View 4 RepliesI have two MovieClips onscreen, and I want to apply the same mask to both. I set the the masks using
mc1.mask = mymask;
mc2.mask = mymask;
Only mc2 receives the mask. How can I set the same mask for two different MovieClips without having to resort to putting them both in a single MovieClip?

there are loads of tutorials for maginfying glasses that use draggable movie clips and masks.
do you think it would be possible to have a blur filter effect on a mask. basically i will have a jpg as a background, a mask that follows the cursor, and where ever the cursor goes the jpg will be fuzzy under the mask.
How do I apply a layer mask to every layer in my movie? After I highlight all of the layers and put them in the layer mask, the layers that are in folders will not go in the layer mask.

I want to apply a gradient mask to a movieclip that contains a flv video. I'm aware that i would need to cache the movieclip as a bitmap in order to apply a mask using actionscript, but would that work even if the movieclip itself contains an flv video?
View 1 Repliesim going crazy with the simple matherfather task. i want to make a mask and applay it to a picture but i need to do it in actionsript. so what i do is create all necessery objs. at stage, acces them in class. set movie's clip mask and it's working but not the way i want. i want to have empty hole inside of mask which is a movie clip. that is not possible until i make a empty hole connected to the edge of mask with empty space. only then its showin the empty hole (and the connecting empty space aswell and) [URL]

View 5 RepliesI'm having a bit of a problem with a basic game I'm making where I want to have a number of animals which bounce around the stage.. I can't seem to get the code to apply to more than one of my movieclips using a loop.. if I try to apply vx and vy to the individual movieclips then nothing happens.. for now I have the ten movieclips on the stage but only one whichbounces around.. I have managed to get all of them to move but they each stay in their own area of the stage, but I'd like each to bounce around the stage and not interfere which the others movement.

how, to apply a property of a var to multiple vars at once. I'm making a point-n-click game where i want to apply the buttonMode property to multiple variables (of MovieClips).
I don't know if this is even possible or how simple or advanced this is, but it would be damn handy.
I have searched on Google and this site for a possible answer, with different search terms/keywords, but can't find anything close. I also tried different things with an asterisk such as *.buttonMode = true and movieClip.*.buttonMode = true but no success.

I'm trying to apply a ChangeDepths() to a bunch movieclips that I've nested inside a main movieclip which I'm using as a mask. The ChangeDepths() function worked fine when the clips were not nested, but after I placed them in a new movieclip, I get this error:

I am using CS3, AS2.I have a background image that I am allowing the user to select multiple layers over the top of (layer 1: new pattern, Layer 2: design) and the movieclips have the Blend: Overlay applied to them. My problem is when they select a second option (or a second overlay is applied to the background) the overlay shows the layer belows pattern in the new layer.My question is, is there a way to have the the two movieclips ignore each other and only apply the Blend:Overlay to the background movieclip?

Ofcourse applying the above directly, will only apply the mask to shadow2. Is there a way to get around this, to have the mask for both movieclips, without duplicating the mask movieclip??

Now returning to give it another go.Basically I want to find out how to check if a movieclip is visible under a mask.I've got a row of thumbs in a movieclip under a mask. Some are out with the the masked area so I've got some script to make the movieclip scroll the other thumbs into view of the masked area. Is there any code I can apply to the thumbs to check if they are in or not in view of the masked area?
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to build a simple mask with 2 children mcs. The masking is almost working, but the two children only mask where they don't overlap. I've tried using a mask layer and using code, and it's the same effect either way.

I tried some createEmptyMovieClip, attachMovie & setMask combo's but it doesnt seem to work.

I have a startDrag function set up on a loader and mask that when the mouse is down on the loader it drags, when not it doesn't. There is also 2 buttons that control whether mask1 or mask2 is used. What i would like however is when the mouse is down - the area of the loader outside of the mask is visible but only by about 10/20% alpha, that way the user can see where all the image is while dragging. what i am doing is to make something along the lines of the "scriptable mask" tutorial Inigo was kind enough to put up.My idea is to have a large mask behind the whole of my flash site, this masks a colour image with a black & white one (nothing tricky). The image I am using is actually 5 separate images combined, and each is a pic of certain parts of the site.I also have a very basic set of buttons along the bottom... each corresponding to each section.
All I want is to set it up so that when I mouse over the buttons, the _x of the mask moves to correspond with the correct image... really very basic... or so I thought .If anything it should be easier to do than what is in Inigo's tut (where he uses the _x of the mouse to move the mask)... i just cant seem to get it to work with a nice easing effect (its easy to get the mask to simply snap to each coordinate, but I need it to smoothly move).
maybe point me towards a better way to mask. png file is way too big. I have been using the mask layer option to create my own mask around a jpg image by drawing around it on the mask layer. There has to be a fetter and faster way to do this. Is it possible to maybe have a specific color range have an alpha value of 0. Similar to green screening whereas If I put the item I want to clip on a green background flash will auto take out the green for me. and by auto I mean action script maybe. I think this can be done but im not finding it.
how are these guys clipping these images [URL] they have the movie clips set up where the black background on the 3 layers of shoes is getting masked out. When I go into the shoe movie clips I see there is a black background but it just disappears when I go back to main timeline.
