View 3 RepliesMy testing on the Mac side is pointing toward the Behaviors palette as to the culprit in this issue. As soon as I open that palette in my workspace, the ability to double click on a layer name in the Timeline palette stops. I have to right click and select Properties from the popup menu. Resetting my custom workspace does resolve the problem.

ok so i know the general code to rename all selected library items

but this isn't good enough if the library items are in folders... because item.name returns the full path, but item.name sets the name. o.O as someone else points out here, [URL]
so when i try to rename Level1 to be ABC_Level1 if Level1's folder path is LIBRARY/FolderA/FolderB/Level1 i get this instead ABC_FolderA-FolderB-Level1
i could probably code some sort of string parser something like this,
item.name = "ABC_"+item.name.substr(item.name.lastIndexOf("-"), 99)
but that is really ugly and would not work if library items contained "-" already. "Level-1" for example

I need to rename an xml file and then change its contents so I use this:ActionScript Code:[code].....
On the event complete,I open the xml i just renamed, open it, change some information and then I have to write it, however flash tells me the file is still being used :S

just wanted to know where is it preferred to keep your .as files? I've seen examples where people store them in a separate folder (ex. Actionscript/MainTimeline.as) but I've also seen examples where people just keep all the .as in their .fla file.

I mean, Flash Cs5 ide has this little "protect from import" option but I don't think that's enough.I mean, the only thing I can think of is a scrambler.Something that would rename all variables, functions, and custom classes to some random hash. View 1 Repliesi am trying to create a flash movie for my browser page. i am able to import and export the movie just fine, the problem comes after i export the movie. As long as i leave the flash file in the folder it was created in things work great. If i try to move the folder or rename the folder it stops working. It acts like it cant find the flv file i created the flash with. if i rename or move the folder back where it was created things work fine.
View 2 RepliesI'm working as a freelancer in a flash project. The project includes a list of as2 files which I need to edit and debug. I was going to do that using flash cs3 but every time I try to open an as2 file I get an "Unexpected file format" error message. The files are strictly text and (not binary), but it seems flash cs3 won't open files with a '.as2' extension (e.g.scriptfile1.as2). If I rename the file so it holds the .as extension (e.g. scriptfile1.as) then cs3 opens it fine. Unfortunately I cannot rename these files since I'm not the owner of the project, I merely make some modifications.

So, I have labels on the frames basically and need a preloader to play the "loading" frames as it is loading the "content" frames. Does that make sense? I have no idea how to even start this one... p.s. I am using AS 2.0, but if it can be done in 3.0 easier, I can switch over its no biggie
View 4 Repliesthere seems to be no accepted method of playing multiple flv using buttons. My latest attempt has me putting multiple instances of the flvPlayback component in different frames and using buttons to navigate to those frames. It works but nothing anyone has posted anywhere will result in removing the flv when you go to a different frame and instance. This was simple in AS2. Load movie to a traget and each time you load a new movie the other one goes away. REALLY goes away.

I have to place the incrementCount(): function every 12 frames so that it increments the values. Seems like it would be easier to simply modify the script to count "every 12 frames" but I can't find anything that tells me how to "count frames" in flash. Seems to be this is probably basic but I've searched unsuccessfully....so how do you do this. How do I get my script to work so it's frame based so I don't have to put incrementCount() every 12 frames?
Is it possible to have an movieclip of about 50 frames and navigate between these 50 frames? As if u put a marker on frame 10 and one at frame 30 and if u use a button it plays to frame 10 and stops and use another button to go from frame 10 to frame 30 and stop... and reverse if u use the earlier button.

View 3 Repliesi have my portfolio website which is a 1.5mb big flash presentation and i thought about making a preloader.the problem is that making a preloader for the entire site will take too long to load. i have tried that.
so i thought about making a preloader for each "page" or section of my presentation. for example- just for syneron, or just for m-systems (with each of them have a few diferent pages in the presentation, but their size is managable).
the problem is that i cant find anything is the preloader code that will let met control what frames to preload (for example, frames 100-200).
Say I have a project with many layers, and varying timelines. I now need to do some as3 to add some stuff. So, I create my actions layer. In frame 150, I want some text to appear. Is it ok to insert a keyframe on the actions layer at frame 150, and add the as3 here?
