ActionScript 2.0 :: Crawler Text Effect With ComboBox Support

I managed to do this on another project with a friend but it was in AS3. Now i'm trying to repeat the same trick in AS2 and..... it seems to be harder than expected. Basicaly, it's a dynamic text box with instance name crawl_txt in witch I managed to insert a horizontal scrolling effect. (layer actions, and layer crawl)
Now the really tricky part:
I need: 1 to import them through a xml file ass a continuous RSS feed. It's a news crawler in essence. I edit manualy the xml file with the latest news. But I also need a combobox to be added, from the latest info I got, in witch it's important to have 2 categories: expired news and latest news. Latest news it's logically are loaded by default. But the second category it's important to contain all the news I had and are no longer active.

I've heard that Adobe Flash CS5 now comes with native support for Arabic (and other right-to-left languages).I haven't confirmed this, but I have two questions:
1) Does Flash CS5 actually natively support Arabic without needing to use the text layout framework URL...
2) If so, does this native support extend to the ComboBox component?
I'm working on a form in Flash that uses the ComboBox component, and I need to verify whether this support is as holistic as I hope it is.

The example posted is somewhat limited and there's no meta tags based on the link, only the meta tags presented on loading the SWF. Clearly there has to be a post about getting custom meta tags based on each link (for massive applications like adobe video player) but I don't see any posts about it.
Now what I've done is used javascript to check the swfaddress information and return custom meta tags depending on the variables in the url. IE "index.php#/link1" returns

Obviously this is probaly not going to work but I thought I'd give it a shot anyways.
Then I started thinking, what if I redirect the page if it's the first time someone is loading it? So if someone is loading the page I can grab "link1", redirect back to index.php and post info to dynamically generate the meta tags in the php file.

I really like the text effect Pom used in the footer contest, and would like to use the same grid-type method of creating mc letters but with a different effect. i understand how to change the parameters and shapes of the letters, but can't seem to figure out which piece of code is purely for the explosion effect. basically, i want the letters but with the 'Repel' effect from[URL] here is Pom's AS:

i don't understand flash plugin only support .swf file,not support .flv file? always require load a swf file for play flv file, for exampes:

I am using text layout framework in my application. I am using textflow as editor to my application. As text layout framework supports multiple languages. I a m able to see the text in multiple languages. Now my doubt is, can I type in different languages? For example: As in word if we choose the font as Hindi then whatever we type it comes in Hindi.

When applying text formatting to a comboBox, the text formatting appears perfectly on the dropdown menu items but the textField text disappears.Removing the text formatting from the textField makes the textField text reappear but of course there is no text formatting.
Is there a trick to this.

I'm learning to build quizzes and tests dynamically in Flash CS3 using a combobox component to navigate between questions. Right now I have the combobox populate with the question number but I need it to say "Question" before the number (i.e., Question 1, Question 2, Question 3,...). Here is the code I have so far:

I have a comboBox populated through XML. I want to transfer the selected item to a dynamic text field. After a few days and lots of hours... I cant figure this out.
I have added my comboBox to the stage via the component wondow. Would that be my issue? Would it be best to set it through AS3?

I'm using Flash CS3 and want to create a custom ComboBox. I've followed the steps outlined in "Editing component skins in a new document" (http:/[url]...), but every time I get to the step where I drag the ComboBox Assets folder from the HaloTheme.fla library into my library, if I test movie at that point my combobox has become an unclickable white rectangle with no label, button or anything.

I'm trying to set a specific list item in a mx combobox to have a custom item renderer, the problem is that I cannot do this via mxml, it needs to be done via actionscript at a later stage, eg: combobox gets created, combobox gets populated, user does other tasks, combobox needs to set one or more items in the combobox to have icons (via item renderer)..
I can do this via the onChange event, but it only applies the icon when the combobox is opened and there is a slight delay so you can see the icon being added.

if it's possible to make text wrap in the combobox component, and if so, how? I've searched this and other forums/sites but have had no luck with an answer either way. I'd like to combobox to stay a set width and therefore wrap text lines that are longer than the width. Currently it's just cutting off the text.

Any way to set the text that initially appears within a ComboBox without actually making it a selection? I have a ComboBox that initially starts out with one selection labeled "Select One". When you click on the ComboBox, the first selection in the list is "Select One". Is there a way to tell the ComboBox to just say "Select One" when it first hits the stage without making it editable?

I've got some sentences I need to put in a ComboBox as selections. They are much too long for the width of the box on the page. Is there a way to wrap the text in the ComboBox? I'm wondering if I need to put the text into a jpg or something and use that as the label.

I'm about as new to flash MX, how to write an action script that will allow me to change text with a button. However, I would like to be able to do it by a combo box. I have a custom class the extends ComboBox. In it I set the textField style to embed fonts and use a custom textFormat. If I put this into a flash file all by itself, it works fine. But as soon as I put it into my actual project, it no longer works. I can't figure out why!
I can't really upload the source, so I was just curious if anyone had ideas as to what I might try to get it to work.
I have created a font symbol in the library for the font I want and exported it. And as I said, it works fine in an empty flash file, just not in my actual project.

I've been playing with s:ComboBox and generally like them a lot. One detail is driving me nuts though - most likely due to my lack of knowledge in the subject - is that if I try to add a new item to my dataprovider in a changeHandler (registered to the change event) the text for the ComboBox textInput disappears - although the item addition works perfectly. Interestingly enough the same operation works fine if it gets called by clicking on a button, i.e. post the change event has been processed, and the text does not disappear.[code]if you take out the change handler you will see that adding a new item and then clicking on the button keeps the new element in the textInput while adding the item to the data provider, which does not happen if you just enter a new item and press enter.

I've created a ComboBox skin by extending mx.skins.ProgrammaticSkin. It's working fine, except I can't figure out how to limit the width of the text. Is there a way to control this within the skin?
See the attached image for an example of the text going too far. I would like it to stop before the separator line to the left of the down arrow.

I am using the combocheck example from the following site: [URL]
It's a very useful component and works very well.
Now, I need to set the text property of this combo box upon application startup with certain values (which are defined dynamically according to some criteria). The problem is that although I have no problem setting the text property of the combo box at other times of the application run, setting the property at startup seems to have no effect unfortunately.
For example, I want to set the text property of the combobox to "Bob" (which is one of the items in the dataprovider for the combobox) and the "set text" method is called on the combo box. Performing a step-through shows that the "set text" method is receiving the correct value item but not setting the _text property.
I have tried not doing anything until "ApplicationComplete" but no joy there either.
Here is the code (a combination of the code from the URL above and some other changes to it). However, as I've stated above, the codes does work. The problem is that it doesn't work at the application startup. Whenever an event is fired and setComboText is called as a result, the text of the combo box is set correctly.
