AS3 :: Removing EventListeners Without Knowing Amount Or Names?

Apr 28, 2010

First shortly about how my site works: When a link is clicked it checks if something is already displayed in either the Left or Right side of the screen (the website looks like a book, so I have a left page I want to display information on and a right page). If there is already something showing it hides it and displays the new object, together with this it enables all the buttons within that object (I have separate functions to set up each object).

An example of such an EventListener would be:

pathTo.Button1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function():void {showText(side, object)});

What I'm trying to do is to remove all the previous set EventListeners without having to create separate functions for removing the links inside every object as well.

How do I remove all EventListeners on all objects inside another object? The only variable I want to store is the object containing everything. There are however not always EventListeners within the objects.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Removing EventListeners When Unloading?

Aug 19, 2009

I have main.swf and content.swf. I load content into main. When I try to unload it gives me error, due to the fact that in my content.swf I have MouseMove event and this event is causing this error:

ActionScript Code:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at content_fla::MainTimeline/onLoop()

How to properly kill all eventListeners?

My main.swf code:

ActionScript Code:

addChild(holder);

I did some research and it seems quite an issue - especially when trying to remove, enterFrame, mouseMove or stage listeners. Im using CS3.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Using A Pair Of Eventlisteners For All Mover Clips With Incrementing Names?

Jun 4, 2010

I have set up a roll_over / roll_out listener that works for me, but the event only applies to "inBulb_mc". As I have it set now, a bunch of squares are blinking through random colors. I want the mouseover to pause this event no matter which mc i mouse over. Is there a way to indicate that this should work for any instancename "inBulb_mc"+number.

using a variable such as i=0; i++ ; won't work because i need it to happen wherever the mouse is.

Quote:

inBulb_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, manageMouseOver, false, 0, true);
inBulb_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, manageMouseOut, false, 0, true);

Is there a way to set it up so that the listener works for all instances of inBulb_mc, be it inBulb_mc0 inBulb_mc1 inBulb_mc2 etc

Actionscript 2.0 :: Video Amount Played More Than Amount Loaded?

Feb 11, 2012

So I have been having a serious issue with custom video where flash is saying that the amount of the video so far played is MORE than the amount that it has downloaded, which is clearly impossible. This results in various problems, such as the playhead (scrubber) moving past the end of the loader bar.I posted a simple demo that displays the amount loaded and the amount played in text fields. You can see it at: URL...[code]I encoded the video at a high rate so that it would download slowly. It may not playback smoothly, which I am not concerned about. What I am concerned about is the numbers below the video what are derived from ns.bytesLoaded and ns.time. If you watch it for a bit, the amount played should exceed the amount loaded.

I double checked the video duration and the bytestotal that flash is reporting and they are correct. I don't know of any way to check the accuracy of bytesloaded.If your internet connection is super fast, you may not see the issue - it only occurs when it is playing back faster than it is downloading - if this is the case, you may need to throttle your speed down, or start downloading a large file while you are watching this demo in order to see the issue.But this is a serious issue and means that building custom video interfaces with loadbars and playheads is impossible!

We're trying to import this into Flash and keep the layer names intact, such that they become the names of the movie clips that are imported for each layer and can be used programmatically. (It is a diagram and arrows, boxes, etc all have callout names that will eventually allow them to link to a database.)As near as I can tell, the Import dialog will NOT pass this info across between the two parts of the dialog.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Instance Names And Variable Names: It Goes Deeper

Mar 20, 2011

I started a thread about a reference to a symbol House, in the output window, which was: House_1. A lot of people said some useful things about that. All day I've been thinking about it, and I came to the conclusion that I don't understand things, at a very basic level.

Consider:I make a movieclip which I give the Symbol name Drawer. (I don't export it for AcitonScript.)On the stage I manually place two instances of this Symbol. The first one I give the Instance Name drawer (in the properties panel). The second one I leave nameless.Now if I trace the names of both these clips, by

trace(this.getChildAt(0).name);
trace(this.getChildAt(1).name);

the output window gives me

drawer
instance2

Now I know that the so-called "instance name" which I gave in the Properties Panel (drawer) is, in reality, a variable name which Flash gives my first instance behind the scenes. And instance2 is a name that Flash gives my second instance. What exactly the nature of that name is, I do not know.My point is: both names (drawer and instance2) are the .name property of these movieclips. Otherwise I could not have traced them through asking for the .name property, in the above. Yet only the first of these two can be manipulated:

drawer.x can be set;
instance2.x can (as we know) not be set.

But...why? What is the real difference between these two kinds of names? How can they both be the .name property of their underlying movieclip, yet be of such a different nature? What IS the nature of the instance2 name? If it's a String, how come the .name property of one movieclip can be a variable name, while the .name property of another (but identical) movieclip is a String?

I've searched every bit of web page on the net I could find. But it looks as if nobody addresses this issue. We all just work with it - but it makes no bloody sense. A name property = a name property, you'd think. Whether Flash set it or I set it should not make a difference. The x property of a clip, for example, does not change in nature according to who set it - me or Flash.So, again, just to emphasize the problem: how can a property (the name property) of a movieclip change in NATURE depending on who set it? After it's been set, shouldn't the name property of a clip be of exactly the same nature as the name property of another clip?

Actionscript 3.0 :: Knowing When A Complex Object Is Completed

Sep 16, 2009

I'm trying to use the BitmapData.draw() method on a sprite which I create through my own external class, but all I was getting was white. Finally figured out that it was taking a half a second or so for the sprite to pop up on the stage, and the draw method was apparently "pixelizing" it before it was drawn.

So my question is, how does one know when a non-loaded object is "ready"? Do I need to add my own event sent from the end of the external constructor code? I don't want to modify the class just to snap a picture of it. Waiting an arbitrary amount of time with a timer seems wasteful too.

Code: Select allvar bc:BarChart = new BarChart(500, 300);
addChild(bc);}
var bitmapData:BitmapData = new BitmapData(500, 300);

ActionScript 3.0 :: Knowing When An Object Moved Globally?

May 5, 2011

I saw this question a few times here and there but it never had a satisfying answer... It may be that there really is no elegant way to solve this (Polling for change in ENTER_FRAME is really bad!) but I've got to ask one last time.

I'm a Flex developer but it doesn't really matter in this case.

I would like to know when an object's global x/y was modified (or its transform's concatenated matrix's tx/ty, same thing), maybe because an indirect parent somewhere moved, etc.In particular, I have the object's gran gran gran parent which gets its scrollrect changed.

Say you have a class Parent, which has a property childArray:Array. In this array, we will register several instances of the class Child. Is there an easy way for a child to know which position in the array it currently has? I know I could just pass the index number into the child as I register them, but if a child were to be deleted from the array, all children past the deleted childs index would need to have their indexes updatedl. While this is of course not a huge task, I just have this feeling it should be a better and more dynamic solution.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Comparing Object Type By Only Knowing Class Name

Sep 12, 2011

I am trying to find an object in the display list. All that is known, is the name of the class. I recursively iterate through every child in the display list to find my object's instance, and unfortunately everything was instantiated at runtime and was given a generic instance name. This videoplayer has around 300 children(ugh), and through trial and error I found my instance I need to get a hold of, instance60. Now it would be fine by using just the instance name, but the thought of it being called a different instance name would send this program into insanity.
