In some cases, such as what my client wants - Flash 6 and Flash 7 players behave slightly differently... a very annoying thing at times.Now, what I need to be able to do is to detect what version of Flash Player the user has. This will be done while my flash application is playing and then run the appropriate part of the function I am writing.Any way to detect what version of Flash Player is running from within the Flash Player?

We have a custom flash video player. It uses streaming over a hosted FMS $50/month account.Some users are complaining that the video doesn't play at all.ith one of these users, we had them go to a speed test website and it was determined that they had a very slow connection which we are assuming is what is causing them to not be able view the video.So before we try to load the video we want to determine their connection speed. Then if they have a good enough connection we will play the video and if not then we will do something else like play a lower quality video or simply display a message and not play a video at all.

Is there a way for a Flash Facebook app in an iFrame to detect if the user is a fan of the page using the Graph API for Actionscript 3? If not can I achieve the same goal using Javascript? without asking the user for permission (no access token required).

I'm wondering wether there's a Javascript way to detect wether a user has any sort of flash blocking plugin installed so i can accommodate these users properly. For example, I use 'click to flash', but sites that use SiFR to render text are littered with "click to flash" buttons, which is getting very annoying. I don't use SiFR in my designs for this reason. But if I could spot wether there's a flash blocking plugin installed, I would simply not call the SiFR function.

I've got a problem with flash detection. I use this script from kirupa.com:
PHP Code:
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE=JavaScript1.1>
<!--
var MM_contentVersion = 6;
var plugin = (navigator.mimeTypes && navigator.mimeTypes["application/x-shockwave-flash"]) ? navigator.mimeTypes["application/x-shockwave-flash"].enabledPlugin : 0;
if ( plugin ) {
[Code]...

I have written a basic chat client that talks to an XML Socket server. When it starts it connects to the socket and works fine. However, when I close the Flash Player it is still occupying a connection to the server. I am trying to determine how I can trap the close of the Flash Player and programmatically close the connection to the server before the program exits.

ran into a sticky situation the other day where a douchebag anti shockwave moron showed me our shh doesn't work: we obviously detect if flashplayer X.X exists and we do print some html mirror accordingly but for some, idiotic I might say, reason, if it is there and it is disabled, the detections still return true - well who the heck wants to know that then, ah? totally a case of sour grapes I might say - yes, it is there, but yeah well it's useless...
so anyhow - web's full of gr8 workarounds for detection etc... is there an actual proper reliable code to detect no flash, even if it's disabled?!

I know how to detect if Flash player is installed in a browser. I'm using the hasFlashPlayerVersion() function of swfobject for that. However, I can't seem to find any documentation on how to detect if the plug-in is installed and just disabled. I didn't see any documentation in the Flash Player Detection Kit that checks if the plug-in is enabled either.

I would like to find out if there is a way for a message to pop up on my website if the user has Flash Player version lower than 10.1. If the version 10.1 or higher (in the future) no message should come up. The message should prompt a user to update to the Flash Player version 10.1. My entire site is in Flash and I am using AS3. So I am guessing I should implement an AS3 code on the first frame of the script layer. Does anyone know what would be this code?

I am fairly new to actionscript 3, and coding in general, and I am trying to build a music application with a user account system, using which each different user can access their own music files.
I have found many tutorials online on how to create music players and playlists, user login systems, but nothing that combines these into one application.

At the moment I'm using Selenium-Flex to write functional tests for a video playback app.At the moment, I need to test that the app behaves appropriately when switched to fullscreen mode - make sure that the control bar is in a reasonable spot, the video resizes appropriately, etc., and of course to do that I need an automated way to make Flash Player go fullscreen.
For good reason, Flash's security features prevent being able to fullscreen except in response to user input. Actual user input, a javascript callback being called does not count.Is there any way to disable this security feature on my test rig, so I can actually run my automated tests on fullscreen mode? Barring that, is there any way to put Flash into fullscreen mode externally, so I can hack it up to work that way?

I have developed a flex application (Flex 4.5.1).I want the flex application to be used only by the domain names that I allow. As soon as the application is loaded, I check with the remote database if the domain name is valid.
The problem is that flash player only returns the domain name of the user's machine. What I want is the domain name of the website that the flex application is part of. For instance, if the webpage I browse for my flash application is[url]...., I need [url]...or [url].... Is that possible? Every method I have tried only returns the name of the website visitor's computer.

From a Flash object, I would like to be able to detect the presence of a webcam that the user might grant access to, without actually asking the user whether they want to grant access. This is to streamline a large application that has extra features if a webcam exists — if there is a webcam, the application will present several dialogs that lead up to the normal cam-security prompt, but if the user doesn't have the hardware, I want to skip over them altogether. Requesting access to the cam before those dialogs won't make sense to the user.
It appears not to be possible to call Camera.getCamera() without the security prompt happening. Is there a workaround? (For instance, could I, perhaps, call getCamera in a hidden Flash object and inspect its return value, or does it block until the user acknowledges the security prompt?)

Is there a way for flash to detect a user's bandwidth, and depending the size of bandwidth, stop loading, or continue with the load? Now that I'm thinking about it, this would probably be a javascript detection script and if the bandwidth is high, load .swf, if not load a .jpg?
