ActionScript 2.0 :: Convert Button Release To KeyDown?
Aug 7, 2011I'm trying to make a simple virtual keyboard. So if I click the btnA, the A keydown will be inputted.

View 1 RepliesI could put a hidden button on my movie. I found this code over the internet but it seems not to work.
breadcrumbs_btn.onRelease = function() {
if (Key.isDown(99)) {
getURL("http://www.mysite.com/mypage.php", "_self");
}
};
99 is the keycode for letter c by the day
i'm trying to use if statements but can't get this thing to work i want to check if another button is visible on release of a button to determine what action to be taken.the 'gotoAndPlay("firstscene",1)' is just there as an outcome, will be changed later. anyway this is the code i've got on the button i'm pressing. blobyellow2 is an instance of a button blobyellow is it because it's an instance that it's not working?
[Code]...
edit: sorry forgot to put what's wrong with the code. it acts as though the statement is correct no matter if it is or isn't.
Underlined Text On (rollOver) Is there an action script to do on (rollover) underline text? It would be on a button that would also, on (release) gotoAndPlay a frame. I know you can have a movie with AS like this:
[Code]....
But when I add the on (release) to the movie it doesnt advance the timeline on (release). And when I change the file to a button instead of a movie clip it doesnt do the underline on (rollOver).
It controls a collection of 6 "slides". Each slide has a corresponding button, and it also slides every x seconds when the mouse is still. I'd like the buttons (b1 through b6) to change once they are pressed (to a similar image, just with a black dot in the center, which shows it is selected) and then return once another one is selected. I have a very minimal knowledge of actionscript
[Code]...
I want my button to go to a particular frame on release,show me the AS for this? I am using Flash MX for reference.
View 3 RepliesI want to disable my button on release and also want to change its appearance (may be like as "DOWN" status). I am using below code lines to disable it
on (release) {
mybutton.enabled = false;
}
But button goes back to "UP" status appearances.
I have a movie that consists of various audio files fading in and out of various scenes as the timeline progresses. The current mute button I've created only appears to stop the audio track currently playing when pressed. How do I silence the movie from the point of button release until the movie has played to the end? Just as an FYI, the audio files are loaded and managed manually on the timeline itself.
View 3 RepliesIm making a soundboard and I chose AS3 by accident.What I need the code to do is STOP the CURRENT sound from playing if another is pressed. the code that worked for AS1 and AS2 was onMouseDown [code] plays the sound once and messes the sound up after playing for only half a second or not at all.
View 5 RepliesIm creating a simple flash presentation and i have created four buttons, what i want to now do is make each button go to a differant frame on the timeline, im guessing this is go to and stop? But i cant figure it out [URL]
View 1 RepliesI have 4 buttons,(home, about, gallery, contacts). and each button have their own animations, when you rollout/over them. well, this is my problem, i want to stop animations when i release the button. pls help me with that. i was so confused about that.
View 4 RepliesI know you can use the following code to make a button access a URL on release:
[Code]...
Just wondering if there is any other code or actionscript you can put on a movie clip so that on release, it accomplished the same thing?
I will like to allow movie clip to appear on release of button for a certain period say 10 seconds, how to set interval for the movie clip ?
View 3 RepliesI will try to make this as sysinct As possible. I'm working in Flash CS4, AS 2 and I'm trying to make an online image gallery/portfolio but I'm having trouble making an image appear when I release the button. (I've uploaded the fla if you want to look). Basically, I have a movie clip that will contain all my thumbs and that enters the stage with this action script:
onClipEvent (load) {
_root.xnew = _root.mask._x + (-9-1)*100/2 ;
}
[Code].....
I made the first 3 squares into buttons: imgbtn1, imgbtn2, imgbtn3
I've tried loading the images into an empty movie clip a hundred different ways and I've also tryed writing action script for the button to just play at a certain frame to show a picture but I have not really gotten anywhere.
Essentially I would like for the thumbs to swoop in as they do and for the user to click a thumb and for that thumb to dynamically load a photo in the center of the stage.
I want to take a static text field, convert it into a button, and use it as a button. I need it static, because I changed orientation, and I do not know how to do that otherwise. The problem is, even though I converted it to a Button symbol, it does not work when I test the movie. It works fine with "Enable simple buttons", but when I test it, the button is not there, no change in mouse cursor, no reaction at all.So this is what I did:
Made text. // static, not selectable, Orientation: vertical left to right, / //rotated; Two filters: Drop Shadow and Glow;
Converted text field to Button - Symbol (scrollBT)
Editing the Button,I put the same content (the static text field) in all four frames: No luck, not working. without the Hit frame filled (which I think doesn't really make a difference): No luck, not working.Tried again, converting the static text field in the button into a Graphic Symbol: No luck, not working.Tried again, and put some differences in the frames for "ON" and "OVER" etc.: No luck, not working.Tried again, duplicating a similar, working button, edited it, and: No luck, not working.
To the button itself and the AS: The button will be a scroll-button for a text field, with different scroll speeds on rollover and press, but nothing else. The code for that I have (I think). It's something like (and please excuse my incorrect syntax here, but I'm typing from memory; still, I use the Script-Assistant and my syntax is apparently correct; it's also working with other buttons):
on {rollOver} {
function (scroll) {
textfieldtxt.scroll - = 1;}[code]....
I'm at the end of my wits. The only difference I can tell from other (working) buttons I did the same way, is that the scrollBt does not do anything except scrolling, while all of the others have frame actions (gotoAndplay etc.) associated with them.
I installed a Flash template that has some "Read More" buttons.I see the actionscript for a button is:
Header 1onClipEvent (load) { num = 1; this.title2.num = 4; // this line is the frame number of the symbol which the button links to this.title2.name1 = "More 04";}
After experimenting, I realize that it is the 3rd line which controls which page (ie/ frame number) the button links to.So in the above example, the button will link to frame 4 of the symbol.In another button that same line reads:this.title2.num = 5 and so clicking that button will link to frame 5 of the symbol.Now here in that above code shows which symbol to go to - it just seems to know where to go (it actually goes to a symbol called 'Content Movie Y6').So my question is, how does it know which symbol to link to?I'd like to know in case I want to change the link in the future.
More info:All of these "Read More" buttons have a roll-over effect which is a movie clip symbol called 'button_more'.The actionscript code for the button_more symbol is:
Header 1on (rollOver) { if (_root.link<>6) [code].....
I still can't see anywhere where it configures which symbol to play upon release of the button.
I have an AS 2 movie that has tons of navigation. When the movie first loads, the main screen plays an animation and stops. That animation is my main menu. If a user clicks the home button (which is an MC instance) it takes him to the Home Movie and plays. From here, I need to be able to fade out that movie and fade in a new movie when the user clicks on the next button. So, I want to create a variable on(release) of the button thats within the Home MC that will play the fade out and then be directed to the next animation.I imagine something like this.
buttonA == false;
on(release){
buttonA = true;
[code].......
So I was working normally, and accidentally hit the profiling button after that, I later decided to export my current.air.URL...Why would the export button disappear all the sudden? I cannot find it at all. It seems rather interesting not being able to export a .air and provide an installer.
View 1 RepliesI have a Movie Clip which has a button and animated image on 2 layers, there is also some action scipt to control how the layers work.The Movie clip sits in my main windows and what I need to do is make the movie clip action open a swf external file in the movie clip holder I have made, I have acomplished the orignal external file to load, but now need to add diffrent files to the Movie Clip buttons.here is the base code for loading the original external file\ Code \loadMovie("news.swf","movieholder");
View 4 RepliesCurrently, I'm developing a drag 'n' drop 'snap' game in flash. The meaning of this game is to drag ''crates'' from a boat and load the crates into a train.
What I got working in AS2:
- The crane arm follows the mouse cursor.
- It can drag and snap objects(crates)
But what still need to works is:
- When mouse button on object is released, the object (crate) is still floating in the air. When released mouse button, the object must fall down. (gravity)
I need to add score points and load dynamic text at the same time. This is my code.
on (release) {
//This is where I need to load dynamic text
//-----"response" is my dynamic text field; same as "total"-----
[Code]....
here is my script:
stop();
//setting up the list of frame names for the buttons
imagelist = ["horror","legs","chair"];[code]....
So my problem is that on the button release it doesn't go to the frame that I labelled .My button symbol is called b_next with instance name of next_b. So don't think thats the problem. Is it because I made an array that equals the instance name of my frames?
I am building a stand alone flash file which needs to detect whether the user has an internet connection on the release of a button.
View 3 Replieson release of the button, how do I navigate to a completely different movie clip? so I know about _parent and _root in terms of moving between layers but say I wanted the press of a button to gotoAndStop(2); inside a different movie clip that is not parented or on the _root?

