Actionscript :: Making Sure User Is Still Active In A Flex Application
Feb 18, 2011
I need to implement some sort of data locking in a Flex application I'm developing. A user clicks a specific button to "check out" the data set, and other users must wait until they are finished before they can make edits. After a period of inactivity, the application will release the lock to someone else.What I'm after is an easy way to determine if the user is still interacting with the application so they don't have to manually keep clicking "yes I want to continue editing". For example, I could handle all mouse clicks for the entire application and add 5 minutes to the timeout every time they click something. Are there any better options for doing something like this? Is there something built in to check for last interaction time?
Is it possible to get somehow list of running applications/processes and, while running in background, check which process is active?
Additionally - if somehow, the answer was yes, is it possible to react for change of active window / application react just as if it was Event, or bind to it custom event (e.g. Event.SystemActiveAppChange)?
EDIT: Due to probable missunderstanding, I mean local applications - on your win/mac/linux machine - I would like to (in process of learning of language) track what apps I use the most, make a little graph maybe?
So, the point is: in AIR app, developed in FLEX, I would like to get/list all running applications/processes, as well as which one is active (on user's PC/Mac/Linux)
I have an Flex 4 application (not AIR) which has some floating windows that act essentially as modeless dialogs.Right now, if two of these are open at once they function as siblings which are both active and whose controls are enabled for user interaction.I now need to maintain some notion of which one is "active" in the application. I don't want to /disable/ the non-active ones so as to blur them or prevent input on their controls.
I basically want to replicate basic OS window management: when you click or type into a control in one window it comes to the front and its title bar looks "active" and the others then look "inactive". Just like with a bunch of explorers in Windows.
I am deploying a flex application in sharepoint as a web part. I am planning to use sharepoint user credentials for my flex application. My flex application consists of various different user roles like author,reviewer etc . An author should be able to see all the list of sharepoint users available and can make any number of them as reviewer or author . For this I require following functionality through sharepoint for my flex application:-
1) Getting list of all users of sharepoint
2) Getting the username of the current logged in user of sharepoint through the flex application, which is deployed as a web part in sharepoint.
So I have an html page that contains a link which opens another html page with a swf embedded in it. In the swf, the user has to type in some information in order to advance through the swf. The problem is that in order to type in information, the user has to click inside the swf in order to make it work. Is there a way to make the swf automatically active so that they don't have to click inside the window first?
That's the link and I hope it opens for you if you want to see it. This is the HTML that opens after you click on the link inside the main HTML.
I'm using Google Engine App with Python. I want to add custom user authentication. How is it done, with the best practices? I want custom authentication because the app is built in Flex and I don't want to redirect to an HTML page.
The user value object is like this: class User(db.Model): email = db.EmailProperty(required = True, indexed = True) masked_password = db.StringProperty(required = True) # maybe more things here
I would like to mask the password, is there some built in function in GAE? Then, how I will remember the current user? Through sessions and cookies? Or what else?
What's the standard way of storing user preferences in a Flex application for AIR? I need to store simple parameters like lists of recently opened files, window positions and sizes etc.
I'm writing a small application for myself and instead of using a database I'd like to just use Excel to store the small amount of data I have on my local file system. I want to be able to load that data without having to use the typical FileReference browse() method as it would just be annoying to do every time I use the application.
The code below seems to find the file fine as the file.exists method below and most of the other attributes seem to be correct but the file.data is always null.I'm guessing this is a security issue and that's why I'm running into this problem but I thought I'd ask and see if there is in fact a way around this problem.
var file:File = new File(fullPath + "\" + currentFolder + ".txt"); if(file.exists) { var byteArray:ByteArray = file.data; }
One of our application is implemented in flex and adobe air. We want to have the user press combination of keys, say 'ABC', and have the keyboard return a different character, 'FOG', to whatever app is in focus. This should work even if app has no focus.
Will it possible in Adobe Air/Flex? If yes, provide me some examples?
im having trouble making the buttons within my drop down menu active.basically, on the main timeline, i have a movieclip, and within it have a button that once u roll over it, will go to another instance in that timeline to display a drop down menu located below it (with buttons). these buttons do not perform any actions to the main timeline regardless where i place the actionscript or how i point to those buttons.
I am designing a game that will be at a tradeshow which means lots of people walking by. The problem it seems is that once kinect sees you "New user" even if you are just strolling by it seems to kill or mess up the ONISkeletonEvent.USER_TRACKING data when that user is "LOST".
This thing needs to ship end of week. I thought I could handle this by assigning an activeUserID and filtering based on that but it just doesn't care. When it "LOST USER" it is game over even if that was just someone watching and then moving away.
