If I use an XMLConnector component to access variables inside a 5mb XML file, does this mean that flash will (implicitly) download that full XML file to the local computer and then parse it to get the requested variables???

Does anyone know what would make a movie slow down the longer it is open. Theres nothing that I can think of this is constantly running, but after about 15 minutes of the website being open it slows down almost unresponsive.

View 3 RepliesThe Flash file that I've attached plays very slow on my other, older computers. It plays fine on mine, but these older computers play other flash files (i.e adobe.com) fine. I want to know if I'm missing something here as to how making this play efficiently. I understand that I am using photographs - rasterized images - but, is it really supposed to take that much power to play it?

Unfortunately the school system doesnt try to recover stuff, they just wipe it.What I want is basically a gaming wheel (like at a carnival, the kind you spin).I want to be able to have a .jpg or something that I can modify (if I change the lesson later, or for different outcomes, just replace the .jpg with a same sized wheel).I just want to hit a button, make it spin, slow down, and stop. Maybe a second graphic of just a pointer at the top that overlaps it so you know where it lands. It doesn't even have to stop exactly on one 'category' or 'slot'. It just needs to slow down and stop randomly.
View 3 RepliesI have a Flash output file that uses both LoadVars and XMLConnectors. While LoadVars all work on all tested browsers, XMLConnector does something very strange and ONLY on Internet Explorer. When I try to use it, the listeners for the XMLConnector say send (using GET Method), status is correct (StatusChange), but the data that returns is crazy (outputs 11). I am suppose to get a full xml data stream, but all I get is 11. This happens in IE (PC) only. In Netscape on PC or Mac) it is fine, on Firefox (PC or Mac) is it fine, on Safari it is fine. SO, has anyone able to use the XMLConnector properly on IE (FP8)? The parameters for the problem are: Flash Player 8, Internet Explorer 6, PC.
View 3 RepliesI'm writing a game that use the XMLConnector object to bring local xml data into a DataSet object. My URL is, for example: data/quiz.xml. I have everything working well. But I'm localizing my game for Czech and Russian and when the game is installed to a path with Czech specific (high ascii) characters, the data import fails. This is strange because the relative path (data/quiz.xml) doesn't change. For example, my Czech install path contains the partial path: VyÅ¡etÅ™it BobÃÄka. If I just use normal English characters for this, I don't have a problem. The swf is an embedded sprite in a Director game, but I don't think this is relevant.
I looked into using fl.mapPlayerURL to format the path as UTF-8 but it doesn't look like this is the solution. Another thing I thought of would be embed the xml data inside Flash and copy it to a temp folder when needed. I'm using AS2.

I created a 5 second animation ion Adobe After Effects CS5 - exported to a swf file which is 50mb.I have this inserted on a dreamvweaver cs5 html page. Running locally it is fine, but slow over the internet.Should a 5 sec swf file be this big? - Anything i can do to speed this up on a webpage? - I have asked this on dreamwaever also, as I am using Dreamveaver CS5.

Now that you've got a general idea of what I'm working with, I'll move onto what I want to do with it. Let's say when the 1st frame (which has the XMLConnector on it) loads, we want to calculate the sum of all the values from the XML categories. It seems like an easy concept, but I can't figure out how to traverse through the array of objects without user intervention.
Basically what I am trying to accomplish is to make a rotating menu comprised of circles that are spinning at a slow constant speed, and when the mouse goes over a circle(button) the menu stops rotating.

View 1 RepliesI have developped a actionScript interface which connects a mySQL database to get data trough an XMLConncetor and fill a datagrid on the stage. When I test the swf locally with the SWFplayer it works perfectly. To make long story short, the xmlConnector connects the database and fill the datagrid. You can modify the data by clicking on buttons because they are bounded to xmlconnector and this one update the database and the refresh function opf the datagrid works.
The problem comes when I upload the swf on a web server and I try to connect the database. The first connection is okay but when I click on buttons, the request is sended to the database but the datagrid is not updated, even if I set an intervall or I code a function wich refresh the data...However, in IE, if you erase the cache and reload the page, modifications are there...
I want to use the XMLConnector component to read and update XMLdocuments, binding it to a DataGrid.
As long as I only receive data there is no problem. As soon as I want to work with send/receive nothing works anymore. Unfortunately all tutorials I can find only show how to receive data.
I'm developing a little site for a friend. Though the filesize is v. small and it seems to load quickly, there is a delay playing. There are many objects duplicated in AS so undoubtedly this is the problem, but is there any way of initializing them so that the delay is slower? I'm using flash cs3.

