I had been developing one Flex application , in that users are allowed to upload there own swfs . The problem is, my application has a frame Rate of 11 , if the user tries to upload the swf with higher frame and audio with it( ie Framerate of 24 with AudioFLV ). this makes my application to run at the higher frame rate of that same user uploaded swf.

View 4 RepliesI'm recording Webcam to FMS 3.5 but when I play the recorded video from FMS it's choppy. I have set the camera.fps to 30 but when I trace out the currentFPS for camera it's variable and usually falls between 20 and 30. However when I play the recorded video, netStream's currentFPS returns a lower value, something closer to 10. So my question is, 1) why currentFPS of netStream is not the same as Camera's? 2) What's the actual frame rate of the recorded video (not the netStream, but FLV's)?

View 2 RepliesI'm sort of re-discovering Flash. As such, I'm a bit rusty with all the ActionScript and general techniques. I have a site that loads swfs on higher levels with loadMovieNum (i.e., a pop-up photo gallery). The only problem lies in lower level buttons still remaining active; apart from the aesthetic issue, I don't want the user to be able to "accidentally" click something on level0. Is there a general method for keeping the "focus" on the highest level, or making any interactive elements below inactive?
View 4 RepliesI've got this interactive poem I've been working on for a class. I've basically finished each "episode" seperately. I made a parent document which essentially loads one of the ten child documents onto the respective key frame. Here's a sample of the code for the first key frame of the parent document:

Well Two things are messed up about it, well my "ChildTimeline2" variable will off and on assosciate itslef not with the main time line of a child document, but of a nested symbol inside said child document. Even worse, the "gotoAndStop();" command I will give sometimes applies to Parent document... yaay! but often it will apply to the child document. The end result being this horrible looping moment where you are stuck in one child document for all time.
I wish I could attach the documents but they exceed the 300KB. how I can get Actionscript to listen fro the last frame of the maintimeline of the child document, or tell flash to gotoandStop for the parent document
I'm trying to write an if then statement that will loop back to frame 1 once the next frame it hits is higher than 5. For some reason it doesn't work and I could easily go to frame six and add a go to and play but, I'd like to learn what's wrong instead of doing it the easy way.

I've created a flash website and have split it up into different swfs and have added pre loaders so it loads more cleanly. When I preview the site the links open up the external swfs no problem, but once the site it uploaded the swfs don't load, it appears that the main movie restarts insted of the external swfs (only the contact button works because it's part of the main movie).The 4 buttons at the bottom of the main page go to frames with the follwing or similar action script

This frame also contains the clip (designplay) which the design.swf should load into. It appears the issue is with the paths, I've spent a long time trying to fix this and just can't get it.

I have several custom components all of which are included in the parent application.When I try to change state from a custom component, I get an error saying "undefined state: state name". How do I change the state of the application from within a custom component ?
View 2 RepliesI am creating a Flex application with a component that displays various dynamically loaded SWFs, one at a time (kind of like a kiosk). These loaded SWFs are created in Flash IDE, not Flex. They will not be created by us (we will provide a .fla template but that's it), so I am loading them into a separate SecurityDomain.
My Questions:
I want the application to be able to call methods inside the loaded SWF. To do this, would I just call Security.allowDomain("domain original app was loaded from") in the startup process for the loaded SWF? I want the loaded SWF to be able to throw events that are caught by the application. Can I accomplish this through the SWFLoader.swfBridge property? I am defining an interface for the methods inside the loaded SWF. But, I don't want to leave the implementation up to the customer. Instead, I want to provide another SWF that contains the interface implementation and have it be a constraint that the customer includes it in their SWF. I am not very familiar with the Flash authoring environment, how would it work so that the interface implementation SWF exposes its methods in such a way to be accessible to Flex? Is there a way to sign the SWF so that the Flex application knows that it is dealing with the original, not a spoof? How would the Flex code pass in arguments, since it is across SecurityDomain boundary -- is there marshalling involved (say if I want to pass in a Dictionary or some kind of object graph)? The Flex application may load hundreds of these smaller other SWFs during its lifetime. How do I make sure it doesn't keep using up more memory? I plan on using SWFLoader.unloadAndStop() and clearing all references in the Flex object that refers to it. Is this enough? Will the AppDomain for the loaded SWF be torn down automatically so that the class definitions are no longer in memory?

That is to say that the button is inside of a few movie clips but the frame I want to point to is just in the main scene, not inside of movie clips

I am building a compartmentalized Flex application which uses <SWFLoader > to load additional Flex applications inside it. I am currently planning on using the LocalConnection class to have these two applications talk to each other, but I'm wondering if there's any kind of event driven way to have actions in the internal application propagate to the parent application, and/or any way for the parent application to trigger events in the internal application?

