ActionScript 2.0 :: Control Menu With Cursor Keys?
Mar 22, 2010
I have created a simple menu with 4 buttons[code]...
What I need to do is control this menu with the cursor keys. For example, right key selects the button on the right, down key selects button below... etc. Once selected, the enter key will invoke that button.
I'm trying to create a fairly simple interface where the user can theoretically move up and down four vertical menu buttons with the cursor keys, selecting the option they prefer with the enter key. Obviously this requires focusing on a different button every time they move up or down, but I'm damned if I can figure out how to do this
I want a movieclip with a size of 640x2000 pixel. But only 640x480 pixel should be seen on the screen. I want to scroll up or down with the cursor keys through the movieclip ...
in AS2 how would i use the down arrow key to make the timeline play? at the moment i have this and i presume i need to put something after that to make it play. [code]but i presume this is totaly wrong because the "stop();" doesnt stop the clip when the "if (Key.isDown(40))" bit is after it.
I have the script so that you can controle a car with the arrow keys but for one of the misions on my gta2 style game i would like an enemy car to follow you. The car has to stay facing the right way acording to the way the street though, this is the only bit i cant think of i also need boundries.
i'm making a small "add news" movie for a site in actionscript. When I insert an image in my textField, I can only move the cursor with my keys and not with my mouse anymore. I put the image always in front. I also have to click one time in my textfield, otherwise my text appears under my image. When I click it aligns to the right.
I followed the tutorial and built a carousel and it works great. I linked up some xml and I've got pretty much just what I want. I understand the math _ sort of _ I never paid much attention in math class so the whole 3d thing is a train wreck for me.
What I really want to do is setup arrow keys to control which item is in front. I've tried hit tests to check the next/prev item and then stop there.. but the timing is sort of per project - meaning I need to set the rate or amount of items each time I want to change anything. I even tried setting intervals to set the speed to 0 after # milliseconds. Nothing works quite right.
Because here in my game the main character is controlled through mouse and i want it to be controlled in left and right arrow keys. Here are the codes:
I have a simple flash project with a TV and a remote control. right now there are arrow buttons on the remote control that i have setup so that when you click on the button it goes to another frame. now my client wants it also setup so that when they hit the arrow buttons (up, down, etc) that it goes to a certain frame.
I have a simple animation that I would like to control the speed of the movie using the right an left arrow buttons. Keep pressing right arrow to speed up, and keep pressing left button to slow down.
I have the follwoing code to control a Flash-based presentation but BACKSPACE and ENTER lkey are not working. I am puzzled. PD: All the rest of the keys works fine.
i need to fire separate method for individual menu item clicked ,so that individual item can handle separate method.and i need know what all the properties are available in menu item like type="radio".
I'm having trouble creating a simple menu that you navigate with keys, rather than just a bunch of buttons you navigate with the mouse. What I want is a nice, easy way to make menus, where you have 1 item selected, and you can navigate around to the others with the keyboard.You need to be able to move up, down, left and right. If you go too far over, it returns you to the other side. know this should be really simple, but I can't seem to be able to create a simple function that will work for this. I have tried a bunch of nonsense, but I figure there's probably an easy way that everyone uses. Unfortunatly, whenever you search "menu" in any flash tutorial site, it brings up a bunch of tutorials on button menus.
I am trying to create a retroish game and have a few features working but now need a menu system. Most older games use the arrows keys and enter for menu navigation. I was wondering if such a menu system has already been created as it is a simple feature that I am sure someone has made before.
I'm completely new to AS3/Flash programming, though I program in C/C++/C# in my job. These days I got a project idea which I think Flash would better fit than the other languages I mentioned above. I want to create an on-line automation application that can:
1. Control user mouse clicks, or eventually keyboard, pressing some keys;
2. Communicate/connect to the user's bluetooth device, establishing connections to the mobile devices attached to it - the web application in this case would act as a server.
Im making an interactive video menu system in flash cs5, Ive split each menu page into labeled sections along the timeline. I have the following code placed in a specific labeled section so it should jump to the "Directory Screen" when the 3 key is pressed:
But when it goes to the Directory Screen, if I press 3 again it shouldnt do anything but flash seems to remember the code and when I press 3 again on the "Directory Screen" it skips to the next labeled item for some reason.
Basically, I have a button and on click it displays a menu. I want to click that menu a second time and the menu closes. Currently, every time you click the button, the menu reopens. I pasted the Flex livedoc example below. If you click the button, the menu keeps reopening.Now, I rigged it up by setting a var to open and closed, so when clicking the button it does a check. However, if you click away from the screen, the HIDE event gets dispatched, and the menu closes. This messed up the open close var being set.
How could I make this Flex example below show the menu on button click, and then on a second button click, it closes the menu? Take into affect that if you click away from the menu, it closes it.Also, I played around with the MOUSE_DOWN_OUTSIDE event for the button and set the preventDefault, and the FlexMouseEvent event.cancelable is set to false.Changing to a PopUpMenuButton is not an option. I have to much skinning involved.Here is the Flex example:
<mx:Script> <![CDATA[ // Import the Menu control. import mx.controls.Menu;
Basically I want an MC to appear or disappear depending on the mouse proximity to it. Say for example I have a nav which only becomes visible as the mouse moves to the right hand side and then disappears as it moves away.
Previously I have used the old invisible button trick that triggers the MC as the mouse moves over it. Yes im well aware that is frowned upon and is not 100% effective but as of yet thats the only method I know.
Is there a method to set the caret position within a RichEditableText control? The control's contents can contain errors that the user must fix which are navigated though via Next/Previous buttons, and during the navigation I would like to set the caret cursor to the end of each error within the text.
I need to handle diagraphs and then convert them on the fly to the proper unicoderepresentation. For example when the user types in:SxMy app needs to replace it with:ow, I've been able to do the replacement no problem. The issue though is that once I've done the replacement, the cursor goes to the beginning of the textbox rather than the end.As I'm trying to update the user's text on the fly, this obvious doesn't work.
I have a class which inherit from ComboBox .i want to implement a function to control the position of the cursor.Any builtin function?

i have a class which hides mouse cursor if not moved for certain amount of time. also i can pass and array of objects to the class for which i dont want to hide a cursor if mouse if over that specific objects. it uses a hit test point to find if its over any of objects.
i tried to pass a context menu, but i am getting an error: Property hitTestPoint not found on flash.ui.ContextMenu and there is no default value.
Can I have a control of cursor position in the landing email program when I use mailto? I think it looks more professional when the cursor goes into Subject field rather than falling right behind my email address in To field. The following snippet that I tried didn't make any difference. [code]...
My Flex 3 application uses a custom cursor and has to show a customized context menu when the user performs a right click. The problem is the customized menu is shown only when the default arrow cursor is shown. When I change it to the custom cursor, the standard context menu appears instead of the customized one.
Is there a way to have both custom cursor and customized context menu in a flash application?
can you suggest me a tutorial for handling sidebar cursor movements according to the menu sliding? I need to update the position of the cursor, depending on the menu sliding position.
I'm trying to make a simple as3 menu using the drawing api, but i'm having a few problems. First of all I want the red box on roll over to start out from where the gray box is, but right now its starting out from the left of the stage. Second when I bring the mouse cursor off the stage the red box would just appear.
