "SCORM" compliant so that when the user clicks the "exit" button a class file is called to mark the user complete in an LMS.I have tested the SCORM Code previously and it works with out issue. Usually I have the completion code embedded in an Actions Layer of the movie. This is the first time I have attempted to call the completion status in a class file, I have added a "trace statement" when the movie is tested within flash it runs the trace statement properly, but when uploaded to the LMS environment the course does not complete properly
I am creating an audio communication application. In that two users are able to communicate. But the problem is that some time in audio I am facing an echo problem.
I have this online poker game that i play often.I'm curios now, i wxit the game, restart the browser, change my ip,and it still recognizes me next time i come to the site.If necessary i will provide a link (if it's allowed).
I am using uploadify which uses a flash uploader. If the user doesn't have flash installed nothing shows except a blank white page.point me in the right direction of some code to prompt the user to download flash, similar to a <noscript> coding.
Does anybody knows how to use the XML as a holder for the values that will be given by the user for example. Parent's name: _. then whatever the user's input i should move that and hold that by the xml. i just dont how. i read lot of books but i can't find any answer. This is for my senior project.URL...
I am looking at taking on a project that will be a considerable challenge since I come from a LAMP development environment. I am wanting to create a Flash driven community with chat and profiles. In PHP I know how I would go about handling the data as everything is put together on the server and returned to the user completely formatted, however adding a flash layer on top of it present a problem. I am not sure how to transport data from the server to a flash file without using XML. The obvious problem that I see is as more people are online, Sending updated XML files to flash could become a bandwidth hog and make for a slow UI. best method of moving result data from a PHP script to Flash without using XML or is that going to be the only viable option? My concern is load time. Also is there a good way of unloading data once it is no longer used (ie Photos).
is it possible using actionscript to determine what operating system the flash projector is running on. I'm producing a swf that is to run from a cd-rom and so will be published as an .exe for windows and a .app for mac...parts of the presentation change depending on what os the user is running it on. I don't want to have to publish, change things and then republish. If it were a swf embedded on a web page, the browser would provide all those details...
I'm a developer on nice space MMO using Flash. On new PCs performance is quite good, but some features shouldn't be enabled on older PCs because the framerate drops to shit if we do. Flash wasn't made for this, but hey, pushing boundaries is fun.
An example is fullscreen mode. Of course every user can manually enable it, but "advertising" it to a user with and oldie PC would be a bad idea - but for the Alienware crowd it would be dumb not to.
So I want to find out how "capable" a user's PC is to decide if I should enable or disable some features for him.
I have a hosted site with 2 different domains pointing to it,example:[url]..and [url]...Is there anyway to read the url where the user came from in flash? I could change my flash movie according to the url of the user..In ASP i use:
When a user does not have a flash player... and enters a flash website...is there a way flash can recognise this and with a click he/she can download the latest flash player from that site?
When a user does not have a flash player... and enters a flash website...is there a way flash can recognise this and with a click he/she can download the latest flash player from that site?
I have been learning flash and Actionscript 3 for the past couple of weeks and i have progressed nicely with making a site. I have some images being loaded into a MovieClip which are dynamically loaded from on XML. I can set it up so clicking left/right arrows navigates through the pictures and loops or i can set it so it automatically plays without user intervention.
What i would like to do though is have the images loaded into the MC via XML but have it so that when the Actionscript analyses the XML code it creates a small circle on the stage for each image (child) and then each circle is clickable to that particular image. I know this sounds confusing so i am i just seeing if it's possible and if so how. I can easily create frames and links for the circles but i would rather it be done through AS3 if possible so that it is easily updatable.