I got a MovieClip filled with a lot of others clips... When I change de X or Y value of this first MovieClip the frame rate slows down for during 1 frame. For exemple... I created a counter that returns around 30 mseconds every frame, but when I do this X or Y change the return is around 400 mseconds... When I try to fill the first MovieClip with less information it goes faster, about 100+-200 mseconds...
View 6 RepliesSimple drag and drop application where mc is dragged out of one parent mc and dropped into another parent mc.All works OK until I added 2 text boxes to the mc's -- one is a non-selectable dynamic text box (a label) which is set by the code, the other is selectable input text that the user can amend.
Finger cursor disappears when user hovers over the section of the mc that contains the text fields (even non-selectable text??) When the user trys to drag the mc by inadvertantly click-dragging anywhere within both text areas it causes this error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.text::TextField@2374a381 to flash.display. MovieClip (same error appears for both text boxes)
The input text box may confuse the user - how do they sometimes click to drag and sometimes click to amend? I need to create an overlay area within the mc that is click-detected for the drag? Here's the relevant bits of code:

I am deploying a flex application in sharepoint as a web part. I am planning to use sharepoint user credentials for my flex application. My flex application consists of various different user roles like author,reviewer etc . An author should be able to see all the list of sharepoint users available and can make any number of them as reviewer or author . For this I require following functionality through sharepoint for my flex application:-
1) Getting list of all users of sharepoint
2) Getting the username of the current logged in user of sharepoint through the flex application, which is deployed as a web part in sharepoint.
I ran a simple live video streaming application for the first time with actual users and ran into a couple of serious performance issues that had not turned up during testing. In this instance there was one video stream from a live web cam and used FMLE at 150 kbps using VP6 and MP3 @22k. There were 16 clients and everything worked pretty good for about 30 minutes. (although some clients said their audio and video were out of sync by up to 3 seconds)
Then individual clients would have either the video freeze or the video would continue and the audio would stop. These clints had to "disconnect" and then "connect" again to the application. This happened to all of the clients at one time or another for several minutes. I stopped and restarted the FMLE with progessively lower bandwidth settings down to 75 kbps but still clients were having the same issue.
I eventually stopped the FMLE and used the applications built in publisher at 45 kbps and that seemed to eliminate the freeze/dropping issue. But of course the video quality was very poor and some clients still reported that the audio was out of sync with the video. The server hosting the FMS application is a quad processor dell with lots of memory and network connectivity. The Flash Media Admin Console performance graph showed the total Bandwidth as 3 Mbps at maximum.
I'm using Google Engine App with Python. I want to add custom user authentication. How is it done, with the best practices? I want custom authentication because the app is built in Flex and I don't want to redirect to an HTML page.

I need to implement some sort of data locking in a Flex application I'm developing. A user clicks a specific button to "check out" the data set, and other users must wait until they are finished before they can make edits. After a period of inactivity, the application will release the lock to someone else.What I'm after is an easy way to determine if the user is still interacting with the application so they don't have to manually keep clicking "yes I want to continue editing". For example, I could handle all mouse clicks for the entire application and add 5 minutes to the timeout every time they click something. Are there any better options for doing something like this? Is there something built in to check for last interaction time?

View 3 RepliesFor one of my projects I need users to be able to communicate with each other in an audio mode. The thing I'm concerned about is the scalability of the project if it even gets big in terms of bandwidth consumption.
What are the alternatives to passing the audio through my server to the users?Is it possible to create a link between two users so they can exchange their stream of data (audio in this case) so that it doesn't pass through me, while still being able to control the time they've been connected to each other and some other information?
As for now it's just an idea I have in mind but I don't really know what to look into. I think it will probably need to be some plugin dependant solution so that's why I tagged the question like that.
I'm not looking for a concrete solution, just a little push in the right direction from someone who has been through something similar.
I have application with a viewstack witch load 5 modules. each module is loaded via the moduleLoader tag and they all have an id.
Every loaded module has a context menu. the context menu has 5 menuItems. one menuItem for each view for the viewstack.
The context menu is loaded via xml.

I want users to be able to upload audio files to my server (say, over HTTP.. mechanism doesn't matter much), and then I'd like to assemble those files into a playlist and stream them out over a live RTMP stream to a Flash widget.The catch is: I'd like to begin streaming the audio files before they completely finish uploading. For example, if a user uploads an hour-long mp3, I'd like it to be able to begin playing on the RTMP stream once, say, the first minute has been uploaded.I'd like to support mp3 and AAC, and would hope to avoid re-encoding the files. Is is there a way to make this work with Wowza, Flash Media Server, or some other clever solution?

View 2 RepliesI'm writing a small application for myself and instead of using a database I'd like to just use Excel to store the small amount of data I have on my local file system. I want to be able to load that data without having to use the typical FileReference browse() method as it would just be annoying to do every time I use the application.
The code below seems to find the file fine as the file.exists method below and most of the other attributes seem to be correct but the file.data is always null.I'm guessing this is a security issue and that's why I'm running into this problem but I thought I'd ask and see if there is in fact a way around this problem.