I am trying to run some code after the XMLConnector triggerfunction is completely done loading all of the xml data into theflash file and the bindings are updated. Is there an event or somekind of way to pause and run the code after all the radiobuttonsand checkboxes are updated with the xml boolean values?
View 1 RepliesI have created a flash application that runs crisp and smooth normally. However, when I set it to fullscreen using

Then it runs slow as heck. My cpu usage shoots up to the 90%'s on all four cores. Strange thing is, however, that if I manually resize the projector chrome to take up the full screen size it runs smooth and crisp. It's not playing any videos or sounds, and there are minimal images. The swf file itself is 7 megs, and that's almost entirely because I have to embed the chinese alphabet. Could it be from running dual monitors? It still only "fullscreens" to one monitor's size, so I don't think its's twice the size without me noticing... I'm really not sure what's causing it, but it gets super slow...

.fla is only 448kB, but the swf is 7megs.
Again, it runs fine when not in fullscreen, no matter how large I make the window, but if you play the swf file in flash player (i.e. not in browser) it will run slow until you press esc and exit fullscreen mode.
I have bought a chat package, and over 9 months i am running into the problem hat it is gooing slow with more users online. So i decided to install the "flash debug player 10" and check what exacly is happening. Within 2 minutes the flashlog.txt (error log of debug player) was 195KB I will now paste the error messages that are dumped into flashlog.txt tha occur the most and i think it seems as if the error message comes from a loop, because there are so many of these warnings:

I already made a part of it in MXML and a bit of action script but I encountered a few problems that are over my newbie limits. So the Flex Builder 2 makes a SFW file, in the main folder of the "project". I want to make that SWF file my main executable file. I have a folder with some pics, and another folder with Action Script Files. The code lvl that I know atm is ABSOLUTE BEGINER... I'm making a game with Flash CS5.5 and exporting it to a APK file (AIR for Android).The trouble is that the APK file is really just a ZIP file, so you can extract the content and inside there is my game as a regular SWF file. Anyone can upload this to any website and play the game there.
I don't want the SWF file to work unless opened like it should, inside the APK file through Android.Is there any way to know through ActionScript 3 code if the SWF file has been extracted from the APK file and has been opened as a normal SWF file?
I want to program a Flash file in ActionScript 3 so that the user of the SWF file can make changes to the program and these changes will be automatically applied to the original FLA file without any human intervention. A new SWF file will be activated containing the changes and this is all done without human intervention. View 1 RepliesI am trying to combine 2 swf files into a "master swf." One of the swf files is a timeline animation of graphics and text, not much coding. The other is all interactive coding, written on a seperate .as file with a complex Class structure.My first attempts to combine the swf files by simply adding from the Library to the stage at particular frames was a failure and I got all sorts of error codes and broken animations. Would it make any difference to add the swf files dynamically? I guess my question is how to make a master file that conforms with my .as file and will handle the animated section. On a related note, I need code that reads for the last frame of "SWF1" and triggers the "MAIN" timeline to go to the next frame (where the "interactive" swf is waiting to do it's stuff). Oh yeah and at some point, I'll need to prepare a preloader for the whole deal.
View 3 RepliesI have a Flash and swf file right now. I want to be able to play that file in another Flash file I'm making, the main Flash document. However, Flash CS4 cannot import other swf files.... for some unknown reason, and play it like a movie clip. I want it to play like a movie clip, which apparently can only be accomplished by using a flv file. Shouldn't I be able to make my swf or flash file into a flv file? I mean, Flash can read flv files, so why can't I export or convert to a flv file? I'm looking for free converters, but I have the Media Encoder that comes with Flash CS4. I just can't import swf or flash files! It can only make those files, it can't bring them into Media Encoder.