I am a bit confused on doing a photo galery.... I want to set one up. I want to alpha out one photo and alpha in another on a button release. I know how to go forward on a button release for timeline sake but I don't know how to go to the previous picture when the previous button is clicked. Is there a way to play the timeline backwards or is the xml way the only way. If the xml is the only way than how to set my own photos into the code or link my photos to the code.

I have a button that is called to the stage using AS. When the user releases that button, a global variable is populated and the pageShell movie clip is removed and re-attached using the new variable info. When I run the movie, I get the following in the output panel: **Error** Mouse events are permitted only for button instances on (release:<name>){ I'm not sure why this is happening because the symbol being used (<idname>) is a button.

I have three buttons on screen that navigate to different places on the timeline. I have set them all up as buttons using a generic button in the library and then given them all different instance names. I selected the button and changed the text colour for each state in the timeline (up, over, down) to keep it simple. The buttons are all, as far as I can analyse, identical in all but instance name.
When I test the movie, the first button changes text colour on 'over' and, when I click (i.e. down state) the colour changes again as designed. The navigation action doesn't occur until I release the mouse button, giving the feel of having 'clicked' the button.
With the other two buttons, which have been set up as far as I can tell in exactly the same way, when the down state occurs, I see a momentary flash of the text colour change and it performs the nav straight away. I really want it to perform the same way as the first button but cannot for the life of me see why they're behaving differently.