I am new to actionscript 3. I have created buttons with up/over/down states. The button changes colour during the over/down frames.How do I keep the over or down state active until the user clicks another button?
Right now when the user puts the mouse over the buttons, they change colour, but it goes back to the original colour once they click off. I would like it to remain on the changed colour so that the user remembers which button s/he's pressed until the another one is clicked.I came up with the following code in actionscript 3 and got it to partially work:
So when it's in the down state, I get the transparent state and stays there. But how do I get it back to normal when the user clicks on another button?
It is possible to make file transfer from air application via server?I think need to create like byte array streaming or somethink like this from sender and write the destination file on receiver user pc.
My Flex application is heavily keyboard-oriented. It uses 100% of the browser window and I'd like the user to be able to start using it immediately - as soon as it loads. However, it seems that the application is only first "activated" (i.e. the activate event fires) when the mouse clicks somewhere inside it, which is very inconvenient for my keyboard-heavy app.
Can I force an activation of my app at some point during/after it loads? I hope I don't have to display some silly "click inside to activate" overlay every time the page loads..
In certain browsers ([cough] Chrome [/cough]) the focus is lost whenever the user switches away from the browser (or even touches the address bar) and is not regained when switching back. So the solution has to take in consideration not just the first focus when the page loads but also "re-focusing".
Currently i'm developing a facebooks apps with falsh application. i've have completed the development with all API required to run a facebook apps. Everything went well and it's live now. My question :
1. How can make user to go directly to the application page everytime they click the link posted by user who already use the application instead going to the canvas page applications. i'm been trying to look for the article that support saying that user will go directly to application directly to canvas application page instead of going to the application page.
I had been developing one Flex application , in that users are allowed to upload there own swfs . The problem is, my application has a frame Rate of 11 , if the user tries to upload the swf with higher frame and audio with it( ie Framerate of 24 with AudioFLV ). this makes my application to run at the higher frame rate of that same user uploaded swf.
Is there a way of getting the current active document path from the flash application by AppleScript? The only command available in the Adobe Flash dictionary for applescript is "do script", can I call a script to get the path of active document?
I am making a quiz what I want to do is: when the user types in the correct answer a tick appears and when they type in a wrong answer a cross appears I want this to happen on a single frame. How to make these type in boxes and how to make the above stuff happen.
in my project i am making one line graph using createEmptyMovieclip() function, and i want to add facility of making multiple copy of that graph to user and for that copy facility i am using duplicateMovieclip() function but when i execute that only parent object(Graph_mc) is copied and the child object(Line_mc) which is created with help of 'createEmptyMovieclip()' function inside the graph , does not copy.If i create same object (Line_mc) on '_root' it will copied.
my code is .....
//for create graph onClipEvent(load){ ang = 0 spd = 2
I would like a Flash application to remember the settings that a user on a specific machine or specific browser has earlier set. This is possible, right? What's the most neat way of doing this? Using some kind of a flash cache?
The specifications where as follows: there should be a black square in which there is a faint picture of a sign. The user must be able to draw in the square and when he repeats the contours of the sign correctly - a popup appears.I made myself familiar with the ways you can allow a user to draw. However I have no idea how would you know if the two shapes/signs match and whether the user at least approximately drew the correct contour/sign
I want to make a digital framing application like at this website:URL...Im not sure if i would be able to make this with an adobe program or if its something i would have to download off the internet.
I'm wanting to build a project, it's an online video creation software in Flash so people could upload some music, choose videos from a library, edit the whole thing and export and download a movie in the end. I've seen websites like www.Animoto.com close to what I want to do but I can't find how it's made and I'd like to make it a little more advanced when it come to editing.
Here is the design I'm thinking about for the flash video editor. Is possible to build such a video editor in Flash?
client has suggested that they would like a multi userdrawing board online.Basically i need to demo something that two users can draw onto at the same time, my host has php and mysql which i would like to stick with as I have a basic understanding of the technologys
I'm building an AIR desktop app with facebook support using Adobe Flash builder. So far it's working alright, except for one detail, once a user logs in, that session stays open, even if the logout button is pressed. My logout code look like so:
protected function logout():void { FacebookDesktop.logout(handleLogout, APP_ORIGIN); }
I set APP_ORIGIN to "". I checked Adobe's documentation and they say: appOrigin:String (default = null) ” (Optional) The site url specified for your app. Required for clearing html window cookie. But I don't know what that means, what is the 'site url specified by my app'? Where do I get it? Sorry if this is a noob question.
I'm making an interactive kind of game, and I want a number of scenes to change once the user has looked at each once.For example, they go into three different scenes. When they finish looking at them all, Flash records this, and then when they look back at each scene again, they've all changed.
